This hotel is in an excellent location in the middle of Newcastle. It is close to Darby St for many food options. It is also close to the Civic Theatre if you are in town for a show. The tram stops just outside the front door so makes it very convenient to get into town without bringing the car. The room had a very comfy bed and a lovely, updated bathroom. We were only staying the night to attend a dinner in town, so we chose the smallest room, and it was perfectly comfortable although the window just looked into an internal area which was fine as we were not there long. The hotel itself has great bistro and bar areas however we did not dine here so cannot comment on the food.

Surprisingly it took some minutes to check in compared to most hotels who are expecting you, usually give you the key or access cared almost immediately. This was a very minor comment and did not impact our stay. We will be back when next in Newcastle

We liked so much about this hotel - fantastic location near the waterfront with the tram stop right outside; fab retro decor throughout; comfy bed,; double glazed windows so no traffic noise; surprisingly little noise from the Fri & Sat night music below; adjustable airconditioner; a clever stand with hangers for clothes; access to extra teas, coffees, water bottles and towels; pleasant staff; good bar and attractive atrium beer garden; close to lots of good restaurants on King St and along the waterfront. Breakfast of pastries and good coffee 3 mins walk away at BellAmica comes highly recommended.

The standard Queen room with balcony is a pretty small 17 m² and more suitable for short term stays. There isn't room to set up the luggage rack, let alone put out a large suitcase. The balcony provides somewhere to sit but it is tiny and cramped. You can't stand in front of the basin and mirror with the bathroom door open, because the door obscures half the basin. Very annoying, especially as the towels are behind the bathroom door!

The Lucky Hotel is a happy airy oasis in the CBD of Newcastle. I found the staff to be friendly, patient & efficient. Although, the accommodation is part of a vibrant pub & restaurant used by both locals & visitors, the usual crowd noise has been muted to low background noise in the accommodation area. The rooms are pleasantly functional & the ensuite is geared for all types of abled people. Chocolates welcomed me & I appreciated the complimentary bottles of water. For medium priced accommodation it is good value.

Too busy being surprised at how good everything was to be picky

We had a great experience at The Lucky Hotel. Check-in was easy and the staff were very helpful. The room we booked had a faulty light. We were told that this would be fixed upon our return ( we went for a walk to explore ). Unfortunately it was not.....we were given a voucher for a free bottle of wine ( which was great!! ) and moved to another room, which was bigger and nicer than our original. Room was very clean and our bed was comfortable. Hotel is quite quirky and the downstairs bar/dining area has a great vibe. Great location to the pier and wharf. Close to bars and local brewery. Paid parking available at a nearby Parking Lot or free on-street parking ( which is limited ). Would definitely stay here again.

Our original room was quite small....enter and fall on the bed, with little room to move around it. Music from the entertainment downstairs was quite loud in our upgraded room.....but it was off by a reasonable time.

Love the decor, the facilities and how close it was to everything. This hotel has so much personality! Loved being able to get coffee on the corner and come back to enjoy on our balcony in the room. We loved the flamingos in the lift too- and all the flamingo decor! We explored the next day, and came back and dined at the lucky restaurant. Cocktails and food were great!

I noticed in the shower there was some black mould on the little glass shelf- just needs to be pulled out and given a proper scrub- easily fixed. Otherwise fine!

I was blown away by this stay—far exceeded my expectations and great value for money. The hotel has a beautiful, upscale yet welcoming vibe, reminiscent of Soho House. The staff truly went above and beyond, with thoughtful touches that made the experience seamless. Check-in was easy, and I arrived to a spotless, modern room with air-con already on. The bed was incredibly comfortable—best sleep I’ve had in years! The bathroom had O&M toiletries, which was a lifesaver since I forgot my shampoo. Express check-out made my early departure hassle-free. The location is also fantastic—everything within a 5–10 min walk. It’s clear the management puts real thought into guest experience. Highly recommend!

We felt lucky to stay at the Lucky Hotel. With its retro, yet stylish decor and clever renovation, the Lucky Hotel has managed to create a unique, cosy place to stay while acknowledging the heart of industrial Newcastle. It beats staying at the usual boring chain hotels. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to assist us, and the location was brilliant. The beautiful foreshore, the Civic theatre, and Hunter Street were a very short walk away, and if you felt like a good walk, the very cool Derby Street wasn't too far away either. The electric tram stop was literally outside the door if you wanted to get to Newcastle Beach. I highly recommend it.

Although there are many cafes nearby, it would have been great to have a simple breakfast available, as the atrium is such a wonderful place to spend some time.

This was an atmospheric hotel fortunately within my price range. Spacious, comfortable and very clean rooms. The lady who checked me in was nice. Bed was just a touch soft for my taste, however, tastes differ. It was also conveniently right near an L tram stop which is a few stops from the main Newcastle Exchange station, and also a few stops from Newcastle beach. In my offtime, I have to say that the Newcastle beach and several harbors are beautiful, even had a couple nice huge pools supported by the city. There was also a very large and convenient Metro supermarket just a couple blocks away. Also the bar/restaurant was really great, wonderful food and drinks, and staff was very pleasant.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Lucky Hotel. Unfortunately, due to a last minute flight cancellation, we were unable to fly to Newcastle on the day we had intended and therefore missed out on the first day of our booking. Jessica, on checking in, was extremely helpful and considerate. She gave us a token for a free bottle of wine for our troubles and couldn't do enough for us. The room itself was extremely clean, in a great location and had very comfortable beds. We were a little nervous about the noise as we knew there was music at weekends in the bar downstairs, however the music stopped at 11 on Saturday (we could hardly hear it from our room btw) and the bar closed at 9.30 on the Sunday so we had a great night's sleep. I would highly recommend this hotel for future visitors to Newcastle.

The hotel is one of the best businesses in the city! It's conveniently located, has an amazing vibe and we felt spoiled thanks to the nice deals and gifts offered to the guests. The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay delightful. A big thank you to the reception, the bar/restaurant and the housekeeping staff. You all do an amazing job. The food and the drinks are nice too. We will definitely be back when we visit Newcastle again!

Nothing! I have noticed that other reviews mention the noise: just be mindful that it is a live music venue on Friday and Saturday nights, but it did not bother us at all since they finish pretty early (not later than 1 am).
