Perfect location, nearer to Windermere but not central so nice and quiet. The staff were perfect, a busy bank holiday weekend and the staff still took their time with our service. Free parking. Rooms were immaculate, such a gorgeous bathroom. Breakfast menu was extensive and tasty. All ‘extra’ charges clearly defined

No lift in the property meant that the stairs were a bit tiring. Apart from that, no issues.

We spent three nights and we were in room 17. It is a very large room with a big double bed, plenty of space around the bed, a nice dressing table area and a lovely tiled bathroom. The bathroom had a double spa bath, which was great as you could watch the TV built in at the end of the bath as well. The bar area was very chic and full of comfortable seating areas. The breakfast area was equally as impressive as it overlooked from a high high vantage point the local park and scenery which would be great at any time of the year. The breakfasts were excellent (good work Chef!) and it was nice to see a personal service to our table instead of the typical à la carte used by many other hotels. Ample parking on site and free of charge. It was an easy walk into a town where you could find an array of restaurants and bars as well as local shops, and it was a longer walk of around 20 to 25 minutes into Bowness and to see the facilities and shops and attractions on offer down at Lake Windermere. In addition we were able to reach by car within 30 minutes the towns of Ambleside and further on Grassmere where we would also recommend people take a look.

This is a really nice hotel with the main building maintaining plenty of character with some original features kept. The hotel would have got top scores across the board but for the 1st room we booked in the main hotel being really small, clean and tidy and comfortable but really small. We were fortunate enough to be able to pay an upgrade fee half way through our weeks stay and move across the road to one of the hot tub suites on offer at this hotel. The extra room and the hot tub were much needed therapy for my arthritis !! The staff were very helpful and accommodating in arranging this for us and were overall excellent in the way in which they conducted themselves and went about they're day to day business. The room service was excellent too with the room (and later the suite) being cleaned every day to a very high standard. The hotel also houses a very nice and friendly bar area which I found very relaxing with great service. Although we eat out every night of our stay in Windermere at the many eateries Windermere has to offer on the high street just a 2 minute walk from the hotel, the restaurant was lovely and did serve up a wonderful selection of food for breakfast and everything cooked to a very high standard. One of the main things my partner and I needed from this weeks break was to have a nice relaxing, stress free week away from our every day life and re charge the batteries so to speak. This hotel and the overall experience provided from the staff gave us exactly that and was everything we needed from this break. Will definitely be looking to return in the not too distant future to this hotel and fully book the hot tub suite next time.

The 1st room being really small as mentioned above

Lovely old building with stained glass windows and wooden panelling which is well maintained with tasteful new decor and furnishings. The room was spacious with a separate sitting area. A good breakfast was included with plenty of choice. On site parking is available.

Only suggestions as we were very happy with our stay. It would have been better to have the TV in the sitting area rather than the bedroom as we had to sit on the bed to watch TV when there was a separate sitting area which would have been a better location. There wasn’t much drawer space which is a shame as there was plenty of room for a small set of drawers or a shelf within the wardrobe. There was plenty of hanging space in the wardrobe.

The hotel was beautiful. Room was great, nicely decorated & the bed was so comfy. The staff were all very pleasant, nice, friendly, helpful, curtious and polite. A special mention to Ella who served us at breakfast. She was very welcoming with a smiling face and ensured we had what we needed and ordered. The breakfast actually was excellent, really set us up for the day ahead. Everybody we came into contact with staff wise at hotel was very professional.

Only negative comment was the lack of a plug socket near any of the mirrors to dry/do hair. Apart from this the room was extremely cosy comfortable and beautifully decorated.

Just returned from a lovely chilled weekend at the Applegarth. We had the Popper Hot Tub suite which is modern, spacious and comfortable. The bathroom is massive which included walk in shower, large bath including a TV screen. Bedroom area also spacious with a sep small lounge area. Mood light setting options throughout. The hot tub area is completely private with a patio garden area which would be lovely in the summer. Breakfast excellent various options all served by the welcoming staff. Ideal location at the top end of Windermere which allows for a nice walk down to Bo'ness end. All in all a nice weekend break. Would recommend.

Only one small gripe was the cocktail I had. Didn't think this was of standard to charge 12quid in comparison to the cocktails made elsewhere for the same cost but we did go during happy hour but tasted pre made rather than a fresh mojito.

Beautiful surroundings and fabulous decor. A very comfortable bed! Facilities included an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, kettle, bottle of water and a selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the room. Great selection of food and staff were professional and friendly. Easy access to shops, restaurants, walks to the lakes, buses, train station and tourist information.

The milk in the room didn't taste good. We purchased our own as we didn't want to bother the staff and we were out of the hotel for most of the day.

The property was beautiful in a reserved old building style. The breakfast room/dining room was gorgeous and the furnishings were stunning. Staff were lovely. It was just a few hundred metres to the Windermere strip shops, had private off road parking and the £3pp each way bus to Bowness where the lake cruises leave from was only a couple of hundred metres away. Breakfast was great and the staff very helpful with the luggage.

A lift would be fantastic but retro/fitting old buildings is not possible.

Loved the decor very high spec fixtures and furnishings. very comfortable throughout the restaurant and lounge areas friendly obliging owner's and staff . It's hard to find fault . Breakfast was exceptional, plenty of choice food of a very high standard, all cooked to order . Our room was slightly smaller than anticipated but still very comfortable. I would definitely recommend Applegarth Villa Hotel and look forward to returning for another stay.

We had superior room 14. The bed was huge with good quality pillows and bedding. Lovely bathroom with powerful shower over a very large bath. Breakfast was great and served to you at your table- no queuing at a buffet station! Very comfortable bar area with a wide range of drinks including cocktails. A range of shops, bars and restaurants in the vicinity but a much larger selection by the lake which was about a mile.

Nothing to dislike.
