I stayed at Mai Charming Hotel and Spa in Hanoi for 5 nights in late August and had an excellent experience. The value for money was outstanding, and the location couldn’t be better—right in the Old Quarter, within walking distance of the main tourist attractions, restaurants, and shops. My room was clean, with very good sound isolation thanks to double windows, and the air conditioning worked perfectly—a real plus in the Hanoi heat. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. They responded promptly to all my questions even before my arrival. I would like to especially commend Fiona and Kelvin for their outstanding hospitality. Fiona arranged my transfers and day trips (Ninh Bình and Cát Bà Island) and made sure everything went smoothly. Kelvin gave me excellent tips and recommendations for local food and attractions in town. Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations, and I would definitely recommend Mai Charming Hotel and Spa to anyone visiting Hanoi.

Nothing worth mentioning

What made me feel most comfortable about the hotel was the staff, especially a woman named Mai. She speaks English very well and is incredibly friendly. When my card payment was declined—since I hadn’t realized I needed to activate international payments—she still allowed me to check in and place my belongings in the room without any additional charges. I even offered to pay part of the amount with the small amount of cash I had and settle the rest later after withdrawing money from an ATM. However, she kindly insisted: “It’s okay, you should keep the cash with you so you feel safe when withdrawing money outside the hotel.” I was truly impressed. Later, when I returned to the hotel, I brought her some food as a thank-you, but the next day she warmly reciprocated by giving me a traditional Hanoi snack. I also arranged airport pickup and drop-off through the hotel, and the service was excellent—I absolutely loved it!

Great location. Right in the centre of things and mid-point between the main features of the city - the cathedral, lake, train street, night market, shopping alleys and streets, museums, the mausoleum, eateries and galleries and whatever I've left out. There is a Michelin Pho restaurant in the cathedral side street and a great bahn mi stall - queues on both so I just chose from one of the many other excellent options. There is a good elevator that takes you quickly to your floor. Good helpful reception - useful information and eager to assist without being obtrusive. 24/7 reception meant they were there for my late and early departure. I had a good room, in line what I paid and expected. It was comfortable and had what I wanted.

The staff are who make the hotel 10/10! The hotel is clean and comfortable and value for money in the range of stars. I used it as a base while touring the north and it will be my choice hotel whenever I am in Hanoi. If you want to book tours or trips - do it with Mr Tom at the hotel. He get great prices better than online booking sites. I started booking with him even before I arrived. Mr Tom is a great! The reception staff are also amazing. Location is excellent right in the old quarter - and the street it is on is nice and big - not like the smaller old quarter streets where it’s a bit chaotic. Great food and shopping all around. Don’t hesitate to book here

I recently stayed at this hotel and had a pleasant experience overall. While the room was on the smaller side, it was very comfortable and well-maintained—perfect for a short stay. The biggest plus was the location—right in the heart of the city, making it easy to explore nearby attractions and get around. Though there’s no in-house breakfast, there are plenty of great options available just outside the hotel, which was convenient and gave us a taste of the local flavors. If you’re looking for a clean, cozy, and centrally located place to stay without too many frills, this is a solid choice. Would definitely consider staying here again!

Nothing as such

The location is the best, right at heart of the city centre, easy to navigate, surrounded by vibrant life of Hanoi, but also very quiet at night. The street is not blocked by the weekend walking street. Shout out to all staff who have noticed the tiniest inconvenience and tried their best to accomodate me. They were super friendly, professional, and supportive. I felt like home there from the very first moment arriving. As a local but far from Hanoi for a while, my experience here is 10 out of 10.

The facilities are a bit old, not quite soundproofing since I could still hear noises from the hall, but not unbearable. The staff were responsive anyway so not too bad.

I had a wonderful experience at Mai Charming Hotel, located right in the heart of Hanoi’s Old Quarter. The location is perfect—just a short walk to Hoan Kiem Lake, night markets, and many delicious local restaurants. The hotel itself is clean, cozy, and well-maintained. My room was comfortable, quiet, and had everything I needed for a pleasant stay. The breakfast was simple but tasty, with a good selection of both local and Western options. What truly made my stay memorable was the exceptional service from the staff—especially Ms. Duyen at the front desk. She was incredibly kind, professional, and helpful throughout my entire visit. From the moment I arrived, Duyen greeted me with a warm smile and made sure I had everything I needed. She gave great recommendations on where to eat and what to see, and even helped me arrange transportation with ease. Her hospitality really made me feel at home. I highly recommend Mai Charming Hotel to anyone visiting Hanoi, and I want to sincerely thank Ms. Duyen for her outstanding service!

Convenient location in Hanoi and great friendly staff! We stayed 3 times during our trip as we had to return to Hanoi a few times. Had a great communication with the manager and reception team by WhatsUp ! We were able to extend our stay due to our late departure. Staff always helped us with Grab orders. We were interested in Vietnamese art and Fiona, the girl from reception, took us to the art shop, and give us a little old city tour. Amazing service!

Hotel can use some fresh painting. It is an old building but needs to be freshened up.

The 2 younger ladies who alternated shifts at reception, were incredible, we got all the tips we needed including for SIMs, cafes, restaurants, attractions, taxis, transport, weather, typically anything we needed we got good and honest advice and also they were super friendly.

The only part we didn’t like which only comes with being in a huge capital busy city and the drain systems, is we had little beetles in our room and bathroom sometimes, but only a few and they didn’t venture into the bed which we were happy about, so it wasn’t too much of a problem

The staff is really nice and friendly, always concern about you and help you with advices and tips (you can ask them anything). The location is great for what you pay. So much coffee shops, restaurants and bars near. You don’t hear the crazy noise from outside (motorcycles and cars) in your room!!

When you shower the water got out of the shower so the floor of the bathroom got all wet. But apart from that everything was ok for me. Good ac, clean place and good beds. Of course remember is Vietnam and everything is old and not exactly like pics.
