Comfy bed Good evening food and excellent breakfast. Friendly staff Very well situated for walks on Cleeve Common.

Room comfortable and clean, and roomy. But lack of cupboard space, and only one chair. No hanging spaces for coats etc. But we were lucky weatherwise - no need for cold/wet weather stuff. We had hoped to reserve a table in bar area, because we have quite a large dog, but told it was not possible. (As it turned out not a problem for us as there was plenty of room and Roxy the dog was well behaved!). However the following night a table had a 'reserved' notice on it!! , for a couple with a dog- annoying!!

very popular beer garden with stunning views. plenty of free car parking, direct access to cleeve hill, good breakfast apart from the econo sausages. bed comfortable, some noise from plumbing ( other rooms running taps etc). Mainly good customer service, The lad serving the breakfasts was excellent and engaging. The one time the young girl with the blonde hair in a pony tailed served us, she was awaful, aloof, seemed totally disinterested in the job she was doing and I got the impression she though serving breakfasts to guest was beneath her.

noise from pipes in bedroom and door slamming in the morning, I think breakfast shoudl be served up to 0930, The 0900 cut off is early for people enjoying a holiday and possibly a longer sleep

The hotel had beautiful views, but as these rooms cost extra and I was not spending much time in the room I chose to pay less. Still enjoyed the views from the bar/ restaurant and Reception. The food was good, breakfast and dinner from the menu, and the bed was very comfortable, so I would recommend it.

My room at the back of the hotel was noisy the first night, which stopped me getting enough sleep - could have been an air conditioning unit, something mechanical, a low noise but loud. You cannot go to the restaurant or breakfast room or most of the rooms without multiple stairs, I don’t remember any mention of this when I booked and it was a problem for me.

We had a lovely double room with a four poster bed which was pretty comfortable (room 21). The view from our bay window was great although it did mean we were right next to the road which is quite a busy one. It didn't bother us too much in the end but might if you're a light sleeper. There was an enormous TV wall mounted so it can be viewed from in bed and also a couple of nice armchairs in the bay window area so a nicely set up room. Dinner down in the restaurant was very nice and not over priced. It's an excellent location for anyone going racing (a 10 minute drive from the course) and is a pleasant stay.

The shower was a good powerful one but the shower curtain wasn't very efficient resulting in a very wet bathroom floor.

Location of hotel, young staff very friendly and helpful even as they were very busy, good food, prices, bed was very comfortable, was great that I had booked single room but was pleasantly surprised I had a double bed and the room facilities quite acceptable.

Had a nice double room, but at the back of hotel so missed the lovely view from window of the front. I was woken by generator or something gently humming outside very early morning, presumably from kitchen. But not a great problem, not too loud. Nothing else not to like about the place.

This was, I believe, my eighth stay at The Rising Sun this year and there are more to come. The rooms are well cared for, the food is beautifully prepared and the setting is outstanding. That should be enough to guarantee a great stay and the bonus is the exceptional quality of the staff, each one a star. As soon as guests arrive they are likely to be greeted and checked in by Lewis, always so helpful and friendly. During my three night stay I dined twice and on each occasion the service was brilliant. Soon after his trainee status ended young Jake has become a class act, a model of courtesy and efficiency. And then there is Bexley! On my first night he had, and I apologise for this particular metaphor, every diner eating out of his hand. I now commit the cardinal literary sin of mixing metaphors. This talented conductor engaged his orchestra (the customers) at an astonishing prestissimo tempo, each member responding with enthusiasm. The result was a joyous symphony with everyone playing his or her part. It was a very happy dining room indeed. A common question put to the maestro was, "If you're on tonight who will be serving us at breakfast?" All were reassured that Bexley would be taking up his baton again the following morning. Over three days Bexley was on hand each morning, but with the tempo being a more leisurely andante, Such composure, such charm, such customer service. When asked why he was so happy he replied, "I love my job and I love talking to the customers," Such an attitude, combined with elements already mentioned, ensure the success of the hotel. I had great food throughout this stay including what I would describe as one of the best starters that I have ever had anywhere: the baked camembert was stunning, a masterpiece. All credit is due to the Manager, who keeps finding wonderful young staff who are a credit to the hotel. Here's to my next stay. Tony Kiely.

Nothing at all.

Staff were so friendly and welcoming, food was brilliant, room was lovely. The view was amazing. Room was clean and spacious. Value for money phenomenal 😊

Mattress was a bit soft and uncomfortable so didnt sleep well, it was a little noisy as by the roadside but that was noones fault. Wouldve been nice if the tv connected to the internet so that we couldve logged into netflix etc as it was a smart tv just not connecting to the free wifi properly, so had to connect it to my mobile hotspot. But again this was only a minor inconvenience. All in all still a fab trip especially for the price

Staff friendly and attentive Good food Good well stocked Bed comfy Shower Good and decent size bathroom

Woke up 2am sweating and very uncomfortable as radiator was so hot, you couldn't touch it. Had to open window and turn noisey fan on to cool down. The radiator in the room dial was broken so you couldn't adjust the heat but eventually managed to adjust it after figuring out where the dial was broken. This led to be very tired next day which i was going to mark the hotel down but I didn't want to score harshly when everything else was good.

Well, this was my fourth visit in a couple of months so that suggests that I am more than happy with The Rising Sun. I was welcomed in such a friendly manner by Lewis who gave me the relevant details in such a caring way. Even this routine booking- in he makes special . I had three evening meals, the first hosted by the exemplary Archie, whose welcome and table service were once again exceptional. He really knows how to deal with guests, making each feel special. The next two nights were equally good and I was given great service by Lily and Oscar Despite the busy restaurant, each look relaxed and efficient and both were attentive and friendly. Behind the scenes the food was beautifully prepared so I thank the chefs. As ever, breakfast was a delight, not just the food but also the service. I was fortunate to be hosted by Tom before he set off for pastures new, a great loss to The Rising Sun but a blessing to his new establishment. Once again my entire stay was wonderful. I have already booked for December but look forward to some stays in between as well. I can't get enough of the place! ./

Just having to come home!

As you approach the entrance the board welcomes you on behalf of "Simon and his wonderful staff." Never has there has been a more apt adjective. On this, something like my sixth stay this year, I found once again that the staff deserve this accolade. I was greeted and booked in by the every friendly and helpful Lewis, an excellent front man. Later on he was the meeter and greeter in the restaurant. This time I was in room 12, fresh, spotless, well appointed and with a lovely view. Over the two days the room was nicely and carefully serviced. I used the restaurant only on my first night. As ever it was a delight. The food was lovely and the service impeccable: I thank Lauren for being so courteous, friendly and efficient. There was one small issue with my starter, and such things do happen in a busy restaurant, Lauren was not accountable for a kitchen error but she took immediate and full responsibility and sorted everything with a profuse apology. That is the measure of a good establishment; deal with problems efficiently and courteously, as Lauren did. Breakfast. as ever, was excellent. I wondered how things would be without the amazing Tom, now working elsewhere. I saw straightaway that Simon had once again recruited well and for two mornings I was looked after by the charming and friendly Bexley, a credit to the hotel. Not only was his table service exemplary, but his engagement with customers was wonderful. He gave me helpful information about ascending to the summit of Cleeve Hill and later that day I did just that, for the first time. Bexley is a walking advert for the local tourist board. I heard him giving great advice to other customers. This was another lovely stay. I have already booked for December but will no doubt be back before then. I send my thanks and best wishes to everyone on the staff. Tony Kiely
