Very expensive to eat, breakfast is not included with the room. Staff at the gym/pool were very snooty one morning.

My husband and I celebrated our 70th and 60th birthdays with an overnight stay at the Shangri-La including a Wellness Day Spa with lunch. We were so pleasantly surprised with a lovely room on Level 27 with Harbourview of Luna Park, Harbour Bridge and Opera House. As well we were treated to a birthday cake and champagne on the house on our arrival including an early check in to coincide with our Day Spa schedule and a late check-out. The 2 course package Altitude lunch on Level 36 was exceptional as part of our Wellness Spa Package. We chose to visit a local eatery for dinner and one of the staff members we were chatting to in the lift on the way down suggested we take an umbrella from Reception which was such a nice touch of exceptional service and customer care. It was so nice to just step away from our normal routine and enjoy such a luxurious room getaway. Thank you so much.

The check in on a Friday was slow as there were a lot of people lined up. Parking in the vicinity is very expensive and there should be a discounted rate negotiated by Shangrila at the local 111 Harrington Street, Car Park for guests.

Location, cleanliness and comfort

Have stayed at many five star hotels with breakfast in the lounge, and they will always take your coffee order when seating you. Here it is find your own seat, and then find your own waiter to do a coffee order. You cannot order eggs from the egg station, but again, have to find your own waiter to do an egg order, which then takes a while to get to you, as the same staff are cleaning tables, clearing dishes and attending to patrons enquiries. The breakfast service could be done better and more streamlined.

We would love to thank the beautiful young receptionist who was working on Saturday the 8th of March 4:30 pm who looked after us. We were upgraded for no other reason other than her incredible capacity to show kindness to two very humble people. We are nurses and never dreamed of ever staying in a room like that - it literally took our breaths away and made our eyes leak with overwhelming gratitude. She has no idea the impact she has had on creating a memory that will last forever for us, and we were so incredible blessed and grateful she was on that day. We wanted to buy her some flowers to show our enormous thank you, but I wasn't wearing my glasses at the time and and didn't get her name But we will remember her and the experience she gave us. She is a true gift to your organisation and words are just not enough to express our heartfelt thanks David & Katherine

Breakfast queue very long and took almost 10mins to be seated. At the entry, there was a table with fresh glasses of juice on offer. The glasses were, however all empty and used by others. Only a handful of glasses were untouched, and filled with juice. In the dining area at breakfast, tables were not cleared or cleaned. For a premium hotel, could do better!

the staff on arrival were exceptional - falling over themselves to help - insisting on taking our luggage - delivering to our room. Organising a taxi - running out to the taxi to assist out of the car and take whatever baggage we may have been carrying - asking if we needed anything.

The website should have noted that if walking to the hotel from the trains - it is a very steep up hill location - website should suggest don't walk if you have luggage, but to grab a taxi - taxi cost to location is under $20 AUD. The walk is okay when not carrying luggage.

Room was amazing, bed very comfortable and large. Views from the bar were fabulous.

Check in took about 20 minutes. We were given no information about the hotel, facilities or restaurants. We got stuck in the lift as we weren't informed about scanning our room key card to activate it! The was no more information in the room or on the 'Shangri-la ' site on the TV.

My wife and I recently stayed at the hotel to celebrate her birthday. From the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out, our experience was excellent. All the facilities were very nice. Staff were wonderful. Breakfast was exceptional. Room was excellent. They put us on the 35th floor which was amazing. The Horizon Club Lounge was a nice addition to our stay as it served us exceptionally well. The evening canapes and beverages were amazing. I would like to say a big thank you to the staff at the Horizon Club Lounge, especailly Jay and Jessica for looking after us and also Laura(the Italian waitress),as being Italian myself, found her very nice and friendly. In saying that, all the staff were great. The Blu Bar on the 36th floor was also a very exceptional place to have evening drinks with such amazing views. In all, we had a great experience and definitely, will stay there again on our next visit to Sydney.

Nothing

All went well from check in to check out with no issues experienced. The hotel and amenities were very clean, and the hotel was very central. A lovely note on the window, piece of cake, and wine was present in the room (due to my wife's b day) which was a really nice touch.

Not that I didn't have a great experience with the continental breakfast. The food was good; however, I did notice that the amenities are starting to look a little dated in some areas and could do with an upgrade. Additionally, the car valet service is very quick and responsive, I do think the cost is a little high to park vehicles overnight, perhaps if staying more than one night a slight discount could apply.

Location at The rocks was fantastic, easy walking distance to the opera house, ferry’s and many attractions (but it did involve a lot of steps so probably not great if you’re not too mobile). I had a massive room over looking Darling Harbour with access to the Horizin Club lounge. This provided drinks, breakfast, afternoon tea and cakes and canapés in the evening. I didn’t use this as much as I could have as I was busy with other plans. Swimming pool was good, pretty empty in the evenings. Staff couldn’t do enough for you, polite and really helpful. The concierge was very helpful with travel planning to get around the city. Room service added a $10 service charge which I think is pretty standard Altitude restaurant - really good food with an amazing view of the opera house and harbour bridge. Bonus of having a good view of the fireworks which went off in the harbour every night at the end of the outdoor production of Guys and Dolls.
