Room was nice, beds very comfy. Electric fan in cupboard --- needed that weekend! Breakfast very good. There was a wedding on that weekend. Thought it may be noisy late at night --- but heard nothing once in the room.

At breakfast we were expected to use the coffee machine for hot water to make tea - but the hot water came out all frothy and cloudy as it came out of the same valves as all the different makes of coffee. Had to ask staff for an electric kettle/ boil some water for me. [ Was no problem -- they brought out a large teapot of tea ]

The staff here are mostly brilliant. Reception is efficient and friendly, the cooked breakfast is really excellent. The cold options are good. The breakfast waitress is superb, the dinner waitress not quite as attentive. There is a lot of parking. Rooms are very clean with good facilities. A kettle with tea, milk, sugar and biscuits is provided. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk, downhill, from Ilminster town centre. We visited several National Trust properties, all within a 20 minute maximum drive.

The dinner menu is a bit limited. Staying 2 nights meant our favourites had already been opted for so on our 2nd night we ate in a nearby pub. Maybe a couple of specials on the menu would be nice. It would also be lovely to have some local apple juice at breakfast. Ilminster is close to lots of apple orchards.

For the price this hotel does a great job. It’s a great location, peaceful, beds are comfortable, views over the grounds are lovely and there’s free parking right outside. Staff are always super friendly and helpful.

The room decor is a little dated but that said rooms are very spacious and immaculately clean. Some higher quality offer in the bar in terms of wine would be good and if staff served proper fresh tea and coffee to your table at breakfast rather than having to get your own from a machine would make it a more relaxed experience.

I stay here a lot, I love staying here - team are amazing. Special mention to Chris who always checks me in and deals with all my quirks so I am sorted for a nice stay. Rooms nice and clean, late check out - no problem, breakfast to the room - no problem. I didn't order drinks with my breakfast as I planned to make tea in my room, spotting this the kind person who brought my breakfast had made me a fresh coffee in case - you do not get service like this anywhere else in the UK. I shall return once again. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Our Room had not been refurbished so was a little tired but ok for a couple of nights shower was not powerful But Daughters room was lovely with walk in shower. Breakfast was good Dinner not so only had one member of staff, dinner was cold when received, when returned veg was missing. Husband and daughter had finished theirs by the time i got mine. Was not charged for this meal. Hotel had a BBQ and my Daughter enjoyed her chicken burger. Husband had Hotel burger which he said was good. Dog Friendly and lovely staff

There was nothing to complain about it was perfect for a last minute booking.

Ok room, but communial area tired and bar "hostile" uncomfortable seats chairs and layout makes no area inviting to spend time, bar like transport cafe. Also room heating timing is very limited in annex, so just use electric radiayor as soon as you arrive. They may then realise it is false economy when electric bill is multiple higher tgan if C/H was on, AND NOT GET REPUTATION FOR COLD PEASANT ROOMS.

Breakfast was ok, although even the juice jug near empty and looked used/unclean because trying to minimise offering, but making what is offered look as if it is stale left overs.

Nice room up the back of the hotel so despite there being a wedding reception, we heard nothing from it. Breakfast was excellent, but mostly because of the amazing lady serving the tables. She was absolutely superb and deserves a very special commendation! Very courteous and supremely efficient.

Pillows! Why these soft pillows which crush down to nothing when you put your head on them? I was only staying for one night, but should have asked if they had any firm pillows!!

This is our second 2 night stay this year. The food was excellent- can recommemd the steak & ale pie! Breakfast was lovely too. Lovely room with a view. Staff very helpful.

Unfortunately I got locked in the bathroom, an unpleasant experience but I can't blame the hotel as it was due to something a previous occupier had done. To read the menu & info in our room you had to be able to use a QR code-not something we can do.

Beautiful old building that is being improved, you can see the new additions on the grounds as well as fabulous bathroom in our room. The room itself was a teeny tired but comfortable and clean either way a fabulous bathroom! The bar was great, huge selection of gins and vodka and choice of tap drinks. Bingo was certainly popular. We were so interested in this hotel’s history, we googled it on the Ilminster historical society website and found out it was built as a mansion built by the Shepherd family in 1864! Fascinating story there!

ROOM: The bedroom was in the attic up a number of flights of stairs. The only windows were 'velux' so no good views outside!! However it was a good size and nicely furnished, but the bed mattress was poor. BREAKFAST: Had to pre-order, good choice, well cooked. DINNER: Where the hotel came into its own, the menu was good with a wide choice, the food was excellent. The dining room was warm and welcoming and the staff were excellent.

We are seniors and the flights of stairs were a struggle for my wife.
