We thoroughly enjoyed our three-night stay at this charming hotel. Our spacious room on the fourth floor was a true delight – incredibly comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. The staff were exceptional, consistently professional, and always eager to assist, making our stay even more pleasant. The hotel's location offers the best of both worlds: a remarkably quiet and safe neighborhood for restful nights, yet within a manageable distance of Edinburgh's iconic sights. We found the 20-25 minute walk to Edinburgh Castle and the Old Town's attractions to be an enjoyable part of our daily routine, even with Edinburgh's famously hilly terrain. However while we enjoyed the walk each day the hilly terrain might present a challenge for some visitors.

Everything was great

I have stayed in Nira Caledonia before and really liked it. Staff are very friendly and helpful. You have to be prepared to walk up some steep steps, which was fine for me. The rooms are small but very comfortable and the bathroom is great. Both times my room has been very quiet. The continental breakfast is excellent! This time I also had dinner in the restaurant, which was very enjoyable. Next time I come to Edinburgh I will certainly consider staying in NIra Caledonia again.

The heating seemed to have a mind of its own. My room got quite chilly in the evening and the staff did everything they could to rectify it - even brought an electric radiator to warm the room up (thank you so much), which I turned off before going to bed. At 3.00 in the morning the main heating suddenly came on!

The entrance is impressive, with the red carpet outside as you walk in. Reception is lovely, with very helpful and pleasant staff. Check-in was quick and easy, even with a £50 deposit taken. I had requested a room on the top floor, which we got but with no lift - it was 65 stairs up to the loft. Room was very clean, spacious and tastefully decorated. Bed was a little on the hard side, but slept fine and the shower was great in the morning.

Nothing to note that we didn't like, but I have one small suggestion. I booked us a townhouse grand, which was in the loft at the very top of the hotel - maybe you could think of putting up another door at the very short entrance hall to the room, which would aid privacy, minimize noise and potential draughts. Or even a very swanky, heavy curtain which could be pulled closed at night.

I've stayed at a few posh places such as inn on the lake in ullswater or Langdale hotel in Windermere and I'd honestly say, Nira is the one I've enjoyed my stay the most at. Hospitality is on point. We turned up late at night due to a long drive with the snow and ice in Durham. Andy made sure we were fed with his famous sandwiches and top quality gin. Everyone is friendly, open to a chat or to let you do your own thing. The location is superb. You cannot beat the views, you can see the castle if you're on the top floor. Parking, is no issue really. Honestly, I'm half tempted to quit working in Manchester and to be nira Caledonia's new electrician/maintenance staff if I can stay there!! Will be booking again!

It was lovely, friendly, cozy and very comfortable. The breakfast was fabulous

There was just a few wee things that would make a huge difference; The body lotion (beautiful products by the way) was in the furthest away holder which means you have to get back in the bath after you’ve dried off to get it and the whirlpool bath things all came off the bath while I was running it which was not great. The hairdryer couldn’t be plugged in to anywhere near a mirror which wasn’t easy. The towels were amazing, so thick and luxurious but, I nearly took the towel holder off the wall trying to get them out.

We new this would be a bit squeezy as we chose the 'Wee Double' but despite the small size, the room was very comfortable. We did not know at the time of booking that it was a heritage listed building and they have done a lovely job with it. Our room was on the top floor and no elevator but never fear. The staff are awesome, carrying our bags up and down the stairs. The location was good, an easy walk to Princes St.

A tad expensive but then again it was summer and festival time

We had booked the Nira to stay somewhere close to the Botanics as we were getting married there on the Saturday. We had booked a wee double but on arrival we were told they had upgraded us to the junior suite which was stunning! They had left a lovely card and chocolates in the room for us. On the Saturday of the wedding they sent up a bottle of champagne for us. All these extras added to a very special time for us. All the staff we so welcoming, attentive and very friendly. We can't thank them enough.

The red carpet was out for guests and the service matched. The room was beautiful. The shower had a rainfall head with 4 jets on the front. The room had space for two comfy chairs, one provided a view of the garden. Very satisfying full Scottish breakfast. The staff were so friendly and efficient. The young woman at reception is the nicest person I’ve met in any hotel. If you want red carpet treatment, this is the hotel for you.

I can’t find any faults.

The hotel is in a perfect location. Walkable to all the main sites yet in a very calm neighborhood. Would definitely come back to stay here. The building is beautiful.

There is no elevator which they had mentioned in advance. Walking up two flights of stairs that are crooked can be tricky but it was manageable. The bathtub with all its gadgets was aged and not inviting. Simple bathtubs would make it look cleaner.

Excellent location; very helpful, considerate, and courteous staff. Loved the library/bar/breakfast room! Decor was lovely and the bed was super comfortable.

The bathroom was pretty awful: dangerously slippery floor even when dry, no grab bars to get in/out of the tub, a mirror directly across from the toilet resulting in an unavoidable fully exposed view of yourself sitting on it, very little counter space for our toiletries.
