The hotel’s fantastic location near the rail and bus stations made traveling to other towns in the Lake District incredibly convenient. We had informed the hotel of our vegan preference when booking, and to our delight, the vegan breakfast exceeded our expectations—it was of outstanding quality and absolutely delicious! The hotel's restaurant also offered a tasty and great-value vegan dish, which we enjoyed so much that we dined there three times during our six-night stay. We are truly grateful for such a wonderful experience. (The facilities matched exactly what was shown in the photos on the website. I was pleasantly surprised by our vegan dining experience, so I’ve attached the photo to share it!)

The hotel has a unique setup without a traditional front desk. Upon entering, we found a charming bar and restaurant. We took a few minutes to explore the hotel, and when we spoke to the host at the bar, the check-in process was quick and easy.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The location is absolutely perfect – 5 min walk to train station, quite close to all main attractions, but still quiet and nice. The room was spotless and well-maintained. The whole hotel has a cozy, unique atmosphere that made the experience feel special and personal. What really stood out, though, was the staff. Every single person we interacted with was genuinely lovely – warm, helpful, and incredibly kind. They made us feel truly welcome, which added so much to our overall experience. Highly recommended, and I’d happily stay here again!

Fantastic location in beautiful Windermere; just a couple of minutes walk from the train station. We had a fantastic evening meal in the well stocked bar area; I had a fab vegan aubergine and walnut lasagne and my sister had the fish and chips which she said was delicious. The apple crumble for dessert was also fantastic! Lovely breakfast with plenty of coffee with fruit juices and cereals also available. The lady who runs the hotel is exceptionally helpful, friendly and an absolute delight; all the staff are wonderful. Can highly recommend The Elleray!

Ideal location for our weekend trip. We stopped elsewhere (Bowness) en-route for lunch and a wander then parked at the train station which is a 2min walk from the hotel. Be aware the parking for overnight needs to be paid as 2 days. We thought 1 day would be 24hrs but it appears not! Checked in smoothly. The room was ideal and had everything we needed for 2 people. Sat in the downstairs bar area in the evening which was reassuringly busy but not rowdy, felt very much like a local with no large groups that you might have expected at weekends from tourists etc... Good music but not too loud, got served quickly and found a nice spot to sit near the fireplace. Ordered soup which was delicious and home made. Had a good undisturbed sleep and fast fabulous service for breakfast which was all you could ask for. I would definitely stay here again. Travelled with a friend for a girly weekend away. We planned to take a good walk on the Sunday morning and discovered the start and end point for the Orrest Head walk it just over the road from the train station too. Perfect!

There was really loud regular banging that sounded like a heavy slamming door that went on constantly in the later afternoon/early evening when we were trying to have a nap. It probably was a fire door which makes sense and it was during the daytime so can't really complain but it was very distracting and very frequent. It didn't disturb me at the night time thankfully.

Stayed for 2 nights over Easter Bank Holiday and we had a lovely stay! Got there early and we were allowed to leave our bags. When we arrived back around early evening we found our bags had been taken up to our room for us. The room was great and really clean, just what we needed for our 2 night stay! Breakfast was 9-10 so not too early and we pre booked and had lots to choose from a very good menu that catered for gluten free too! Coffee, tea, juice, cereal and toast were also all included too. Really friendly staff that were always happy to help! We didn’t have chance to eat here but the food looked fantastic! We did have a drink in the beer garden which was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Lots of seating with shade/shelter, nice raised beds around the edges and an olive tree in the centre! Hotel just round the corner from the station and bus stop. A brilliant stay overall at The Elleray on a beautiful, sunny and very busy Easter Bank Holiday Weekend! Thank you so much :)

First stay at The Elleray as our usual place we stay in Bowness has increased it's prices to over £200 per night. The location is great with easy access to the pubs and restaurants in Windermere but also really convenient for the Bus and rail station. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the room was very clean and bright. Overall excellent value for money.

Everything was great but do your research as free parking in the area is limited - staff will help if you ring them before your visit.

Great location in the heart of Windermere. Staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. Breakfast was hearty and lots of options including catering brilliantly for my vegan diet. Had an evening meal too which was served in the comfortable and spacious bar

Could maybe do with a spruce up and cleaning in the hallways and landing but this is probably only to be expected due to the age of the hotel and the fact there are a lot of muddy boots and paws staying there.

It was a lovely and inviting place. We felt a nice sense of comfort with the staff and owners. The whole first floor was the pub and eating area. Very comfortable there plus we had nice enough weather to use the beer garden. Our room was quite spacious and very comfortable. And the location of the Elleray was just steps away from the station. Friendly staff, I had asked for an early check in which was organised no problem. It was just an overnight stay which was comfortable, bed was very comfy with plenty of pillows available. Good spacious room. Breakfast was delicious, I had a full Cumbrian but there is also cereal available so you can really fuel up for the day! Good location, right in the centre of Windermere and close to railway station.

I had to order my breakfast the night before, I kind of understand the reason why but would have preferred to choose on the morning.
