Lovely staff, faultless location, beautiful building, great breakfast. We've spent months in Thailand and in Chiang Mai. This hotel is a good choice.

We felt that the rooms were cramped and badly designed. There was nowhere to put our bags other than on the floor and there wasn't much space for hanging things. Wall plugs were behind tables and hard to access. The room floor didn't look very clean, just the texture probably. Minor gripes, we really liked the hotel, still a solid 8. Next time we'd look for a room with more space. We had twin beds, maybe the rooms would be less cramped with just a double.

The location is perfect! Very walkable with everything you need close by. The property itself is quiet and tranquil. I loved spending time in the Library - great spot for working remotely or just reading and relaxing. The rooms are on the smaller side, but very comfortable. Great beds!

There was a lot of noise transfer from the hallways. There were guests who checked into the room above me with a small child - it sounded like a herd of elephants had checked in above me, because all I heard was stomping back and forth. Thankfully they were only there for a short time! The breakfast wasn’t awful, but a small buffet would have been better versus having limited choices to order from off a set menu. In the rooms, it would be great to have more space for storing toiletries in the bathroom - like shelves under the sink. The TV’s also need an upgrade with Netflix (not that much time was spent in the room, but it’s nice to watch a bit of TV before bed).

I just love the atmosphere & design of this boutique hotel, just what one needs for a peaceful & stylish vacation in Chiang Mai. The location is great, in a quiet lane within the old city- a few minutes walk to the Chedi Luang temple. Rooms are standard size, 22-25 sqm but well designed for a comfortable stay. The hotel asks guests to take their shoes off and leave them in wooden lockers before entering the area to all rooms. ( I found this a lovely, cultural side of the hotel apart from the style of decoration. ) They have a nice and serene library with a large balcony on the 2nd floor with good choices of interesting books, Buddha’s teaching as well. Wifi was ok. The service is good, staffs were friendly and efficient. Breakfast was delicious, one chooses from the set menu they offered in Thai, Chinese and western style. I got to sip my tea at their terrace with the birds’ chirping & the sound of the fountain. A lovely stay.

Since the boutique only has two floors, there’s no elevator. I stayed up on the second floor, so I had to get help for luggage. The staffs were very helpful though.

Makka Hotel is located in a quiet alley, conveniently in the center of Chiang Mai Old Town. If you look on Google Maps streetview, the alley looks a bit questionable, but actually once you are there it is rather nice, and a good cut through between two busier streets. You will even find a couple of good restaurants immediately on the alley (one right across from the hotel), a barber shop, a couple other hotels, etc., so while it is quiet, it is far from lifeless. The hotel itself has the likeness and serenity of a pristine temple. You must even remove your shoes to enter, and then contend with the slick and flawlessly polished floors. The staff could not be more helpful or gracious. They helped us with our bags (in more ways than one, since our luggage was initially delayed by the airline), and also booked a private driver to take us to the mountain temples. The breakfast area and surrounding grounds are beautiful. They take your breakfast order each morning and bring it to you accompanied by fresh fruit, bread, and drinks. There is also a "secret" breakfast menu with smaller items, like yogurt, if you don't want something too heavy. There is a library, which is stunning, though I must admit I did not use it other than to marvel at its beauty. The room itself was large and very clean. I can be quite fussy about the latter, but it met my standards. The bed was comfortable. The fridge is stocked with complimentary drinks. The A/C works very well. I was deliberate about booking a room with no balcony, to avoid bugs getting in, though I will say Chiang Mai was one of the least "buggy" places we visited on this trip to Southeast Asia.

I liked everything. I will note, for those who want one, that there is no pool or spa or on-site restaurant, aside from the dining area for breakfast. Communication prior to the trip (via email) was a little spotty, with some emails going unanswered, I assume due to a language barrier. That said, the service and all else was flawless once we were there.

Everything from check-in to check-out was perfect The staff was great - all the girls at the reception were super attentive and helpful

If the property had some cycles to borrow it would have been ideal

Unique building design. Make you feel like home. Good breakfast and friendly and helpful stuff. Great location and easy to access to all the markets and attractions. Thank you for the great escape/ holiday.

Sound proof might be a little on the downside if you stay at ground floor. But it is just a small issue. If the building comes with swimming pool will be a plus point.

The location is very convenient and the open-air reception is very cool.

The mattress was hard as a rock. The bathroom was tiny and the bathroom doors had open slats, so there was little privacy. They want you to take off your shoes in the hallway and use flip flops to walk down the hall to your room. Kind of a pain, but I suppose nice cultural custom. And in a country with outstanding customer service as a norm, the staff here is nice but not overly so.

Location and it was peaceful and beautiful. Breakfast was amazing and serving staff was wonderful. Lots of peaceful spaces to relax and read. Front desk is very helpful and always smiling. Cleaning staff does a complete room cleaning every day!

Too many mosquitoes near the water fountains. Hopefully they can do something to curb them like essential oils and running some fans.

The property has a very nice style - local architecture but with a very clear philosophy, I liked the writings on the walls in the corridor and in the rooms. Initially, I wasn’t aware that they also have a library - it’s an absolutely beautiful space and very peaceful and magic in the late afternoon and evening, don’t miss it! There is a very friendly cat often hanging out in and around the library if you have a sweet spot for pets like I do. Also, the location is superb for exploring Chiang Mai city center and its attractions.

There is currently some construction going on on the property plot next door which was a bit noisy at times but beyond Makka hotel’s control.

We absolutely loved our stay at Makka hotel. The location is amazing for temples and the market and even though you are central it is super quiet and peaceful. The staff are incredibly helpful and organised us transfers to the airport and a Tuk Tuk to the start of the Monk's Walk. I had dietary requirements and Bow was so helpful at breakfast organising vegetarian meals for me without eggs or milk! We loved the quotes around the hotel and our room was exceptionally clean.

Nothing for us. :) Although there wasn't a lot of storage in the room and there is no restaurant for lunch or dinner so if you arrive on a late flight you will need to head out of the hotel but because of it's excellent location there are plenty of dining choices.
