Light, warm and welcoming on a cool early spring evening. Clear instructions as no one-site staff, so it’s easy to access, and feels secure. It has almost everything needed for a comfortable overnight stay when passing through Inverness, in close proximity to the city centre. It’s become a favourite property for such brief stays, when the price is right.
Main dislike was that, needing to catch an early train and needing to get up before 7, the heating hadn’t come on so it was a chilly start, although the lovely hot shower slightly compensated.

A little gem of a guest house hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre but close enough to have a short walk to the river and centre. No staff are on site but the entrance process is simple with great instructions sent to me in advance of my arrival on how to get into the building and into my room. My room was a very good size and the bed was comfortable. The addition of the fridge was very welcome especially considering the weather whilst I was there allowing me to keep my water cool. The bathroom was stunning as well - clearly money has been invested into updating the bathroom and it is money well spent. The shower is excellent offering a rain shower head plus a hand held and it is very powerful and gets warm very quickly.
It is located on a reasonably busy road and so traffic can get quite busy and noisy but I am not the sort to down-score a hotel based on external noise such as a traffic or people, including other guests, as this out of the hotels control. However, I was woken in the night by creaky floorboards from neighbouring rooms - not sure if there is anything that can be done with that but it feels a little more in the control of the hotel. Other than that, it was a perfect stay

Winmar is a convenient stay, with all that you'd want in the room. A comfortable bed, a clean shower room and even a fridge. I did not use the TV. It was a very warm room and in perfect condition. The door access code to the room and to the house was handy too. I used their kitchen to make my sandwiches for the following day of travel and it was so immaculately clean, I enjoyed cleaning up after I had made my sandwiches thus returning the kitchen to its impeccable state. I'll stay again because the condition of this place is dependable and its location handy.
The central heating was on very high for my taste. I could barely sleep with the heat as I tossed and turned to get comfortable and shed my quilt in the heat. It surprises me how warm some people must like their environment if that level of heating, toasty to say the least, is what people find comfortable. To my taste, it was a bit excessive. I did not open the window, not to waste the energy. I am not sure if there was thermostatic controls within the room, I did not find any,

The entry system was well explained in messages before I arrived and it worked without hitch. After similar poor experience at other hotels with codes being issued that did not work, I was dreading this, but it worked impeccably with no issues. I was able to get in and out with no issues and I did to go shopping at a Tesco store down the road. The room had all I needed including a fridge, a telly, a shower and a bed. There was no noise or disturbance, it was really quiet and comfortable. I slept really well! The room was just close to the river and only a short walk to the transport connections. I will stay here again it was so practical for my passing through overnight stays.
Scotland is colder than other parts of the UK, but I was a bit surprised that the heating was on in mid summer. I had to keep my bedroom window open because otherwise it would have just been too hot for me. That upsets me to waste the energy, but I had no choice.

Fantastic location, very big room and a fantastic shower/bathroom. The fridge/freezer available in the room and coffee/tea station was very handy. Car park at the rear of the property was a huge bonus (first come first served though). Staff were extremely helpful when messaging them via the Booking.com messages.
Noise from the communal areas / slamming doors. This isn't the fault of the property itself and depends greatly on the type of guests staying there.

The accommodation is very good. There is a nice clean kitchen where you can eat take aways etc and a sitting room with a larger TV. The 24 hour helpline is also appreciated as I had to use it twice for access and requesting a missing tv remote. Mark came and replaced the remote and I was not made to feel like a nuisance.
The only fault is the distance to walk on foot with luggage which I struggled with although the directions were good. I would recommend a taxi from the town centre if you have luggage. Otherwise it is not a problem and all the guest houses seem to be on this side of the River Ness.

The location is perfect as it's only a short walk to the city centre with quick access to shops, supermarkets and nightlife. The property is clean and well presented with a large fridge freezer, kettle, tea and coffee in the room. The large communal dining kitchen has everything you need for either making your own meal or heating something up - again, clean and tidy. Clear self-check-in /out instructions
The bed in my room (room 10) was a little on the soft side, and the frame was a bit unsteady, which meant it seemed to make an awful lot of noise when I rolled over. Other than that it was more than adequate for a cheap place to stay.

If you just want a place to sleep or as a base to put your stuff then it ticks all the boxes. The bed was comfortable, location is very close to the centre, it's clean and the room was quite spacious. The coded entry means your not beholden to any particular arrival times. Also the shower was good with decent pressure.
Quite petty details really. The duvet set looked a bit like something you might have had in the 90s. Decaffeinated coffee or hot chocolate would have been nice for the hospitality tray. A smaller fridge freezer would have given less of a feel of bedsit to the room. But as I said, if you just want somewhere to stay then this really is good.

The price: it’s reasonable for an expensive city. Location good, in a quiet street 3 blocks from the river, and an easy walk to the city centre. Great shower. Helpful info (free sheet street map etc).
I’m not a fan of unattended properties (code sent to get in, etc) but this is a reasonable compromise. Wish I’d found out beforehand that I could/should have switched off the room fridge (which would have been a godsend in hot weather): it hummed gently for much of the night.

Old, charming building with self check-in and out, keypad entry to the rooms. Amazingly clean with plenty of space and good blackout curtains - which felt like such a luxury after a week of camping. Showers have exceptional water pressure. Large kitchen (although we didn't use it) and living room on the ground floor. Very soundproof.
A bit of a walk from the center, especially with heavy bags. Some water damage on the upper floor due to heavy rains (but no visible mold).
