We first sat on the beach at Moonhut in 2005 and swore one day we would stay here. We finally did it for 5 nights over new year and it did not disappoint. We were in AC3 which is beachfront and a slightly larger room with good sized porch. Plenty of storage, a fridge to keep our beers in and a hot shower. All good. What could be more relaxing in life than getting up, tea on your porch, a swim and after a bit of sightseeing, return to “our” beach and relax with a book on beanbags while the waiter from the attached beach bar serves drinks to your beach table. We were so relaxed we didn’t want to leave. Later, when we had already left for Koh Phangan I realised I’d left something behind. Jane was very kind and has said she will keep it for me until I’m able to return for it. Absolutely brilliant customer service! We will 100% return to Moonhut Bungalows.

It’s hard to find a down side but for the money for the room, I would have liked the bed sheets and towels changed more often but that’s quite a minor gripe about an otherwise fantastic place.

This property was our favourite in all of Thailand. We stayed in AC1 (directly on the beach) and we literally did not want to leave. So stunning, if you are even thinking about it, do it. It is a luxury view and experience for a fraction of the price.

Only thing was ants in our room that is expected on any beach property. Maybe some insect sprays etc provided would be good

We had hut #3. It had a perfect view of the ocean with a few palm trees in front. We enjoyed early morning coffee just sitting on the porch and enjoying the view. The staff was super friendly and worked very hard. They even raked the sand in front of the bungalows every morning. And the open air restaurant/bar connected to this resort was great to eat at and hang out in. I recommend the Burma salad. Yum! Moonhut Bungalows was really our highlight on our trip to Koh Samui.

I ate several times at the restaurant and would say the Thai food is good, but the Western styled breakfast was rather tasteless and not great in my opinion. The room was cleaned daily and the staff were amazing. Very friendly and helpful, and honest when l overpaid for something.

The fan only room was quite comfortable, with a really firm bed, which suited me. Having no glass on the windows (only bars and flywire) loud neighbours were an issue, and in a storm wouldn't be pleasant with no way to keep the wind out. If you're a light sleeper you may need earplugs.

Perfect spot if you're looking for a laid back, not pretentious, old school Thai beach hut to stay (still airconditioned though). A few comfortable huts beneath palm trees, directly at the beach. Walk bare foot from your bed tot the beach. Super friendly staff. Beach bar that feels like your student house living room. Short walk on the beach to the china town street of Maenam Beach. Not much else to do.

It felt a bit old and rustic. But this is perfect if you want to stay away from the high end pretentious resorts.

Excellent place and very good value. Jane, who manages Moonhut, is really kind and helpful. She arranged a taxi pick up from the ferry for me and booked my ferry to Koh Tao. All the staff are lovely. The hut was very comfortable with a good fan, comfy bed, soft pillows and a good bathroom. There is an amazing masseuse there called Nicha. Do have a massage with her she is a true healer. The beach is gorgeous and less than 2 mins to walk to it. Walk 10 mins up to the main road and turn left for really good cheap authentic Thai food and drinks. 7/11 is over the road. Honestly I cannot fault Moonhut except for lack of fridge. Everything else was just perfect. I stayed an extra day it was so lovely abd I would definitely go back.

loved the location and food and cocktails where amazing. The staff bent over backwards for us. We had food and drinks personally delivered to our room whilst our children slept which was great.

upon arrival we were told that the main lights inside AC3 had gone off the night before and that they would get fixed but this did not occur during our stay. The only inside lighting we had was the 2 bedside lamps. So had to shower before the sun went down as there was no bathroom lighting at night and this was a downfall as we had children toilet training.

Moonhut Is located midway along 3 miles of relatively quiet beach at Maenam. It is removed from the noise of traffic on the main road, 600 yards away. The beach is clean and there are lovely views across to the island of Koh Phangan. The bungalows are raised up a few steps above the sand and spaced out above high tide level around Angela's restaurant. This operates separately for payment purposes and is open for food and drinks from breakfast till 9pm. There are other bars and restaurants within 10 minutes walk in either direction along the beach. The bungalows are accurately described on Booking.com. We stayed for 11 nights (March 2024). There was plenty of space for a large bed, sofa, dressing table, fridge, electronic safe and a large wardrobe with drawers and hanging rail. Air con worked well and there was a wet room with an electric shower. Electric points were situated in 3 positions. There are rooms with lower spec than this at a cheaper tariff. Rooms were cleaned daily and we were able to request towel and linen change when necessary. Jane in reception was very helpful and efficient. She was happy to arrange taxis for trips out. Maenam is a more peaceful alternative to Chaweng.

The lovely, unique setting with beach bungalows right on the beachfront. The golden sand that is cleaned meticulously every day was our favourite part. You can hear the waves gently crashing on the sand all day and night, so a wonderfully constant relaxing vibe. We loved the friendly staff, Jane in particular was so helpful and kind. A special thank you goes to Nicha for her delightful massages and funny conversation. I wish I could have taken her back to Australia with me! The only down side is the beds aren’t very comfortable and the bathrooms could use a bit of an update.

The mattresses need to be a bit more comfortable and the bathrooms need an upgrade. Other than a few minor repairs, Moonhut bungalows will be remembered very fondly for some wonderful memories.

This place is magical. It is a bit scruffy around the edges, but that's just superficial stuff. Everything works that needs to. You are staying right by/on the beach. There are a few beach restaurants and bars, a very short walk up the beach. They all close fairly early, and the nights are peaceful. Shops a 5 minute walk away.

Some of the staff in the restaurant right next to the bungalows are moody, and the woman who runs it is rude. We would have eaten there a lot more if they had been more welcoming. We could see they made other guests uncomfortable, too.
