Very good location

We stayed for one night in room 19 on the top floor. It has two separate bedrooms and a living room. The room is very spacious. Before check-in, the staff helped us split the two large beds into 4 single beds according to our request. Everything was fine, except that my friends and I felt that the pillows were too high and uncomfortable for our heads and necks, which affected our sleep. Furthermore, the bathroom and toilet doors are in disrepair and cannot be locked or closed.

Second time staying here and both times we really enjoyed it. Bed was very comfortable, shower nice and strong and the room was clean. We were there for the Newcastle Marathon so was perfect spot only being 400m from the start. Close to beaches and eating places. For the location and timing of us being there (with an event on) the price was reasonable…you don’t find much under $200 like that. Wasn’t loud at all even though it was a pub and they have a late night bar. We will definitely stay there again.

Parking can be hard. You either have to pay everyday except Sunday or it’s hard to find a park during the day close especially if an event is on or it’s busy time.

Evening meal of grilled steak was superb. Lovely 1900’S layout and structure, fascinating part of Newcastle’s history. Would come again.

The location of the hotel is at the top of steep hill, think Streets of San Francisco, if you have a suitcase or wheel along, get a taxi to the hotel, otherwise be prepared to look for the nearest cardiac arrest A&E unit. The bed room was small, no desk or chair, the bed was comfy, the room felt more like single with minimal space around the bed. There was no mat in bath so as not to slip, so having a shower was a safety risk, no handle to get into the bath and under shower head to safely have a shower. The shower was superb but dodgy to stay safely upright took a shine of it. Uniquely to get to bathroom you go through toilet closet, no probs as handy to get to toilet in middle of night.

The Grand Hotel rooms are roomy. the location is excellent for local beaches, local transport, cafes and bars. The staff are always friendly, cheerful and helpful. the restaurant menu was great: I had an amazing meal.

I had a top floor room and it needed a few repairs: a seriously cracked window pain, a small hole in a wall panel, a broken towel rack in the bathroom with a seriously sharp edge, a shower screen that was once a glass panel is now an ill-fitting curtain, so water escapes into the rest of the bathroom. Complementary coffee sachets are cheap and the contents had no flavour.

I stayed for 1 night. The room was basic and pretty old, but it was comfortable. The staff I interacted with were great. The food was delicious. I had a schnitzel with salad and pepper sauce for lunch, and it was delicious. It's better than most I've had. Then I had chicken wings later, and they were great, too. The hotel was built in 1891 and recently refurbished by the look of it. They've maintained most of the old charm, too, which is fantastic. There was a great open jazz night downstairs, which was great, too. I'd go back for sure.

staff in bar and gentlemen that checked us in was very helpful and friendly bed comfy room large bathroom good although there was soap left on top of shower head from previous guest food in bar was lovely

the cleaner didn't speak a lot of English so there when we asked for a spoon for the tea/coffee, we ended up asking in the bar the morning we left we tried finding someone to ask about leaving our bags. we could only find a cleaner. when he did understand, he just said leave behind the bar. this we didn't do and carried them with us

I stayed two nights and found the hotel reasonably priced and comfortable. The publican, Lucas was very friendly and helpful.

Not a big deal but some of the areas within the pub are needing some TLC with paint peeling off some of the walls here and there. The rooms are a little on the small side but comfortable enough for a couple of nights. Room 8 that I stayed in had a wobbly tap faucet and one of those annoying toilet seats that had become loose, moved around and wouldn't stay up. Both simple fixes that should be attended to.

The bed was massive and i loved that. My dad thought it was a nice place and looked cool. He’s a bit of a history buff and thought the history was cool. He enjoyed the bath and got to enjoy the tv. The bed was rather comfortable I must say and the facilities were good considering it was a renovated historic pub.

My dad wasn’t so pleased with the fact the other bedroom wasn’t unlocked when we got there when I did book the place for 2 people for 2 separate beds considering I was staying with my father. They fixed the issue no problem and had it done by the time we got back from our concert. I wasn’t a fan of the stairs because I am disabled and do find stairs challenging but I managed and it’s ok. My dad wasn’t to impressed with the lack of parking but we managed well.

Beds were super comfy, staff were friendly, great location. Easy check in and out. Balcony was lovely for morning coffee or evening drinks. Room was clean, no smells :) good shower pressure. Our meals and drinks from downstairs were yum.

The small step into the bathroom we kept stubbing our feet on. Shower towels were quite small. The kettle leaked when pouring so burnt the foot a couple of times and the tv in our room didn't work :(

Enormous country pub suite with high metal pressed ceilings - and comfortable beds. Huge rooms, excellent airconditioning - very traditional Australian country Pub. Very Very good value.

There was nothing I didn't like - except maybe the 1930's bathroom which reminded me of my boarding school - though when we checked out and looked inside the other suites - their bathrooms had been renovated and ours hadn't - maybe because ours was the 2 bedroom suite - .
