A great stay – warm people and good vibes We stayed two nights at this hotel and had a really great experience. The price-quality ratio is excellent. Everything was very clean and comfortable, and the location is perfect — close to everything in Newcastle. The staff were genuinely friendly and even let us check in earlier, which we really appreciated. Downstairs, the hotel has a bar with a great vibe, very chill, and the beer and pizza were honestly amazing. We would definitely come back. Highly recommended!

It would have been nice to have a few more kitchen items, but honestly, for the price, the hotel is more than fair. We felt really comfortable and happy with our choice.

Great location with a short 5-minute walk to our event destination (Civic Theatre) and close to the city centre and free street parking nearby. Super friendly staff from Lachlan who welcomed us, to all the bar & restaurant staff we interacted with. The inhouse pizza restaurant (Ori Pizza) was a great pick for dinner & drinks before the show. Large comfortable room with really clean shared facilities and for the price, could not be beat in my humble!

There was nothing to not like! Local Council staff starting a concrete cutter just after 7am wasn't particularly good timing but had to get up to face the day sometime!

Simple room, great place to use as a base for exploring Newcastle. The bed was comfortable and the bed linen and towels were good. There are two shower rooms and one had clearly been decorated more recently than the other and I much preferred the newer of the two but that's just a personal preference. There was some noise from the pub below but this didn't go on late at all and didn't keep me awake. There were some great local musicians who played while I was there and the pizzas are really good! The lock on the door to my room was a bit 'loose', it was secure but rattled a little and didn't inspire confidence. It's not a massive issue but something that would make any guest staying feel more comfortable if it was addressed...

Nothing not to like....

Clean and surprising spacious single room. Bed was comfortable, and the shared bathrooms located nearby in the hallway. Convenient location with ample on street parking. Can definitely recommend the pizza from the hotel bistro! Noise from the pub was audible but not offensively loud. Loved the character of the building and its locality. Great for a short stay and very good value for money.

The pipes are noisy when the shower hasn't been used in a while. Like, wake you up noisy. Probably not an issue if your room isn't located right next to a bathroom, but if you are, be prepared for the occasional loud vibrating groan from the pipes. Wouldn't stop me from staying here again, but might be a not negotiable for others.

Loved the location. Loved the price. Loved the hotel and loved the pizza ( I have never had pizza for dinner × 3) A new experience each time. Wow! Nearly 60 and easily jaded. Really pleasantly surprised. Great staff. Kind and caring and helpful people. Good people. A very easy vibe. Felt safe and supported as 2 women travellers. Stayed for Xmas to be close to nearbye family and 94 yr old mum. I hope to rebook for next year. Thankyou Oriental Hotel Cooks Hill. Xxx

Great location literally a 10 minute drive or walking distance from anywhere you need to go. The room was super big and the beds were comfy. The bathrooms were always clean and tidy. Staff were super friendly and helpful.

Parking was a bit difficult most of it was timed and sometimes had to drive around a bit to find a spot but not the worst. The water pressure in the shower also wasn’t the best but not a dealbreaker at all.

The rooms are located on top of a pub, it seems to be renovated, the rooms are big and the communal bathroom is clean, there is also a kitchen. The staff was really nice, i could store my luggage until the evening and could sit in the hallway until i needed to leave. Check in was easy. There is a supermarket 10min away and there are restaurants three streets further.

The window did not close completly, so i heard the wind blowing through it was making noises

The pizzas down stairs were to die for definitely the best pizza I’ve had before. I had the one with potato and rosemary with plum sauce literally freaking amazing . The room had two beds was clean . Comfortable and price was good .showers were communal and always kept clean . Showers were always free when needed.

The showers kept going super hot then really cold . Didn’t do it on the first night I stayed so maybe something to do with the tanks or something.

Very lovely little hotel, bathroom and kitchen facilities were updated and very clean. Free tea and coffee was a big bonus too. The rooms were also very nice and clean with comfortable beds. Staff were very lovely and super friendly. Very close to light rail lines also.

there was no air conditioning however there was a large ceiling fan so it wasn’t too much of an issue.

Bed was really comfortable and the room was lovely and clean, great kitchen area, although I was disappointed that powdered milk was the only milk provided. Other than that, it was lovely, would definitely recommend it to others. The suburb is beautiful, with lots of historic houses, and a lovely slow pace.
