TaiSugar Hotel gets a mixed review on the net, from very good to poor. While we were a tad worried, we felt that it's about expectation. It turned out better than my expectation. The rooms are spacious, clean and have all the necessary amenities of a three-star hotel. Water pressure is strong and comes with Japanese bidet toilet seat. And of course the best part is that Ximending is just across the street, so location wise is fantastic. There's also an entrance to Ximending MRT station just across a small road, but there's only staircase for this entrance. Breakfast's spread is decent, but as many pointed out, it's similar over the days.

Unbeatable location, very close to Ximending shopping district and Taipei Main Station. Very big room. Super strong water pressure in the shower. Very fast lifts. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Decent breakfast, but suggest going earlier or food/choices become scarce.

Poor soundproofing - you will hear everything from your neighbours taking a shower to laughing to sliding doors. The room was very cold and we could not adjust the temperature due to central AC; you can only turn the AC off if you're too cold. Things took 2 days to dry, e.g. towels after a shower. They encourage you to protect the environment by using your towels multiple times, so be prepared to use damp towels the second day (staff were happy to provide additional towels). We were told well in advance that the room didn't have windows, so it did not come as a surprise that the room smelled damp or stale the whole time

- variety of breakfast selections - clean, big room - japanese toilet with heated seat, perfect for winter - comfy beds - very central location, ximending is just across the street - near MRT station - friendly reception, try to accommodate you as mich as they could (they even offer the send a postcard for us bc we can’t find mailboxes)

- no wardrobe in the room, there is place to hang clothes, but no wardrobe - we stay in 403, the makeup mirror is not working well (it’s impossible to keep it stays still, it’s always rotating) - for me personal preference, the water is not hot enough to take a hot bath - there is no heating system in the room, it gets really cold at night even though we already turn off the AC

The hotel is in a prime location, just a short walk from Ximen Station and close to many shops, eateries, and attractions. It made getting around Taipei incredibly convenient. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, making my stay relaxing and enjoyable. The hotel staff were courteous and helpful.

Encountered a slight communication issue. I had pre-ordered halal breakfast, but unfortunately, this request was not communicated to the kitchen, so it wasn’t available as expected. This was the only downside to an otherwise pleasant stay.

I was not sure what to expect. We took a taxi to the property as we arrived Taipei at 4 in the morning and did not want to wrestle with our luggage. Less than 30 minutes from the International airport. We dropped our luggage (staff was super friendly as they held our luggage until 3:00 check in - I use insulin and they even put it in refrigeration for me) and off exploring of the city we went. Once you learn the subway system (a few bumps for me in the beginning but only my fault) but the hotel is a marvelous location with stops within a short walk, 2 blocks at the most. The hotel staff was great, rooms were nice, everything was super nice and secure. Breakfast was good. In all I was very pleased and the hotel exceeded my expectations. We did not do any nature stuff out of the city so cannot speak to that. We will return if in Taipei in the future.

Everything met my expectations

LOCATION!!! literally metro station in front, steps away from Ximending night market, bus stop in front, walking distance from shops and restaurants. Luggage storage for early arrivals, comfy bed, clean bathroom, friendly staff.

No public washroom in the lobby. Breakfast could be better, limited options.

The location was perfect for getting around Taipei by foot, bus, or MRT and also the rest of Taiwan, including the airport, by train. It is also right next to Ximending, so you are right in the centre of historic Taipei, shopping and street food. The hotel room was spacious and breakfast was excellent. The rate was reasonable for Taipei. Each floor had an ice and drinking water machine to fill our water bottles.

Only one side of the bed had a bedside table with charging points, whose power supply is strangely turned off when you turn off the main overhead lights in the room.

The room was large and basic with all the necessities. The shower curtain was dirty and upon our request it was changed immediately. The front desk staff was very friendly and most helpful and despite language barriers sometimes, we were able to communicate. We were able to get a room, for a fee, for the last day as our plane was leaving at midnight. It was very much appreciated.

The breakfast was Chinese dishes with a few Western options. The breakfast room and the hallways were very cold. The bed and pillow were a little hard for my liking.

The location is good, room is considered big, room aircon is cold.

Breakfast variety not much and most food items are similar everyday. The bedroom pillows are quite flat. The room is quite dim, should install more lights in the room. There should be more charging point at the bed area, instead of just the bedside table.

The hotel is located in one of the busiest parts of Taipei City - Ximen. There are so many restaurants and shops nearby. The MRT station is just within 5 minutes walk with an underground walkway entrance just 1 minute from the hotel. We could also find some local small restaurants and fruit stalls nearby.

The breakfast choice is much less than the other hotels we stayed in this trip but overall still be sufficient if guests love local food.
