The Commo was perfect for our two night stay. It had everything we needed. I didn't want to pay a fortune to stay in Newcastle for two nights for a concert. The room had two beds, a small fridge, icy air con and a TV with movies available for free. The shared bathroom was fine, included soap, shampoo and conditioner. The location is great. We walked everywhere despite having our cars parked right out front. The beaches nearby are lovely. Staff were great. Rooms were very clean. I cant fault the place at all. If I need a place to stay in Newcastle. I'll stay here. Perfect for a couple of lads who aren't fussy and are only inside for sleep, rest and getting ready to go out and about. The pub is cool. Typical Aussie pub. Plenty of space. Can't complain about anything there.

Everything was just fine. I could be picky and nitpick about some minor cosmetic things like the bathroom roof could do with a new coat of paint but who really cares. For the price, it was excellent.

The staff are friendly and welcoming, happy to assist in making the experience a pleasant one, its pub accomodation so don't expect a 5 star resort or a silent room before 12am, the amenities are clean and tidy and well kept, its an excellent priced accomodation to stay so close to the heart of newcastle for events or leisure. Have stayed here several times now and always impressed with the customer service, will be back again in the future.

The property was in a good location, 15 minute walk from the station, 10 minute walk into the main stretch of shops and bars, right next to Aldi. The room was cleaned and comfortable with a kettle, tea and coffee provided, a fridge, tv, towels and air con. The staff were really friendly and helpful- special mention to Jane who drove us to catch our train the next day and helped us with our luggage.

The rooms are directly above a pub so as to be expected there is some noise that travels up especially at closing time around 3am. This didn’t particularly disturb us but is something to consider if you are a light sleeper.

Staff were super friendly, it was great value for money, comfy beds and good air conditioning. Would come again as it's not too far from anything as long as you don't mind a little walk. Everything was nice and clean, and the shower pressure was good

Wet patch outside mens bathroom/someone's room. It was easy to step over but the first time on it was a shock to my socks haha. Can hear noise from bar but this is to be expected when staying above one. This is just to travellers who do want a certain amount of quiet, for us its not a huge issue

The commonwealth was by far my best stay I ever had anywhere ever and I advise people to look at staying here because it’s one of the best or probably the number 1 best hotel in Newcastle. The staff were awesome and so friendly as well and I thank them all so much for this opportunity to stay where I will be definitely going again see you guys again soon 🥰😀

I loved everything about the property

Great location given the price range as well as super clean. Being very basic, it is not a room you would like to spend much time in. Sitting above the pub it was quiet due to early closure Sun and Mon. Would not book it for Fri and Sat nights if you are a light sleeper. Shared facilities (though we did not use them) looked very clean.

Could have at least a basic bedside table lamp. Oh, and something resembling a wardrobe. There was not a single piece of furniture for clothes. Walls are very thin as this is an old building.

After such a long drive arriving after 10pm it was truly nice to be received warmly, there was no held up during check in and went smoothly. The receiving staff took us personally to our room. As it was a Friday night and pub was busy it was good to know that access to the rooms above are secured and doors only will open with the key given to us. The room is clean. Booked the family suite that has 2 singles and a double bed, this room has its own shower/ toilet although across our room there is also a shared toilet/ shower facility. Has an outdoor area too. Location is amazing. Walking distance to beautiful Darby Street and Newcastle CBD/ Harbour. The beautiful area of this pub motel is surrounded by beautiful architecture.

It is a given that there will be the expected noise being a pub motel that shuts very late but it’s the vacuuming so early in the morning that was quite disturbing. There is also a store room just next to our room that was being accessed quite early in the morning and that disturbed our sleep too. Other than this, happy with our stay.

Room smelt of smoke (bought Glen20 spray) Could have had better instructions before arrival in procedure to check in with bar staff and access is inside the pub. Stairs were difficult with my suitcase Courses have a bath mat as part of supplies

Location and comfortable, I loved the vintage bathrooms too! Shower was awesome good pressure and great hot water.

I’d seen review to say it was noisey at night - so I brought ear plugs and it wasn’t an issue. (Nosiest person ended up being my bunk mate snoring 😂) it’s a beautiful old building with single glazed windows in the centre of town.

The staff was very helpful; the hote is located in the downtown that gives accessibility to all good restaurants, malls, pubs etc - it has got it’s own restaurant and pub as well. The room and the bathroom were clean. Overall it is a good value for money

Feedback I have provided to the hotel - >some Pillow covers were not clean, ac had some strange odour, else everything was good. And the entrance - you have to go through the pub 😀. Personal preference completely, but some people might find it interesting 😀
