Wonderful guesthouse with everything you could possibly want for a special time in the Lake District! I had an amazing time. The room is spacious, super comfortable and light-filled with a gorgeous view of the mountains and lake Windermere! A highlight for me was the bathroom and luxurious tub which was perfect for soaking in after a big day hiking. The location is great - I visited several towns in the area and liked Windermere the best - it is cute and relaxed with easy access to lovely walks and the lake. Anita and Denis were fantastic hosts - they accommodated my dietary needs at late notice, serving up three delicious breakfasts which fuelled my Lakes adventures each day. They are also just super lovely people who make you feel at home! I would stay again in a heartbeat! Thanks Anita and Denis :-)

Great location being close to the centre of Windermere and also easy access to some scenic walks close by to the summit at Orrest Head and also to lake Windermere. Guest house had lots of charm and felt very homely. Our room had lovely views and was spotlessly clean. The bathroom was very modern with a big walk in rain shower. The owners, Anita and Denis, were very welcoming and lovely people. We mentioned it was our wedding anniversary and when we returned to our room that night they had left us a lovely surprise gift from them both, what a lovely touch from them. Excellent breakfast, lots of choice …. freshly cooked and great service. So much to like about our stay that we will definitely be returning

Anita and Denis were fantastic hosts and made us feel very welcome as soon as we arrived, and throughout our stay. The room was very clean and well presented and we had a lovely view of lake Windermere from our window. We got a delicious slide of banana cake when we arrived which was a nice touch! The breakfast was also wonderful. We had the Caribbean breakfast both mornings because it was so good! It was fantastic value for money and would highly recommend staying at Archway guest house if you're planning a trip to the Lake District.

Such a fabulous place .Amazing location .Anita and her family are so welcoming ,helpful and so friendly .All the little extra touches are lovely .Including birthday banners ,balloons treats for my husbands 50th .Delicious chocolate Easter bunnies 🐰 on our breakfast table .Breakfast is absolutely delicious and such lovely choices .Fresh fruit cereals yoghurt’s cooked omelettes even salt fish 🐠 etc etc .Truly yummy .Our room was so cosy with beautiful views .The bath beautiful looking at the sky .We’ve loved it .

Not being able to stay longer

The cooked breakfast was good with a several choices together with fruit, cereal & yogurt. Quiet location with a lovely view and a short walk to the town or a lovely 25 min woodland walk to Bowness. Thank you Anita for recommending the museum on the lake for a walk & lunch. Well thought-out bedroom & fabulous en-suite bathroom = a very pleasant stay. Oh and home made cake when we arrived was unexpected and delicious!

Very lucky to park our car outside the property in the street (felt very safe) but parking close might've been difficult otherwise. Must pre-order breakfast the night before, which whilst I understand, would've preferred to decide in the morning.

Great location - a quite guesthouse conveniently located within quick walking distance of the train station. There are plenty of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants within walking distance too. There are good transport options and we were able to catch a cheap bus to Grasmere nearby. The hosts were very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable - they gave us great recommendations for where to go, what to do and where to get the bus from, there was a book of recommendations for the local area in the room, and there were plenty of maps and leaflets advertising what to do in the area - including bus timetables. The room was clean and well appointed with a nice big fan for the warmer days and refreshments available in the room. Would definitely recommend for a short romantic stay for couples.

There was nothing wrong, only that our stay was too short.

The host was very nice and friendly. She provided amazing recommendation on the local restaurants and attractions. Breakfast was very delicious and freshly homemade on the day. I would recommend trying the Caribbean breakfast, which can't be found anywhere else in the region. I would also definitely consider staying here for my next visit to Windermere.

Sound insulation wasn't that good. But I guess there isn't much one can do to an old house like this.

Absolutely loved the place. Denis and Anita are wonderful hosts and made me feel right at home. They are very knowledgeable about the area and offered terrific recommendations for making the most of my short stay. Room is a good size with a lovely view and excellent bed, it also features many little touches that add special charm and character. The bathroom was immaculate and very spacious. No issues with TV or Wifi, all facilities were in good working order. Breakfast was superb, prepared with quality ingredients and lots of choice on offer. I highly recommend the Caribbean breakfast!

Not a single thing, all my expectations were exceeded.

Perfect location for travelling around the lakes with excellent transport system, and hosts who were very knowledgeable about the area and could provide you with local information on a range of matters. Professionally run guesthouse with an abundance of warmth and generosity of spirit - the perfect hosts in every way! And the Caribbean breakfast, with Dennis' homemade sauce handed down by his beloved Grandma, is an absolute must!

We would struggle to find anything at all that we did not like about the Archway Guesthouse!

Without a doubt, we wholeheartedly recommend the Archway Guest House to anyone seeking accommodation in Windemere and the captivating Lake District From the moment we made an unexpected change to our travel plans due to inclement weather in the north of England (cancelling all trains), Denis and Anita went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. Upon our arrival a couple weeks later than originally planned, we were warmly greeted and ushered into a generously spacious room with a delightful ensuite. The view from our window was nothing short of breathtaking, as it opened up to the majestic mountains, creating an idyllic backdrop for our stay. Denis and Anita not only provided us with superb lodging but also offered fantastic recommendations for dining options in the area, enhancing our overall experience. The wide range of activities available in the vicinity only adds to the appeal of this guest house. The breakfast selections were both scrumptious and abundant, and I must emphasize trying Denis' extraordinary Caribbean breakfast if the opportunity arises; his culinary skills are truly remarkable! The location of the accommodation is convenient, just a 30-minute walk from where the cruise ferries are stationed, which can be done via a leisurely stroll through the picturesque forest and is a delightful journey in itself. We hope to make a return trip sometime in the future and with Denis and Anita's hospitality leaving a lasting impression on us, we will definitely look to book our stay with them.
