The location was great, staff were very friendly and it was comfortable. We only booked the night before so I think we got the last room. I would definitely stay here again, and select a bigger room but it definitely served us well. The bed was very comfortable, nice clean crisp linens and nice big bath towels!! I also chose this location because of on-site parking. We were lucky to park on the street, which was free. We left our car parked here as we walked everywhere. It’s a quick 30 minute to York Minster and other attractions. Very convenient.

Couldn’t really fault it. We opted for breakfast one morning. It was a bit pricey, but only because neither of us chose much. The options were good, so if you’re a big breakfast eater, I think it’s good value for money.

A very warm welcome awaited us from the lovely Alison. We arrived mid afternoon and managed to park on the street outside. The guest house is in a beautiful area of York and only a very short walk into the city centre, along the main road. The building itself is beautiful and the internal decor was modern but sympathetic to the buildings age, reflecting the decadence of the era perfectly. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable with a huge bed, plenty of pillows, towels and beverages stocked. We were on the top floor and had a free standing air cooler which we used overnight as it was warm and humid that week. Though it was only the two of us, we had the family room which had two full sized bunks and was plenty big enough for four staying overnight. Will definitely return.

Absolutely nothing negative to report.

Room was very good, service was second to none, breakfast was fantastic, Alison was very welcoming, friendly and organised, she advised us on places to visit and routes to take etc.

Being on the second floor with the better views was great although the stairs were a little challenging, bathroom door had to be slammed to shut, we were conscious of disturbing other guests whilst using it, so could do with a little easing on it to make it shut better, pillows were a little firm but that is only our tastes

Property was lovely and clean and smelt amazing. Easy and straight forward check in/access. The little tuck shop in the hall is such a lovely touch! Our room was beautiful and the bed was huge and very comfortable. Lots of space and large shower en suite too. Not far from the centre of York, roughly 20-30 minute walk depending which side of the centre you want. We just got an uber however there is a bus to the centre at the end of the street which takes about 6-8 minutes to the centre.

Loved our stay and will certainly book again!

The breakfast was the best I ever had in a hotel! Our family room had enough floor space, and the bathroom was awesome. Everything was clean and looking like new. Very friendly staff. The location is within walking distance from York's center.

Our family room was at the "ground" level, with a low ceiling (I couldn't extend my hand over the head) and small windows facing the pavement. For one night that's OK but I don't think I would have enjoyed staying in such a room for several nights.

Property was spotless clean from top to bottom, staff were pleasant and friendly, really approachable. Rooms spotless, good wifi and nice sized tv En suite was a good size .

At the time of our visit there were works going on outwith the property and it must of been to do with water as the pressure in our room (6 top floor) wasn’t enough to keep the shower operating properly.

We received a warm and friendly greeting when we arrived. All the staff we encountered during our stay were friendly and helpful. Our room was larger than I expected, well equipped, comfortable and clean. St George's Guest House felt very "homely", there were pleasant touches such as fresh flowers placed around the entrance hall, a supply of snacks and drinks with an honesty box and a constantly replenished supply of tea, coffee, milk etc which guests could just help themselves to if running low in their room. The breakfast was wonderful, we only had it on one morning as for other days we had plans to have breakfast at various places in town. We were made to feel very welcome and I will certainly have St George's uppermost in my mind for my next visit to York. The location was great for us. We were driving to York and didn't really want to drive through the city centre as I know that traffic congestion can be bad - not a criticism of York, it's the result of a key appeal to the city - its medieval street layout and the existence of the city walls. St George's is just a short walk away from the city centre, maybe 20 minutes or so. Google Maps shows a walking time of 26 minutes from St George's to Coppergate for example and I do find that I walk a bit faster than Google Maps expects. At St George's we were able to arrive and park up without having to deal with city centre traffic and there was ample parking on the street near the guest house. There is also a small, private car parking area at the rear of the accommodation for which you can opt to pay extra if you really want that. It can be difficult to find accomodation within the city walls which offers parking and even if you do then you still have to deal with driving around the city centre - something I would rather avoid. For those not wanting to walk there are regular busses along Tadcaster Road into town.

I really can't think of any negatives for us at St George's Guest House other than the fact that we were only there for 3 nights. I would have liked to stay longer.

The room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. As ever, I received a very friendly welcome when I arrived in the early afternoon. The location of the Guest House is very useful for walking into the city centre, to the railway station or to many parts of south York. It is set away from the main road so traffic noise isn't a problem.

The property is well furnished and spotlessly clean. The staff clearly care about comfort, the rooms were lovely and warm and there was even an extra heater in the wardrobe for if we got cold. The staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful. We had a cooked breakfast one morning which was freshly cooked and tasted amazing, really set us up for the day. Being able to book a car parking space really took the pressure off finding road or city centre parking which made our trip much more relaxing too. We would stay again for sure.

Excellent location for races, very clean and well presented. Very accommodating and flexible with check in and parking. Hot weather but a fan was provided and much needed. Beautiful breakfast with very friendly service. I would recommend this guest house.

Bed was very firm so maybe a topper would helpful.
