The communication about access and facilities was sent via email and was clear and accurate. The room was as described - roomy, with a comfortable bed, smallish (by todays standards) flat screen TV and tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Additional tea, coffee and chocolate were available from the small shared kitchen facility as were extra mugs, glasses etc. The en-suite shower room was roomy and the water was hot. Everythng worked as it should and we did not have any issues during our stay. Our room was on the ground floor with a large window overlooking the grounds and didn't have any curtains. We quickly established there were very substantial wooden shutters, carefully hidden in the window frames, which were good for privacy and keeping out unwanted light. As we were there in July we didn't need any heating but there seemed to be adequate radiators, which would be necessary in winter as the room was large with high ceilings. There is adequate hanging space in a wardrobe and several large drawers for other storage.

The room was on the ground floor, adjacent to the entrance to the hotel. Although we didn't experience any issues with this, less considerate guests could cause intrusive noise if they weren't careful with opening and closing doors. There were signs asking guests to be aware and minimise noise and the issue is quite common in many hotels, but it is something to be aware of. A couple of easy chairs or a sofa would have been nice in the room. There were two high back chairs that were reasonably comfortable but apart from them the only place to relax was on the bed. Finally, the shower was relatively small for the size of the bathroom and a larger one with some rails or a seat would be better for more elderly guests.

Room and ensuite were very clean and quiet and table now provided for sponge bags. Cotton sheets and towels very nice quality. Spacious room with mini fridge. Kitchenette useful and adequately equipped. Location and parking were perfect. Nice that we could leave the car there on arrival and also until ready to leave. Good lighting outside made it feel safe at night. We like this property as it's easy and convenient. Plenty of tea and coffee supplied and appreciate the arm chairs-2 now :)

Nowhere in the room to hang full-length coats/dresses-only a half-height wardrobe. We had to put our cases on the floor so you either had to pack unpack everything into the small wardrobe or fetch things at floor level. Case racks would be really useful. This hasn't changed in 2 years. These comments are intended to be helpful.

Great location, comfortable room and good facilities

Surprised to find that the room was on the 2nd floor with no lift - quite a challenge getting luggage up there - I really think this needs to be highlighted, if we had been less than fit, we would have struggled (more than we did) getting luggage up there. Also, the room lacked a chair and desk - there was plenty of space for this. And could REALLY use some shelving in the bathroom, most of our stuff had to live on the floor. Perhaps the owners should try living in the rooms for a week !

Messages from the host prior to arrival were very detailed and helpful with information about how to access the property and then the room keys, and also about the parking facilities on site. Our room ‘St Albans’ was on the second floor and had a lovely view of St Albans cathedral. The room was a perfect temperature and felt snuggly and warm even though it was very cold outside. The bed was very comfortable. The shower was really good and powerful. The shared kitchenette on the first floor was very useful too. The location of Torrington Hall is perfect for exploring St Albans, located in the heart of the city. It is also well located for both train stations, only a short walk from the property to St Albans City train station.

There wasn’t anything to not like.

We had a lovely time in st albans and a lovely stay at torrington hall, there were a few issues the milk was sorted not enough pillows but we probably asked for some extra, the shower was very loose on the wall thought it was going to fall off the over head shower would not stop dripping we reported it twice but no-one came to fix it so was a bit disappointed as it was very annoying at night not very good service help really some people would say you’ve got our money so thats it overall a good stay but would ask about these bits before we came back again

Convenience, location, use of car parking for 24 hours, cleanliness, warmth, comfortable bed, two comfortable chairs, having a fridge, bedside tables and lamps, having 2 hand towels + 2 bath towels, well stocked tea/coffee tray (plus chocolate - a nice thought! Very handy to have the use of a kitchen, though not required on this occasion. House looked very festive with a tree and decorations!

Lack of shelf or somewhere in shower room to put toiletry bags. Some light fittings had missing lamps! Due to location by a busy road, it was rather noisy, so that can affect where one chooses to stay! Carrying bags up two flights of stairs - not so convenient for older people.

Easy to access and room is as described. Clean bedding & towels with a mini fridge & tea / coffee facilities in the room as well. WiFi worked well as I was able to watch a programme through the IPad.

The room I was in was on the ground floor and could have done with some kind of net curtain as I had to have the slats closed all the time or people could see straight in - there are not hoards of people passing, but I wasn't comfortable leaving them open.

The instructions sent through are really easy to follow. Once there, the procedure is very straightforward. I have stayed at Torrington Hall a few times now because of work, and will stay again when I'm working in the area. Great location, parking on site. Very clean!

There is nothing specific i didn't like at all, as explained in an earlier comment, great location, very clean, very comfortable, and great that you can park on site too.

Great location for walking access to St-Albans town centre. Excellent on-site parking. Easy to get into property. Huge room, comfy bed and powerful shower.

Given the size of the room and the strength of the shower, the shower cubicle could possibly do with being a bit larger. People walking up the iron staircase behind the building could maybe see into the bathroom as the top window pane by the shower seemed to be normal glass rather frosted.

I had booked several rooms for family members because we had a wedding nearby, and I was allowed to use one of the conference rooms in order for us all to eat breakfast together, which was kind. The rooms are very nice, with really comfortable beds and beautifully clean bathrooms. There are one or two minor maintenance items which are no doubt on their list of things to do, but nothing that spoiled our stay. It suited us perfectly, with plenty of parking on site and very close to all the shops and restaurants of St Albans.

My only quibbles are very minor ones - the ipad on which you are supposed to register your car details wasn't working, which we discovered after several frustrating attempts! I hadn't realised in advance that there was someone actually living in at least one of the other rooms - one of the kitchenettes was full of someone's food, washing-up etc. And it's a shame that they don't tidy up the land around the house - the house itself is an imposing Victorian building, with well-equipped rooms but the outside seems a bit sad. However there was nothing that spoiled our stay, and we would happily stay here again.
