We really enjoyed our stay, the accommodation was lovely and clean, comfortable and convenient. We had dinner there that evening which was ok ( think we should have ordered the pizza as looked like their signature dish)
We were very disappointed to find out that although breakfast was advertised and breakfast menus were on show ( there wasn't any) So we went searching Abermain high and low for a coffee next morning and a local said that the only place we were going to get one was Ridgey Didge pies. We had to drive to Cessnock and 1hr wait for breakfast with children 😔

We stayed 3 nights in mid-January - Fri to Mon. Check-in process was simple at the bar. We were visiting relatives that live in Abermain and were eating with them over the weekend so we only needed a place to sleep and shower, but we decided to have dinner at the bistro on Friday night after we settled into our room. It was delicious. My husband ordered the Friday night mixed grill special (it was a very generous serving) and I ordered the rissoles. It was so good to taste traditional country rissoles that reminded me of my grandmother's and mum's cooking. We noticed that dishes going to other tables were generous servings too. Our room was surprisingly spacious (we were in Room 5) with bedside tables provided which have 2 decent size drawers that you could use to unpack your suitcase if you were staying more than just a couple of nights. Hanging space with coat hangers and other shelves was also in the room. They have a cute pull cord to turn the room light on in keeping with by-gone era. The bed was really comfortable and the housekeeping staff gladly swapped my pillow for one that was better suited to me. The bathrooms are clean, offering a single shower cubicle and a shower over bath option. Shower gel is provided and there was a hair dryer in the cupboard under the sink in the ladies bathroom.
It was unfortunate that staff thought it necessary to use a leaf blower in the beer garden before 8:30am on the Sunday morning. Our room overlooked the back section of the pub.

The phone contact with the owners particularly as they were with a family member at hospital. We found the instructions we were given were enormously helpful even though there appeared to be no staff on the premises. A very comfortable and quiet stay.
Can’t think of anything. Although we weren’t able to get the air-con working it wasn’t really an issue as the doonas were superbly warm.

Comfy beds, beautiful, old pub, clean, wonderful owners and lovely on site cafe. Owners went out of their way to make us very happy. Awesome locals. Great stay. Highly recommend.
Nothing I can fault really….maybe the light in our room wasn’t working properly but they had just been closed down for weeks because of a fire. It was fixed as soon as it could be. It also opened back up and was in full swing while we were there.

Very charming, lovely old hotel with beautiful rooms! And very friendly manager who was welcoming to our whole multigenerational family!
The confirmation email said there was a cafe onsite for breakfast. It is closed (not sure how long for). Keep this in mind - you may need to drive ~10 mins to get some brekky.

The hotel was a straightforward good value for money pub. Had been renovated recently and was comfortable. The check in process was via a key box, but all went smoothly due to excellent communication via text. A small guest kitchen with a fridge and toaster and microwave was a bonus.

The property is in the process of some updates on the outside……..the inside is warm inviting and comfortable. The beds were like sleeping in the comfort of my own bed at home.
The stairs………only because I have a knee injury that was being difficult the time that I stayed there. They do however add to the character of the place

Cosy room and perfect for a stay over in the Hunter Valley. Very friendly & relaxed welcome from the lady there. For the price, we were very happy and everything was nice and clean. Good selection of craft beers in the bar and the coffee shop downstairs in the morning was very nice, and the beer garden was lovely.
All good!

Great old pub that has been updated. Good rooms, aircon, TV, kitchen area and breakfast cafe downstairs. Make sure you stay here and not the Kearsley Hotel as that place is disgusting. We had to leave and luckily found this place which really nice.
Clean old pub that has had a good update to the rooms, nice bed, aircon and a breakfast cafe place great pub
