Literally everything - the staff was absolutely amazing, so nice and welcoming and ready to help with anything we needed. The masseuse was incredible - such a good massage and decent price for one being done at the hotel, she was so lovely. The facilities were incredible - good size gym and equipment, really nice spa with the steam room and sauna and jacuzzi and really good pool and lounge chairs. You can get pool and beach towels and the room is equipped with a great mini bar (for a charge), iron, hair dryer, bathroom products. The rooms were incredibly clean and well equipped - also very good size and super comfortable beds - all facilities were just great. Distance to old town for food was so good - 15 mins walking. The hotel was super clean throughout as well. Breakfast was good - had decent choices, just a continental selection.

I would say really small things like some pool chairs being a bit broken, the mini bar being a bit expensive, the pool (and gym) being a bit crowded so some people had to use their towels (but this wasn’t a big deal) and the shower temperature being a bit temperamental, but none of these detract from the fact that overall this has been the best hotel we’ve stayed in Spain (having visited 13 cities).

Location was good away from the old town and crowds and noise, but close enough to walk to old town. Room was spacious and very comfortable, and parking provided was excellent. Rachel was superbly friendly and extremely helpful. Good coffee (for an Australian) around the corner at La Fonda Cafe.

Inside pool with maximum 12 people at a time, with only eight lounges available for use., and no other facility for putting clothes, towels etc whilst in the pool except the floor, if you were the other four. The pool could have been a couple of degrees warmer. Bedside tables would have been good to put drinks and snacks on, the shelf behind the pillows was hard to access when on the bed.

Location was good to walk to the old town and the room was spacious and comfortable. The rooftop area was great to relax in the sun.

The spa area was not as expected, very small and crowded

Nice and quiet. Breakfast was good. Gym was substantial for a hotel - well equipped. Sauna and spa were good after a day of exploring.

Parking not always available but we did know this before hand. Do not leave your car unattended outside the hotel. Parking police regularly patrol it and there is nowhere to unload really. Requested a twin room but on checkin wasn’t available. They did ‘upgrade’ us to a ‘superior’ room (I would call it superior) to a small king bed which my 18 yo and I had to share. The bathroom layout is very strange and be aware of it especially if sharing with teenage son or someone you don’t know well. The toilet and basin have a solid door. Next to it is the shower with glass stepping out into and area that has a light curtain covering it. Also, there is small window as the bed head. This isn’t private at all and a little tricky to cover up so it is.

The spa facilities were excellent and a great way to relax our aching old bones after hours of sightseeing. Exceptionally clean and well soundproofed rooms. Staff were very helpful and changed our room and transferred our cases without any issues after we had a problem with a pervasive smell.

We were staying 2 weeks at the hotel. For that length of time, our superior double room needed to be more comfortable.. It was impossible to sit up in bed to read or watch the TV as there was an open shelf behind it. The bathroom facilities were great but took up more than half the hotel room space with a pointless open dressing area where shirts could be hung, but not longer items like dresses, which i had to hang on the radiator. There was only one comfortable chair in this double room. This may seem petty, but the hotel had no bar, or comfortable lounge area for guests to relax in, except the reception lobby, the indoor spa or the sun loungers on the roof. If you stay for a weekend these niggles won't be an issue but if you're planning a longer stay I would choose another hotel.

This is a lovely hotel with great facilities and friendly staff. We moved to a premium room as the initial room was far too small for a weeks holiday and the second room was fine. Breakfast was good. The hotel spa facility was lovely. The roof top sun lounge area with small pool was also lovely and fresh water and cava was available here. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was about 10-15 minutes stroll to the beach/old town which was fine.

We booked a standard double room which was definitely too small for a weeks holiday (which we had booked). We didn't like not having a wardrobe. There are a few hooks above a dressing area so not good if you want to take nice clothes to hang up (especially dresses for the ladies as these just hang over everything left on the shelves). The ironing board was ridiculous as tiny and you had to clip out the legs and put on top of the bed to iron. Again if you have nice clothes or a nice dress to iron this isn't good enough. You end up ironing and then creasing your clothes up whilst you turn things around on the tiny board on top of the bed.

Hotel was fantastic! It is situated off a back street in the new town, just a short 10 min walk to the old town for the best pintxos and about 10 mins away from the main train/bus station. Spa facilities were nice, you are able to book a 1hr slot each day in the spa which prevents overcrowding (can’t comment on the treatments as we never got any). Rooms were nice and modern and extremely clean. Really hard to fault this hotel!

I just wished they had smaller pillows, whilst the pillows were nice to rest on, I found them too large to sleep on.

Perfectly clean, nice spa area & rooftop pool, very approachable and pleasant staff, especially Helena in reception. Would definitely stay again. Nicely located close to the train station. Have been to previous Axel hotels and had worried it may be a little too liberal for my parents in their 60s, but it’s absolutely fine

About 15-20 min walk from the old town & Gros area, but very doable. A little expensive, although I did visit during the jazz festival

Very friendly & helpful staff. Breakfast finished at great times. Room lovely and clean. Gym is good - but too hot and pool is cute. Jacuzzi spa very good. I liked the provision of water at reception and the pool.

There was never gym towels in the gym. The gym is too hot the air conditioner needs to be stronger or more units and need cups for fountain. The pool when busy - needs more chairs. There is room. The bar seats are not useful really.

Excellent!! It was such a luxurious, relaxing and peaceful stay. The room was very spacious and the beds were so comfortable. The room had all the necessary amenities and the wellness floor with the spa, sauna and hammam was such a treat!! The hotel is only a max 10 minute walk to the beach and 15 - 20 minute walk to the old town, but there’s also lots to see nearby and some great Pintxos bars and cafes very close. Staff are so friendly and helpful. If I’m ever back in San Sebastián I’ll be staying here!
