If you're looking for a beach holiday in Kata, look no further, because the Andaman is a wonderful hotel with great relaxation facilities. It's worth asking for an ocean view room because the panoramic views are amazing. The pool water is very pleasant and the hotel is situated on a hill, so the hotel's huge terrace below offers a wonderful view of the nearby beach and ocean. If you can bear the steep walk, you can get directly down to the beach, but there is a special shuttle service from the hotel to the beach every hour. Kata beach is also quite busy and varied, but less crowded than Patong, so for those looking for a real break, this accommodation is ideal. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and great walks in the area.

We extended our stay so I've copied my previous review here. This is a very special resort in Kata area - quiet, away from the bustle and craziness of Kata but close enough to walk to the beach and the centre. It's located amongst green gardens with fragrant frangipani trees with spectacular terrace view onto the beach. The pools are clean and very relaxing. The rooms are updated, clean and very spacious. The staff is very nice and polite, accommodating and understanding. We stayed during low season so the resort was not busy. The guests are multinational and because of the location the resort does not get many Russian tourists or families with kids so it's quiet, relaxed and the vibe is more boutique and elegant. Breakfasts are very nice, tasty, with plenty of choice of hot meals, different every day, suitable for vegetarians. The hotel has no smoking policy in the rooms and balconies so it is very very good - there's a dedicated smoking area in the gardens. We were very satisfied with our stay and considering the unappealing and busy Kata area this hotel is perhaps the best choice for those who are looking for something quiet and away from mass consumerism. We got a room upgrade which was very nice - the room was overlooking the gardens with partial see view and it was bright and pleasant. The hotel offers a shuttle to the beach and back. The hotel organised an event during our stay to promote sustainability, there is many displays around the hotel to raise guests awareness of the food waste, especially during breakfast, about the water conservation and recycling so it's a positive gesture as well.

Things to improve - display a clear no smoking sign on balconies so guests who are not aware will be informed on the non smoking policy. More flexibility with shuttle booking - without having to book every time and especially the return shuttle because it's hard to estimate when one will be coming back. The hotel is located on the steep hill, it's not that bad as others say but it's definitely a workout. It would help to have the garden beach access pathway cleaned on a regular basis to make it more accessible and pleasant to use - it's faster to go down and back than using the road.

The view was fantastic but only if you got the right bedroom floor.

They tell you a sea view room but trees block the whole view. Insisted on better view room as we paid for it finally got a new room. They don't mention that the hotel is on a very steep hill. Walking up it is not recommended unless your young or fit. It's a short walk but it's steep and no foot path so avoid the cars especially in the dark

The view over Kata beach is amazing.

The pool can only be used until 6 pm which is not convinient. The signs on the pool say chemical treatment from 8 pm to 8 am but this is put out a few minutes before 6 pm and no one is allowed in. The pool bar and the fake grass in front of it makes it look like a cheap bar instead of a 5 start resort. I would definitely refurbish that. Housekeeping in this wing cleans the rooms with the door open which means that mosquitos enter the room and my body was covered in bites. Make sure to ask them to clean the room with the doors closed.

It was a good resort with good breakfast , nice pool and good location as well.

We had booked 2 rooms and we weren't accommodated together in the same floor. We had booked atleast 3 weeks in advance so I found this as a casual attitude at the reception as well where we were received. Most requests were turned down at the reception and not very responsive to queries and we felt that it was so not common especially for a country like Thailand which is known for its hospitality and most hotels go out of their way to make guests feel comfortable.

Nice hotel, great views - can see the Big Buddah. Good sized room.with a massive bed, we had a view of the sea. Good pools, always managed to get a sun lounger at any time.during the day. Good selection of drinks at the bar - very nice frozen cocktail. Good choice of food for breakfast and lunch/dinner if you want to eat at the hotel. Staff very helpful, we wanted a taxi one evening and they couldn't get hold of any on phone so one of the lads at the taxi desk jumped on his scooter and went and got us one from the centre. Had a lovely back massage and face massage at the spa - more expensive than in town but we'll worth it. Yes the hotel is on a hill, but only a short walk down to the centre. Plus free bus every hour from the hotel and back. Doesn't take too long though to walk back, or you can jump in a taxi for 200 baht.

Lovely setting. Brilliant views. I think we got upgraded as our room was huge and had a bath on the balcony which was amazing (but no one ever told us that we’d been upgraded so we didn’t know to thank them). Felt very looked after by the staff. Everyone was lovely and brilliant. Service by the pool was excellent. Pool having lots of different sections was cool. Loved the gym, brilliant addition, super clean and lovely open space. Loved the spa also, very well worth having, the voucher on arrival encouraged me to give it a try too.

Overall many things were a little run down and the attention to detail with the cleaning and upkeep of the facilities was lacking - there were many dead flies found in our room and bits were breaking off the furniture. The upgrade to the pool room was amazing but no one had cleaned the pool so it had bird poo and dead flies all over it which I had to clean out before we could use. Same theme with the main pool, looks lovely but attention to detail lacking as there were cracks and dirt.

The rooms were lovely and spacious. Cleaning service was excellent. Fresh robes everyday, pool towels provided aswell as flip flops. Toiletries replenished daily. Bottles water provided daily. Air- conditioning excellent. The pool area was lovely and relaxing and always plenty choice of beds. Excellent view of Kata beach.

The first few days at breakfast there was a lot of uncovered food e.g fruit, salad, sauces, which were covered in numerous flies crawling on them. Which obviously put us off eating any of that food. We then noticed on about the 5th day, most things were covered and staff were using disinfectant to clean surfaces and most things were now covered. There now was hardly any flies and so eating breakfast was much more comfortable and relaxing.

Shuttle service should be promoted more with more rides after 17h30. Stagnant water at garden rooms on patio must be cleaned to avoid smelling badly. Overall my stay was great.
