Room was nicely furnished Restaurant was good Spa nice

Check in 3pm and we had to check out at 11.00 which was poor. Not even 24 hours. Also we were promised that reception would call us when room was ready but they didn’t. We felt they didn’t bend over backwards to give us the room and as check out was at 11.00 the room could have been prioritised. We arrived at midday and went out as room wasn’t prepared. Also next morning at 11.00 sharp the key wouldn’t work. Just for this type of hotel we felt it was pushy, like a one in, one out regime. Not that welcoming! Omboo restaurant staff excellent. Also no board games which was a shame.

Gorgeous hotel set in beautiful grounds, with stunning interior design, truly luxurious hotel! Dined in the brasserie and it was a fantastic experience, the food was 10/10, service 10/10, all round perfection! Lovely spa, visited during a heatwave and the indoor pool was a bit like a overheated greenhouse, but I imagine in normal weather its more comfortable. Would stay here again in a heartbeat if in town (and without our dog)

Sadly not dog friendly which does limit the time(s) we would go here and we would look to other hotels around that accept dogs. We did stay for our wedding anniversary and it's a shame that this was not acknowledged at all (it was noted when asked both via room and restaurant booking if we were there for any reason). This isn't really a fault, maybe more something we've been spoilt with from other hotels in the past.

We loved the room, decor, level of service and the gym and classes, attention has been paid to every detail and it really shows. Each restaurant and room has been carefully and tastefully designed, and the level of service makes the whole hotel feel like a place to really unwind. The food standard in both restaurants was exceptional as well, especially Omboo, and there were plenty of vegan options at all meals, including breakfast which is where many hotels don't put the effort in.

Having to pay extra for the spa garden, at £120 per person is steep, this really should be included, or at least with some timed entry during the stay. There is limited water in the main spa area as well, with only one fountain that ran warm.

Hotel is beautiful with excellent facilities and feels very comfortable, spacious and with lots of lovely sitting areas. Very nice terrace outside the bistro and lovely grounds. I visited the spa- the included one, on a Saturday morning. It’s large, very good steam and sauna, large pool and has the added bonus of some sun beds outside in the sun. It wasn’t busy and was very enjoyable. My husband had a medical problem and the staff could not have been more helpful. In fact the staff really made our trip. Bathrobes and slippers are included, so you can walk around and feel comfortable. Excellent shower in the bathroom and our room was very quiet. Breakfast was busy but plenty of choice. You can order an omelette if you like instead of self service.

It’s a bit out of the way, you couldn’t really walk along the busy country lane to get to St Albans. We had a Plush room, very small, no fridge or turn down service. Although we did have lovely country side views. A bit pricey for the size of the room and the location.

We visited for our anniversary and the staff were all exceptional, so many of them went out of their way to wish us happy anniversary and they had put some lovely little touches in our room. We arrived at midday as we'd seen we could use the spa facilities from then, before checking in time at 3pm. Luckily our room was already ready so we got to settle in, wander around the grounds and explore before heading to the spa. We had lunch at the Conservatory which was nice and simple and dinner at Omboo which was great, a really lovely atmosphere and deliciously flavoured food. We also had some cocktails at the Octagon bar which was cosy and relaxed. We stayed in a chic room in the main house which was a nice size, very comfortable and quiet with views over the grounds. There was a good selection at breakfast, the scrambled eggs were incredible! Although I'd advise getting there before 9am as it got a lot busier after this time.

We stayed on a Saturday and didn't have access to The Club at Cottommill which was fine by us. Cottonmill though did get busy after 3pm and there was no seating around the pool area available after this time. Also there were limited vegetarian options available for lunch and dinner at the restaurants, which is why we chose to eat at Omboo which had more selection. The Brasserie only has 2 mains options, one being a burger and the other seemed pretty unusual so something to consider if you don't eat meat or fish.

Food in the brasserie could be a little more high quality or rosette. Blackberries with the duck very gritty seedy try passing it through a sieve. The club at cotten Mill doesn't warrant an upgrade of £120 per person. Breakfast could offer more variety such as crushed avocado & poached egg, pancakes

Lovely hotel for a city escape. Tastefully decorated rooms, delicious breakfast, wonderful spa, friendly staff, lovely grounds. REALLY good gym. The entire property is lovely. Really easy to get to from London using the train, and a nice 30 min walk from the station or a short bus.

All was good. Only note is that there's two spas inside the property, the more luxury one is paid for (over £100) OR you need to book the expensive suites to get access to it. The open to all spa is nice enough (like a normal hotel spa). I didn't get to visit the more luxury one.

Old exterior and nice grounds with a nice, colourful modern interior. The bedroom was lovely. Large bed, very clean, nice bathrooms facilities. A/C worked properly which is always important. Nice on site restaurant that does taste Asian inspired fare. Staff were lovely.

The room rate isn’t cheap. And we paid for 2 massages. Despite all this, we weren’t allowed to use the outdoor pool facilities. Seems very tight given the expenditure we put in as guests.

Our room was of a good size, nicely decorated, clean and well equipped. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept very well. The staff are very attentive and when things weren't quite right (with our breakfast order), they were corrected very quickly. Room service was particularly good, much shorter wait times compared to any other hotel I've stayed at. Dinner at the brasserie was top notch. On the first day we used the Cottonmill spa with access provided as part of the room package...again these were excellent, but on our checkout day, we upgraded to the Club spa facilities - which are simply world class. Already looking at deals to come back later in the year - Sopwell is a gem.

What's not to like about Sopwell? I'd struggle to criticise it...ok, one thing, at a push I'd say the music used in the spa...well sometimes it's quite melancholic and occasionally bizarre. Spa music should be a bit more neutral and soothing! But honestly, that is just nit picking!!!

Rooms were fantastic, loved the interior design of everything. Perfect bathroom and lighting in the room. Great provision for plug sockets.

The signage in the hotel is poor and confusing, every floor says RECEPTION! The passage on the ground floor with ramp is completely inadequate, should have been widened. I was disappointed that my room did not give me access to the Club at Cottonmill. I feel that the booking did not make it clear that you could not access this spa. The photos of this spa was what made me want to book a spa treatment in the first place, and try the hotel.
