this was my first experience staying at a hostel, and it opened my personality more than i can explain. the room size was perfect for a 16 person room and never felt cramped. the bathrooms were INCREDIBLE and i wish i had that shower at home. the staff were the nicest people i’ve ever met, and when i mentioned i was interested in watching eurovision they set it up on their tv screen, AND provided popcorn! i will go back to york just for this hostel. they helped me and my friends find a ghost tour in the city and recommend local pubs for us to visit.
there is nothing to complain about. everyone was amazing, including the others who were staying there. everyone was so kind and genuine. and when i thought i had lost my wallet and ID they were quick to search for it even though i was in another city (i had it the whole time, but was thankful to everyone who searched).

Big, bright room, comfy bed with outlet and light right by bed and a shelf. Big wire locker under the bed. Excellent kitchen and lounge with big, comfy chairs. A bus into the city stops tight in front of the hostel and there is an outdoor patio to soak up the sun, if the smokers haven’t taken it over.
Only thing I would wish for was air conditioning, even with windows open the room was very cold arm. Also wish this, like every other hostel, would swap out the heavy winter duvet for a light, Summer blanket and sheet.

I’ll begin with the staff. From the moment I arrived I literally felt like I was visiting a family members home! The staff was always conversing or smiling if they weren’t cleaning or helping someone. With that being said everything was ALWAYS clean and fresh! The kitchen facility was a great sport for all cooking needs! The property is a small walk to most of the cities attractions including the train station that brought me. I was able to connect with other visitors very well also. I think this is because of how friendly the staff was. Everyone there seemed like they have been friends forever.

The staff were the best part of this hostel, specifically Patrick and Erika. From the moment you walk in Patrick makes sure you are right at home and you have everything you need, he was great. Erika does an amazing walking tour of York which everyone should do, and she persisted doing it with me in 32 degree heat so she’s a legend for that. Location is great as it’s slightly quieter from the city centre but still only 50 mins away. Public spaces in the hostel were great and the beds were comfy.
Sometimes got hot during the nights even despite the fans, not much the hostel can do about that.

I had an excellent stay at this hostel. For starters, it was easy to find with a relatively close location to public transport. Check-in was super easy, the rooms were clean, and the beds were good. The kitchen at this hostel is exceptionally clean, well stocked, and large enough for multiple people to cook it. Additionally, the hostel offered free tea and coffee, as well as having a bar on sight. What puts this hostel a step above the rest is its wonderful staff. From the start to the end of my stay, the staff was helpful, kind, friendly, and welcoming. On both nights of my stay, free events were scheduled by the staff for guests to join in on, and we were invited by multiple staff members to join in on the fun. Off duty staff members also got involved with these events and joined in helping to lead conversations and connect fellow travelers with each other. At 3 am on the last night of my stay, there was an incident in the common area with a fellow guest who got extremely volatile with other guests and staff members alike. During this incident, they accused multiple people of being racist and ganging up on them. At that point, an incredibly knowledgable and well-spoken, off-duty staff member stepped in and started to investigate the situation so that they could immediately recitfy any wrong doings done. The guest then, in turn, immediately dismissed this staff member, demanding that they find another member of staff that "actually understood english." In the face of the verbal abuse and aggression shown by this individual, every member of staff showed exceptional character and judgment. Regardless of the late hour, three members of off-duty staff stepped in and immediately investigated the claims this guest had made. The claims were quickly found to be false, and the complaining guest confirmed as the sole instigator.
I wish I could have stayed longer.

It has great location, walking distance to anything you might wanna see. Staff is nice and willing to help you with any issues or queries about what to do in the city. The hostel itself is spacious (rooms, dining area, TV room), not noisy, which is always a plus. The bar is small but does the job, and if you dont want to be indoors, you always have the backyard to chill. If I go back to York, I'm staying here again
Found washing/drying a little expensive. Considering the dryer didn't actually dry my clothes properly. Something that could improve, but definitely not a deal breaker

I had an absolutely fantastic stay at the Astor hostel hotel From the moment I arrived, the manager and staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. They even arranged a parking bay right outside, which was a great convenience. Check-in was seamless, and as a World of Astor Member, I was delighted to receive lounge and breakfast including security luggage room-such a thoughtful perk! The staff were always eager to assist and ensured everything went smoothly for my tourist trip. The hotel’s location is perfect, with stunning city views, and the facilities were top-notch luxurious clean great hotel to explore the city. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to returning again soon!

Easy to find, next to a bus station. Indoor/outdoor places to hangout when you don't feel like staying in your room. There's a bar, a dining area, a big kitchen, a living-room with couches, a piano and wifi. The staff is kind, easy to talk to, good advices to visit the city. The room I stayed in is for women only (4 beds) with a bathroom : clean shower, clean beds, spacious lockers. Nice breakfast : simple but cheaper than in any coffeeshop in the city.
The only issues I had were in the bedroom : there's only one big ceiling light, no bedside light. Not very convenient, especially on mornings when your roommate leaves extra early and needs the light. Same for the electrical outlets : if you get the top bunk, you won't have access to one. Happens in hostels when the building is old. Not big issues but good to know beforehand.

The staff were great, very helpful and approachable both on the phone prior to my stay and during my stay. The private room on the second night was perfect ! i just wish I had booked this for both nights!
In the shared room, the bathroom was incredibly basic and the drawers under the beds were so squeaky!! I wasn't prepared for coming back during quiet time so ended up sleeping fully clothed in order to avoid disturbing guests too much. I arrived earlier in the hope I could choose a bottom bunk but beds were assigned - this would seem more reasonable if this were shown (like theatre seats) on booking so people know what they are getting in their shared dorm.

From the first day, I was very well received by Indu, who was quick, agile and professional. In addition to Indu, all the staff I had contact with (Angus, Louise, Ash, Ellie, Patrick) were patient, respectful and efficient in resolving requests. Beautiful smiles 🤗 The vibe at the hostel is very good. The guests are kind and respectful. The kitchen is very well equipped and spacious. They offer coffee, tea and numerous condiments for free, which makes preparing meals much easier. I enjoyed having the experience of preparing food collectively and exchanging recipes with people from different countries and cultures. I felt at home. I will definitely be back and I totally recommend it.
