The location is very good, within walking distance to the shopping center, restaurants, riverwalk and of course the Alamo. This is an historic hotel so don't expect large rooms, but the room that I stayed in was very comfortable, I did not lack anything.

There is quite a bit of construction going on around the Alamo, so that can be a challenge. I used the valet parking; the attendants were friendly. Unfortunately, while parked in their lot, my vehicle was broken into, and they attempted to steal it. The lot does not have cameras but was told that at the 1am lot check my vehicle was indeed locked with zero issues, so it happened sometime after that. I will say that The Menger and the Valet were very accommodating to my husband and me. We were allowed to keep the vehicle there until a tow truck was arranged. This experience will not prevent me from staying at The Menger in the future, this incident was not their fault. I blame the low life criminals that lurk in the darkness.

The Menger is a very relaxing place all the way. The room had a full balcony overlooking the Alamo Plaza. It was walking distance to all major attractions. And above all the staff. They cared.

The shower! As in all hotels I have stayed in the last five years, they have gone to the water savers. It's all good when they are cleaned. A water saver is a strainer gasket that is put in the area where it screws on the pipe. They get clogged and need to be cleaned. The maintenance never has time to address this. So poor shower head pressure. Also need to address the lack of hot water during showers. Only showers. Bath was excellent.

Truly a historic hotel - we may have even gotten a ghostely experience (my wife woke one night to the strong smell of old perfume and only then we did the research about we read about Sallie White Beautiful architecture also in the ground floor And I loved the bar :D

Walls are paper thin (but not a major complaint its an old hotel) Front of desk need to sell this place - tell you about the experiences of the hotel etc Both when checking and leaving the front of desk was not very interested Should be telling people about things to do in the area etc as well! I know an old hotel but I had a lot of disagreements with the shower - it was either molten hot or freezing cold, impossible to get a consistent good balance

A beautiful nostalgic hotel to roam around with an attractive garden. Bed was very comfortable and we were given a room with a view. So close to everything, e.g. walking distance to Riverwalk, Hemifair, La Villilita, RiverCenter, and The Alamo.

Since the hotel was built in1859 and many improvements since then, the walls are somewhat thin so you hear a lot of noise such as toilet flushing, showering, doors closing, guests talking, but in knowing this ahead of time it was acceptable. For all I know it could have been ghosts which is understandable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms pleasantly decorated.

Location excellent. The Alamo and Riverside walk with many excellent bars and restaurants. We can recommend Brenner’s which was perfect. The decor was very stylish and reminiscent of the early days of the hotel. The pool area was also great with a good size pool, many sunbeds and pool towels. The temperature was good. The staff on reception were very helpful , polite and efficient

The double bed in our room was on the small side and quite a hard base. We ended up in the middle! There wasn’t really room to open up 2 suitcases. Valet parking is offered by the hotel but it was expensive and awkward to get to. We stayed in a public car park which was £20 for 24hrs. We had to walk to the hotel with suitcases but it was only 5 mins.

Richly historical! A beautiful property located next to the Alamo and down the street from the Riverwalk. The street in front is now a plaza, which really adds to the experience. The Menger bar is original, when built was a replica of a pub in London’s House of Lords. Teddy Roosevelt had drinks there before the trip to Cuba in the Spanish American War. This was my first stay at the Menger. The people there were very friendly and helpful! I felt very comfortable and I will be back!

I’m sure there is something wrong about the property. I just didn’t find it.

The hotel is adjacent to Alamo Plaza and close to the River Walk in the heart of San Antonio, so there is no better location. This is a classic old hotel, beautifully maintained, and the suite we had was lovely. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The bed was very comfortable and the HVAC was able to keep the room at a very comfortable temperature even when the heat soared. The lobby and public rooms are beautiful, and there's a lovely garden. We didn't use it, but the pool is large and well equipped.

The hotel needs to upgrade their WiFi. Everyone is "on line" these days, so travelers need dependable Internet service. The bathroom needs to be tweaked; they could install cabinets so that there would be a place to put one's "stuff". Finally, the buffet breakfast is pretty standard. One would expect that a first class hotel would have a first class breakfast.

The room was very clean, comfortable, and beautiful. A bit small but very aware of time in which it was built, so we had no problem with it. Beds were very comfortable with nice pillows. Most hotel pillows are cheap and flat. The location was perfect. Right in the middle and within walking distance of everything we wanted to do. We stayed there for the rich history and beauty of the hotel, and we loved it (especially the bar).

There was nothing we didn’t like. Temperature of the shower hot water would fluctuate a bit but never went cold at all. The tub drain was a little slow

This hotel has always been on my dream list of places to stay. So when the price was right, I booked a room and was so glad I did. I loved that I could feel like I was walking back in time when staying at the hotel. My favorite places were the original entry, where you can see the 3 indoor balconies of the rooms upstairs. The wallpaper is gorgeous. The room we stayed in was exceptional as well. My goal for this trip was to experience everything the hotel had to offer and to feel like I was back in time for my trip, and I did exactly that. We ate a great hamburger and fries at the Bar, and we dined for Breakfast the next morning.

I had nothing negative to say about the hotel. It was fabulous. I only wish they had more of a write-up somewhere in the hotel, a pamphlet of sorts that told more of the history of the hotel. I googled to find the history. As I love old buildings, I enjoyed learning when the additions took place, and that it was owned by several owners. I know most people don't think of these things like me, but with the ever-evolving new buildings with no personality or history, I truly enjoy that we get to go to places like this to discover the past that was before us. There was a pamphlet, but I thought it could have used more information.

The people working in the buffet, most of them was sick. Coughing not covering their mouths, 1 of the staff was blowing his nose around the food. Will never eat there again. Over priced buffet. No waffles or pancakes.
