We loved this hotel! The room is one of the biggest we've stayed in; we had dinner on one night, which was excellent. Breakfast is well presented and caters for all tastes, I enjoyed a variety of things from the menu over 3 days. The thing that made this stay most memorable for us though was the staff at the hotel. Without exception, they were friendly and helpful and really couldn't do enough to make our stay a memorable one. We would highly recommend the Cookie Jar. (Be sure to visit the castle too. Only 50 yards away, it's beautiful and, again, the people conducting the tours were brilliant).

The decor is exceptional throughout the hotel, really luxurious but quirky in places too. The beds were really comfortable, which was important to me as I'm pregnant right now. Beautiful room and gorgeous bathroom with all Penhaligon's toiletries. The staff were all lovely, so friendly even during the busy breakfast period. The breakfast was superb and really set us up for the day; I had sourdough with avocado and eggs and helped myself to a big bowl of fresh fruit with yogurt from the bar. All delicious, and most of it locally sourced. I also loved that my dog was welcome, he received a ball and there was a jar of dog biscuits in the room for him. He was not permitted anywhere else in the hotel but that was fine because he waited nicely in the car when we had our breakfast.

There was nothing bad about our stay, I hope to return to The Cookie Jar after our baby is born for a little holiday.

We were warmly greeted upon arrival and were given a free room upgrade! Our room was beautiful and spacious, lots of beautiful interiors , Penhaligon toiletries, teas, coffee, gorgeous cookies! There was nothing more we needed except we wished we’d booked a third night! We dined in the bistro restaurant that night, service was exceptional, nothing too much trouble. Our meals were delicious and the portion size and presentation was extremely good and generous. The lounge area was very comfortable and it was lovely to relax in there after our meal with our friends who were staying there also and have Brandys and cocktails. A great end to the night!

Absolutely nothing to dislike or complain about

The staff were amazing. The lounge was cosy and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent (try the smoked kippers). Dinner in the evening was exceptional. The rooms are comfortable and there is a high attention to detail. The location is perfect for Alnwick, Bamburgh, Holy Island etc… We stayed 4 nights (not 1), so we did meet almost all the staff.

Parking is by permit on the street but our car grounded out in the bays on the hotel side. We were able to park in the same street all 4 nights, but it wasn’t always easy to find a spot. Outside our room was a bright street light, which the roller blind didn’t keep out. The drapes in the bedroom could do with being heavier.

Stayed there for one night. Excellent place to stay. Very friendly staff. Room clean and tidy. Real comfortable bed (I’m fussy with the sheets on the bed) these were excellent, I slept well. Restaurant for Dinner and breakfast, food and service were excellent. You would think you were in a Michelin Star restaurant!

Nothing really. Had no major gripes. Some places are low for head room. But they had padded protection on those low areas. It honestly, it wasn’t an issue really. I really shouldn’t have mentioned it.

It is a fabulous building with lots of history and is decorated to an extremely high standard. The location is excellent, and parking just outside of the hotel is a bonus and very convenient. The staff are very welcoming and can not do enough to ensure your stay is as perfect as possible. The food is excellent quality and lots of variety and again the staff in the dining room where very friendly and accommodating. A huge shout out to the cleaning team as the whole building was immaculate. There was an issue while we were there, which I must say was out of the control of the staff. However, the management team dealt with it as quickly as possible and with empathy at how it had affected us. The issue was dealt with very professionally, so I have to give the management team 10 out of 10 for customer care. This is why I would not hesitate to stay there again and to recommend it to others.

Regarding the rooms, meals and surroundings, faultless.

The only quibble we had was the drinks menu. You had orchard pig reveller cider on the menu but none in stock. Being cider drinkers, this was a big deal as we were forced to look at beers and we chose Moretti. When we ordered a second round, you only had one bottle left so we had to choose another beer! You would think that each day the cellar is checked and stocked properly and/or the menu is adjusted to suit.

The staff were amazing and the hotel itself was stunning. We still comment on how comfy the bed was months later. Dogs were accommodated wonderfully and Vinnie adores his tennis ball from the room.

It was slightly disappointing that dogs couldn’t go into the dining room for breakfast or other meals as this meant we had to go elsewhere for breakfast and tea. But, we did know this at the time of booking and still decided to book due to how gorgeous the hotel is and its location.

The decor is beautiful, bed super comfy and the location is central but quiet. Breakfast was sensational and the staff were all an absolute delight to deal with.

The room was stifling hot (despite the radiators being off and it not being that hot a day/night), so a ceiling fan or plug in fan might be a good idea. Also, the network connection on the TV wasn’t working properly so the connection kept buffering when we were watching Prime Video which was annoying. The evening meal in the restaurant was absolutely delicious but quite expensive.

Words really fail me to explain how special this property was. The attention to every single detail was exquisite. I’m a professional organizer. My business is details. I’ve never seen anything like this. Everything - even the lights on the floor that automatically come on when you walk into the bathroom - was planned perfectly when this former convent was remodeled to make a sacred space for all its guests. There was even framed sheet music in the halls to, I assume, pay homage to the beautiful music that must’ve once graced the hallways. The staff was so warm and welcoming. The breakfast buffet was like something out of a Veranda magazine spread. The breakfast was delicious. At every turn in the hotel and the room itself, we were met with a delightful and unexpected experience. Who puts this much thought into a public space? The Cookie Jar does. You made our once-in-a-lifetime trip unforgettable.

I dare anyone to find anything wrong with this property! That would be like someone not loving Betty White. Or puppies. It’s not possible.
