Cragwood was our first stop on a two week road trip, and we stayed three nights. It proved to be a great choice. Really well located with garden views across Windermere, the hotel was comfortable, friendly and a great spot to tour from. Our room was well-appointed though perhaps not as stylish as the beautiful hotel exterior might suggest. All of the staff were helpful and friendly, though we must give special mention to Daniel who looked after us in the bar (say no more) and the restaurant. If you do stay here, be sure to book the restaurant as it gets justifiably busy at peak times. The menu is limited, but quality and presentation is high, and the wine list works well with the food. Great value fine dining. Of course, you can also get food served in the extensive lounge area if the relatively small restaurant is busy. If you are looking for a good value spot in the Lake District, where often prices move ahead of the quality, then we can thoroughly recommend Cragwood.

We stayed on Tuesday 6th Feb for one night wished it could have been for longer ,it was amazing we were upgraded to the four poster room ,the decor was outstanding, the bed was Huge and very comfortable as were the pillows, tea coffee and hot chocolate provided plus bottled water biscuits and sweets , the bathroom was also excellent with beautiful fluffy towels and face clothes plus lovely toiletries, the staff were very helpful and friendly ,our only disappointment was breakfast ie lack of variety of breads ,food wasn't very hot ,grilled tomato hardly cooked at all and fried egg over cooked , the grounds, garden ect were beautifully maintained and the walk down to the lake not to be missed , we would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends ,and will without doubt visit again .many thanks .

Beautiful building in a fantastic location.

1. Limited views of the lake. 2. Dogs allowed in eating areas. For us this is a hygiene problem. Other people may well love their dogs, but we don’t have to and cannot see any reason why dogs should be brought into eating areas (such as the breakfast room). 3. An automatic addition of service charges without asking us. This is little more than an extra tariff and as such should be included in the room rate quoted at the time of booking.

Room was absolutely stunning with clean, fresh decor, a giant 4-poster bed, seating and and a vanity unit. Original stone walls and windows gave it character, but were well maintained. The views from our window of the lake made being in the room enjoyable and relaxing. We loved the dimmer switch lighting which created a very relaxed atmosphere Staff were courteous and friendly, escorting us personally to our room and checking all was ok before he left. They were all smartly dressed and well groomed. Breakfast was enjoyable, cooked to order, plenty of choice for cooked items as well as cereals, pastries, juice and spreads.

The room was a little on the cold side, even though the radiator was on, probably due to being such a large room with stone walling, so we needed to use the additional portable radiator.

Lovely warm welcome on arrival. Facilities and location of dining room explained to us. We had a ground floor room which had double doors leading to the garden and a small patio with 2 chairs. Spacious and warm bedroom, comfortable bed and pillows. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Nice drink in the bar before dinner sat by a log fire - lovely. We had dinner in the restaurant which was delicious and the presentation and service was faultless. I was very impressed with the attention paid to my allergies. Delicious breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and also haddock and poached eggs. We will definitely return.

I can’t really think of anything negative. Perhaps the breakfast room felt a bit bland compared to other areas of the hotel

Staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. The room, although not an accessible room was large and had a lovely garden view. Breakfast was absolutely delicious….and freshly cooked to order. The meal we had in the bar was also delicious, and served with a smile. The room had plenty tea and coffee, bottled water and as an extra, a jar of boiled sweets. The drawers contained lots of extras such as a sewing kit.

To get to the bar we had to negotiate a steep flights of stairs, and walk right round the floor, then down another steep flight, which is difficult when one guest has mobility issues. We did have the option to walk right round the outside of the hotel which was flat, but as it was pouring, that wasn’t an option. The bathroom although beautiful ,would benefit from a grab rail in the bath…just as as safety measure. It would not be needed by everyone but would help some people get up from the bath or give them something to hold on to when getting out of the shower.

Our stay was only one night but it was a perfect end to a family weekend. Everything that we had requested; a crib and one of the rooms to be on the ground floor because of one of our party struggling with stairs , was done without any additional conversation or hesitation. We were greeted by friendly and helpful staff. We were informed on arrival that it was busy so to book dinner or to get bar food but to be conscious of the time; all of which helped us plan our evening. If you want old school English country charm and beautiful views and gardens then I would highly recommend it.

Spectacular English estate in an area that is astoundingly beautiful. The grounds of Cragwood are stunning! You can walk straight down to the lake and take in the surrounding countryside. It's so peaceful. Really comfy room which was a good size. Our ground floor room opened up onto a lovely little sitting area with gardens outside. The food we had for dinner was exquisite and breakfast was also great. Could have easily stayed there for a week. Staff were really happy, helpful and very obliging. We were blessed with fabulous weather too. Amazing stay! Highly recommend!

I didn't like that we only stayed 1 night 😃

A very beautiful country house in the perfect lakeside location. Lots of cosy spaces to relax with 3 large rooms having log fires. Large patios outside for nicer weather days. We chose a four poster bed room and it was huge. Very comfy bed.

We did want to change at least one of our days due to having to travel during storm Éowen and severe weather warnings were in place. We wasn't given any options that worked for us so we worked our way up behind the storm and arrived later than planned.

Lovely property with loads of character. Large rooms, comfortable bed with good quality pillows and bedding, Large recently refurbished bathroom and a good shower. Quiet location with lovely views from the veranda over Windermere. Good quality breakfast and friendly staff.

Some areas of the hotel could do with some TLC. The lounge and bar area is lacking in atmosphere, but this may have been during a quiet period. Staff on an evening were hard to come across.
