The Location is fantastic. Very close to the city centre and yet quiet. The room was small but the beds were very comfortable. The hotel and the room was clean. Housekeeping staff was very attentive and looking out for our needs.

Our room was next to the elevator, which caused a bit of noise. The common areas of the hotel are a bit dated, with worn carpets etc. And for me most annoying was the availability of the reception staff. They were just not there for check out and there was no bell or anything else to get their attention.

Fantastic location. Just feet away from the castle and minutes away from town centre on foot. NCP parking is next door to the hotel, which is great. You get discounted parking if you stay at the hotel. Grab a ticket from the machine, go and park. On booking out of the hotel, they give you a card to enter into the machine after you put your original ticket in, and you then get a discounted rate. 24 hours is £10.95 instead of £15.95 😊. Room 404 was a great size. Breakfast was really good , lots of choices to choose from. Well worth the £15 charge per person. We would definitely recommend this hotel. We will be back .

The tiny bottles of shower gel,shampoo/conditioner. Not enough for a couple of people staying the night. The little soaps smelt awful 😖. The shower head in 404 wouldn't stay facing you , it kept dropping towards the wall 🙄.

Coellie on front desk she was amazing, big smile, welcoming, accommodating and just a angel.night staff also were amazing aswrl.gentleman on the bar was bit rude but I'm guessing he has a hard life and just needs to work on customer interaction skills and manners. Overall staff wise this is what sets st james hotel above by far from all the other competition in town the staff are amazing words can't justify. The place was amazing for what it was in terms of a hotel and fa litres if the owners gave it a refers and had updated fresh look and nice walk in showers etc this place would be easily the best hotel with that kind of staff and a updated hotel to top it. I just found it a bit old,dark,dated and minimalistic and the the signal and air con wasn't great but I gotta say a big thankyou to the staff and will be staying g again just because of them omg collie was brilliant really made my birthday even better thankyou.

This hotel is in the perfect location, literally seconds away from the castle, easy walk to the shops, and plenty of nice places to eat nearby. The gentleman who greeted us on arrival was so welcoming, happy and helpful! Room was ready early, so we were able to check in, and what a delight it was! Clean, cool and little touches such as pillow spray to help us sleep, dressing gowns, slippers, bottled water, tea & Coffee with biscuits. We couldn't ask for more, esp with the price and location. We got much more than we expected! We were given the opportunity to upgrade our room online prior to arrival, and for £10 more, I am so glad we did! We even had the options of adding wine, chocolates, or a late checkout (we didn't need these, however it was great to know for future stays) We will definitely be booking a stay here again. The room was very nice with a decent amount of space and a nice relaxing area with a sofa and armchair. On the whole it was fairly quiet although late night revelry outside caused us to close windows at night (this may have been worse because of being on the side of the hotel adjacent to a multi storey car park). The hotel is well located for the castle and bars and restaurants and only a short stroll from the heart of the city. It is also good for the many buses that serve stops on Maid Marion Way.

Not much to fault but the lifts are a bit clunky and the breakfast (not included in the room rate) could have been a bit better.

The hotel was easy to find. Other reviews had warned about the parking so I knew what to expect there. The staff were very friendly and checked me in and out very quickly. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable.

The abundance of emails I had in advance of the trip. Firstly, it described the room as a "crash pad" when it was just a small double. For a moment I was worried that I'd somehow booked into a room with a futon and shared bathroom. The room description might be fun but it brought an unnecessary amount of anxiety. Then in the week up to the stay I had almost daily reminders to check in in advance which just isn't necessary. Plus there's the fact that they sent two emails every time, one to me directly, and one via booking.com. It was way too much contact.

Overall, I am very happy with the stay. Owen and the ladies who cleaned the rooms were very helpful and friendly. I stayed in a 'crash pad' (I think that's what it is called) and it was very good. It had an iron and an ironing board, a hairdryer, a TV, a kettle, a wall-mounted desk, a chair and a good-sized bed. Water pressure was great and they had left things like tea bags, hot chocolate sachets, biscuits, milk and bottles of water as well as small bottles of shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Rooms were cleaned regularly and things were replenished. The view was not good and the room could be bigger but I did not mind it that much. Also, the corridors could be a little cleaner although it was nothing major. A mirror inside the lifts would also be nice. Location is very good. It's about a 10-minute walk from the coach/train stations and the city centre. It's a couple of minutes away from the castle, the 'Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem' and the Robin Hood statue.

I liked it all. I liked the bath and shower( but didn’t use£; I liked the 2 gowns and slippers offered ( didn’t use); liked the safe, the still and sparkling water- a fridge would have been nice.Bed very comfortable; tv on pull out wall blanket great; wifi excellent, except one cannot access one’s banking apps ( security issues presumably- but was on 4th floor).Liked the space- kept being offered an upgrade at an extra cost, but seemed pointless as was no need- only difference I saw was a shower AND a bath- but I had both of them anyway. Left early am ; could have stayed longer to check out time, but had chilli plants in my car to get home. But all in all an excellent experience and would definitely use them again.

The bathroom waste bin would not open, so had to pick it up and put waste in. The toilet was far too close to the wall- kept knocking off the toilet paper holder, and it’s so close to the wall , one cannot sit on it properly. Instructions for the car park were also too weak, and had me driving around Nottingham in circles with its one way systems- that DID annoy me, but luckily I know Nottingham very well.

The location is perfect for the castle and city. It's so handy for the Castle pub and/or Fothergills (fantastic food). Reception staff were friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The room had windows that opened wide which was great to let some air in during the day. I really appreciated having a fan in the room as it was too noisy to keep the windows open during the night. Great shower and lovely big bath towels. The two packets of biscuits and bottled water were a nice surprise. The hotel's reserved car park is a 2 min walk away and costs £10 for 24 hours. There is very limited space and it's VERY tight! When we stay here again, we'll probably choose to park in the multi-story (St James's St car park). Overall, a lovely experience and I'd recommend this hotel.

The pillows weren't great. All 4 of them felt old and without any substance. .

The room was listed as standard but was really nicely decorated and well appointed. Great selection of teas, a bath which I love and spotlessly clean. Comfortable bed and relatively quiet. If it had air conditioning I'd stay again in the summer but not until. Fan in the room helped but fighting a losing battle.

The sheer number of spam emails sent by the hotel before I arrived. 15 emails 8 of which were identical giving the same information. One attempting to get me to pay for an upgrade and then repeated demands for me to check in on line. I had added a special request to my booking and not one email told me whether the request was possible or not. Lazy use of automated systems and gave such a poor first impression I nearly cancelled.
