I had read some mixed reviews but having had a really lovely stay, I think they were written by people who just love to complain and nit pick. This is not a stark, modern, generic hotel - it's lived in and loved. The staff are really friendly - all of them! I was met with a smile by everyone. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome and comfortable. There is plenty of car parking space within easy walking distance of both the main reception area and also all other access areas to the rooms and facilities. I loved my hefty key for my room - definitely wasn't going to lose that! My room (a junior suite overlooking the main road) was just lovely - bright, clean and warm. There was no noise from the road at all. I stayed two nights - Friday to Sunday - and was not disturbed at all by any road noise (and there were definitely cars going by). The bed was super comfortable with proper pillows and crisp, white sheets. The room facilities were spot on - clean kettle, iron and ironing board, hotel and local information, really fast wifi connection, lots of TV channels. Love the hanging space as well. The bathroom was huge with a freestanding bath that was big enough for me to relax (I need a lot of space!). The shower was beautifully hot (although could have done with a little more oomph for my liking but that's just a personal opinion). Breakfast on both days was great. Lots of buffet choice and a good full-english! I had 'surprise eggs' both days as I love all eggs and couldn't make my mind up! Fried eggs came the first day and poached the second - all cooked beautifully with lovely deep orange runny yolks. Perfect! We had dinner at the hotel on the first night - really lovely pie which was served quickly!

The only thing that I didn't like (and it is a teeny tiny gripe) was that the coffee sachets in the room were Nescafe. That is a purely personal issue as I won't buy anything by Nestle. So I just bring my own - I wasn't inconvenienced in any way at all.

Lovely friendly, helpful staff. Clean large bedrooms with bath and separate shower. Lots of space. Airy and clean. It was unique as it is a number of cottages together. Beautiful Bar area. Grand reception and gorggenerous cooked breakfast included. Also, there is ample parking. there is no need to worry about a space. Close to the village for the amazing bakery and shops. We came for the Splendour Festival and it was a perfect stay for couples. They were preparing for a wedding and we had a look at the function room. Looks amazing for a birthday party or a wedding. What a find!!!

Absolutely nothing it was all brilliant.

Friendly, responsive, professional staff who genuinely wanted us to enjoy our stay. Clean rooms. Good car park. Nice breakfast served in a pleasant room by lovely people. We were initially alarmed to find that there was a really big wedding taking place during our stay and, whilst it wasn’t fabulous to have wedding guests right outside our (downstairs) windows (mostly children playing in the pretty garden which just happened to be directly outside our room), the staff did everything they could to protect our privacy and visit. It turned out not to be an issue as the guests were considerate and respectful. We liked the friendly town of Ruddington too.

I get the impression that everyone is working hard to make the best of this hotel (not an easy task in this climate) and that includes some room upgrades. Our room was fine but it could also benefit from some attention, especially on the paintwork (wall by radiator in tv area and skirting boards). And a new mattress. We were in Lavender Room. I’d highly recommend a blackout blind as there’s a light right outside the door and over the immediately adjacent car park so - especially with the cream curtains - it was like sleeping with the lights on! I’d also recommend sticking some opaque privacy stickers to the bathroom window as we had plenty of (young and old) visitors going past the window. The blind was ok but not really enough with lights on.

Staff were very, very helpful throughout. Suite was presentable, bed excellent, decorating looked a little tired and in places wanted tidying up. Evening meal was very good, plentiful. Breakfast too was excellent, good variety. We believe the hotel is being gradually being revamped to improve its overall appeal to customers, especially as a popular wedding and entertainment venue. Parking; plenty of space.

The aesthetic appeal of the hotel didn't have that wow factor. Hopefully, the ongoing revamping will add value here. The front reception desk should be manned at all times. Twice we observed callers unable to get someone to answer the phone. I too tried ringing them the day after we departed Nottingham and was unable to speak to anyone on three separate occasions. Missed opportunities gone begging?? Frustrating.

We had a cosy junior suite (the Lavender room). We had a small lounge with sofa and TV which had patio door opening to a semi-private garden. Our bed was soft and comfortable and we had a good night sleep. Breakfast was a good selection and cooked to order. The hotel is in a small village with several pubs, restaraunts and takeaways, so we did not eat an evening meal in the hotel. Plenty of car parking available and we never had trouble finding a space. Our room, like all of them (I think) was at the back of the hotel so we had no road noise.

The room was a little tired if you looked closely and the gardens could have been a little bit more attended too but it all felt quite homely and togehter. If you like minimalist, modern and bright white wall this is not for you. As a ground floor room we were unfortunate to be below a bed room with occupants who liked to walk around seemingly constantly on the creeky floor boards above our bed.

FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING STAFF. BREAKFAST FRESHLY COOKED AND VERY GOOD. ON THE SECOND NIGHT I HAD AN EXCELLENT MEAL WITH FAMILY MEMBERS INCLUDING A CHILD OF 3 YEARS AND WE WERE WELL SERVED. THE WEATHER WAS VERY COLD AND IT ALSO SNOWED. I WAS VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE HEATING WHICH WAS LOVELY.

My room was on the top floor ( Heather). Stairs were narrow and steep. The bathroom was clean but a non-slip mat was not provided and a grab rail was also not available. As a 79 year old with arthritic knees I found the stairs difficult and I also had trouble stepping in and out of the bath for a shower.

Lovely staff who give a great service. The evening staff at dinner are so friendly and Helen and the team at breakfast, just excellent. A great place to stay whilst working in the area and I know they are normally fully booked. Good look with the festival guests this weekend.

Very interesting property converted from several old cottages. A nice place to relax with good food options. Breakfast in particular was excellent. Large room with desk iron and ironing board, lots of thoughtful touches.

From check in to check out the whole experience was excellent. The room I was in was ideal for me, the bed was super comfortable and the homemade cookies were delicious. My evening meals were great, good choice and definitely value for money. The breakfast was perfect for me with a good selection of pastries and fruit etc and the cooked options were very tasty to get the day started. Every member of staff was super friendly and polite, I will 100% stay here again when I am in the area.

In all honesty I can't think of anything. For me, and only because the Olympics was on, I would like a bigger TV. Not a criticism, just a personal preference.

The staff were friendly and helpful, in particular Stella regarding managing the booking and Tucker on arrival and check-in, as I have mobility issues and use a walking stick he offered to carry our luggage to our room. There was also another guy being trained who was very helpful, but can't remember his name, sorry! The room, Tulip, was large as was the bathroom with a walk-in shower and a free-standing bath. My daughter stayed in Fleur de Lyse which was apparently very pretty. As most other reviewers have stated, the breakfast was excellent!

Nothing - a ground floor room would have been preferable but there was a wedding party at the hotel so none were available but this didn't affect our stay.

Very nice breakfast with cold choices and a cooked option. We were seated immediately in a nice breakfast room. The bedroom was very cosy and the bed was comfortable which was good as I have been getting backache at home! The room overlooked the lovely garden. Both the bedroom and bathroom were clean. All staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful which immediately makes you feel welcome.

There was no alternative milk available at breakfast but I hadn’t advised beforehand so that’s my fault but they did offer to get from the shop but it would have been an hour before the person got back to the hotel but the fact was they offered which was good.
