Good sized room in a very quiet area of the hotel. Well stocked tea & coffee, a fridge and also a microwave, which was unexpected. The addition of a fan was very welcome as it was really warm.
Although the breakfast has moved to a really nice new room (I have stayed at this hotel many times in the past), I found the hot buffet element to not be very hot, which spoilt the breakfast a little. The quality of the ingredients was good as always, but I would like the hot breakfast to be hot.

First time staying here and would happily come again. Brilliant location not too far from the city centre and other restaurants and shops nearby. The room was stunning with a jacuzzi bath and super comfy beds, as well as mini fridge which came in helpful for the 2 days we were there.
The only let down was the breakfast which being gluten intolerant was very basic. Was told 1 choice cereal and for hot food only bacon, beans and an egg. Asked about gluten free toast and was told “no” then after I finished most my breakfast had some un-toasted gluten free bread placed on my table. So for anyone else with a gluten intolerance would suggest going elsewhere for breakfast.

We had executive room which was spacious and clean. The bed was super comfy. Breakfast was good plenty choice. About a mile flat walk into Chester, but there is a bus stop close to hotel. Nice big car park at hotel.
Reception facility was poor no one to ask questions to majority of the time. At breakfast asked about what type of eggs we would like before we had got our cereal, then fried egg came, sat going cold as we hadn't finished cereal, didn't have eggs again for that reason. Room at front of hotel very noisy with traffic and church bells. On check out no one on reception again just left key on counter, rather rude I thought no one available to ask if we had enjoyed our stay ...

Staff very friendly when greeted really helped my husband to sort out flowers etc for our arrival. Shower was great.
Pumps for showers really need to be sorted, they are really loud and was woken by other rooms shower pumps early in the morning. our one was very loud in the room. Breakfast should have been explained better. was asked how we liked our eggs and we said scrambled and fried, in which two eggs turned up we was not advised that the rest of the breakfast was on the hot plates, mushrooms had run out and no more was brought out. the breakfast was nice, but better communication from staff.

breakfast good. Both continental & English available. Eggs cooked to order with remainder being buffet style but seemed to be sensibly cooked and kept warm without drying out which was very good. Room (no 6) small but more than adequate, nicely laid out and seemed to be very clean. coffee facilities included pack of biscuits, bottle of water and packet of crisps as well as there being a microwave in the room - more than expected! Only things I would mark down as negatives would be: a. windows are slightly frosted as view outside very limited. b. TV appeared to struggle with channels other than BBC 1 and 2, pixilating / freezing - this was about 18:00 and may have been wifi struggling - I didn't check it out later so cannot comment on if it improved or not. c. Bedside lights quite stylish but appeared to have to be turned on / off at the wall socket (or was I missing something very obvious???) Overall - very happy and will look to book again when next in Chester.
only minor negatives as above

Really well run traditional bed and breakfast. Very comfortable room and the whole place is obviously carefully maintained. A microwave and fridge in the room was a real bonus. The team who run the breakfast room, and I think they also do the housekeeping, are first class. It is located in a pleasant residential area only a 15 minute walk from the station and about 15 - 20 minutes walk into Chester. Nice range of cafes and restaurants in Hoole just a 5 minute walk away and there is also a handy laundromat.
Everything was excellent. It is on a main road but the windows are double glazed so it wasn’t intrusive.

The staff were helpful in changing my room when I was not given a walk-in shower. They also adjusted the switches on the shower as they were too tight for me to manoeuvre. The breakfast was good although only a choice of scrambled or fired eggs when I wanted a poached egg. The room was comfortable with a TV and free Wi-Fi on the premises, and the bed was comfortable too.
The distance from the centre of town which could only be reached by bus which I had forgotten about & the first day I walked the very long distance into town. A reminder from staff would have been helpful on the day I arrived.

Excellent location, lovely clean room and a nice large shower, the seating area outside our room was a great place to sit and relax with a drink, overall a great place to stay.would definitely come back.
Even though the breakfast was lovely and there were plenty of options to choose from it did seem a bit chaotic, had to wait for a table to become available. Didn't like the idea of having to sit opposite complete strangers to have breakfast, when I informed the lady I didn't want to do this she seemed rather offended and rolled her eyes at me, I understand there were quite a few guests perhaps it would be better if you were given a time slot and therefore not feel under pressure to eat your breakfast and get out as quickly as possible because as fast as you were using your plates/ bowls they were being cleared away whilst you were still eating.

The place was absolutely decorated tastefully and gorgeous. It was spotlessly clean. . The bed was TV was huge and had a good size fridge in the bedroom. Bedroom was decorated lovely. We had our own small courtyard which had a table and two chairs which was nice to sit outside and have a glass of wine. Plenty of car parking. It was a 15 minute walk into Chester or you could catch the bus which was just outside. The breakfast was in the hotel just across the courtyard in the conservatory. The breakfast was self service, except for the eggs which the waitress brought to you in a separate plate. The choice of eggs were fried or scrambled. My only gripe with this is they bought the eggs out too soon and we had not finished having our cereal then the eggs would be cold. They need to ask you when you want the eggs bought to the table. There was plenty of choice of cereals, fresh fruit, toast, cheeses and hams etc. Help yourself to bacon, sausages , beans, tomatoes and mushrooms which were piping hot and really cooked nice, delicious. Would we stay here again, most definitely.
Just need to get the timing of the eggs bought to your table sorted but apart from this constructive criticism everything else was great.

Spacious room and bathroom in a character house. A lot of care was taken to ensure visitors' comfort: hospitality snacks, a little chocolate treat, a fridge and a microwave for the guest's use to mention a couple. As I had to leave early, I was unable to have the breakfast and was very touched when the staff presented me with a 'packed breakfast' bag on my departure. For the size of and the comforts of the room, added extras and inclusion of breakfast in the price, I think it's a good value and I'd happily recommend Chester House Guest House.
The hotel is located on a busy road, which means that traffic is audible at most times. Nothing that can be done about it, and unless one is a light sleeper, it is compensated by the standards of the service.
