A warm welcome from the landlord and all the staff. An excellent comfortable room with a four poster bed and tea/coffee making facilities. Dining in the bar area or in the breakfast room - both nicely appointed and the inn has great character. The food is good quality pub-food, freshly cooked and in generous portions. A good size car park. The X93 and X94 buses to Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby stop very close to the inn which is convenient.
One evening our dinner order didn't get to the kitchen in a very timely manner so it was a long wait but the staff were most apologetic and it was a genuine mistake. I am coeliac so must eat gluten free and the staff made all efforts to accommodate this. Gluten-free toast was available at breakfast but there was no gluten free cereal - (I took my own on days 2 and 3). Although the car park is excellent, visitors do need to be careful driving in and out as the inn is on a bend in the road.

A very friendly pub with nice staff. Evening meals were excellent quality and value. Breakfasts were good if not exceptional. It's on a regular bus route (even Sundays) which serves most places between Whitby and Scarborough (with connections to further afield). Close to the Cleveland Way footpath and the Cinder Track which is a tarmacked old railway, great for cycling and walking along. A bottle of water and biscuits every day provided in the room.
Not much. The upstairs rooms are up a tricky staircase so if you are not too mobile it might be worth asking for a downstairs room. The road is busy but with secondary double glazing it's not too noisy.

Food was great. Room was clean and tidy. Staff friendly and polite. Outside seating area is lovely, nice sun trap to enjoy a drink.
Dinning and breakfast room was a little snug. Felt a little enclosed without much privacy to chat. Curtains in the room didn't close fully and the outside light was left on all night so the bright light shone through. Room was hot but couldn't have the window open due to outside light attracting bugs (huge moths). We were disturbed intermittently by a noise that sounding like a fan, extractor or boiler firing up which droned through the walls. During the day, the room looked out onto the patio area and if you had the window open, you get the smell of cigarettes and if you have the bathroom window open you get the smell of greasy food cooking. This definitely is a shame because the place is lovely.

This Inn had such a nostalgic feeling to it that I have been craving but has been hard to find as everyone these days seems to renovate things to tasteless modern standards. Elements from all the decades of life of this place are lovingly preserved. I also LOVED how much this place seems to be plugged into the local community, lots of folks in the pub, locals working the restaurant and chatting. I adored it. A very authentic experience. Ample and roomy parking. Dinner was so lovely I was thrilled I was able to order mushrooms on toast! The room and bathroom was nice and big too. My favourite place I stayed this week!

Lovely staff, very helpful and friendly. Very clean in all areas, well decorated and maintained. Nice and warm on a very cold NYE! The room was excellent; spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Loads of storage and a very comfy bed. We ate breakfast and dinner there for two days. Breakfast was served at the table and was the best we've had (in any hotel) in a long time! There was plenty of choice for dinner and the food was freshly cooked and excellent.
Nothing really. Some hooks to hang damp coats, maybe on the back of the room door, would have been useful.

Third time staying here, best asset is the excellent staff. Quite dated property but very clean and good food. Room five had a barely functioning shower which was a little inconvenient. Staff are helpful, friendly, efficient and nothing was too much trouble for them. Liked the new outside seating area and having stayed previously in the newer accommodation block I would recommend staying in those rooms. We will certainly return as location is great for coastal resorts.

This is our second year staying here and it doesn't disappoint. The rooms are amazing, modern and clean. The staff are very friendly, The bar man especially. Breakfast is extremely good. The full English is especially good. We had a meal in the restaurant and was served very promptly and by friendly staff. Would definatly recommend the sea bass and the steak pie. Parking is good and it is in a lovely quiet village. Easy access to scarborough.

Our room (a small twin bedded) in the 'outside block' with its entrance 'lobby', excellent en-suite bathroom, the attractive dining areas in the pub itself (complete with gleaming copper & brass!), the excellent evening meals which included plain, fresh vegetables served in a side dish, the spacious car park... the friendly staff.
Not really a dislike - but a little more choice on the breakfast menu would have been good. For example, some more fruit or porridge! Exiting the car park was rather tricky as the exit was on to a pretty busy road.

We had two breakfasts and an evening meal during our stay. The restaurant was a little bit "too cosy" for our liking and if it was possible for the property to utilise their other dining / bar areas that would improve things. Having said that the quality and presentation of the food was very good. We had a quiet room at the back of the hotel, the four poster bed was very comfortable but I don't think a 13.5 TOG quilt is needed, even in the cold weather during our stay.
The bathroom was functional but the water pressure was on the low side for the shower.

Very good breakfast and exceelent dinners.
There are no facilities for storing either toiletries or used towels in the ensuite room. As a result, the toels can not be dried after a shower. Also, the drain to the shower pan was almost blocked. Finally, the TV remote was unreeliable, sometimes it worked, sometimes not, even after fitting new batteries. The battery cover was broken and so would not stay in place.
