This property advertised an included breakfast, I see it still does, a fruit fresh bowl and coffee does not constitute a breakfast by any means. If you advertise it, give it. There is a sign saying the kitchen is out of order, so dont offer a breakfast, it is false advertising. Otherwise the staff were ok, seems a family a friend business, the rooms ok, we did get an upgrade, and it was appreciated. The hotel is convenient to most transport and attractions. A bit of effort and they will have a great business.

False advertising for non existing breakfast

The staff are outstanding. I like the fact that this is a carbon neutral property. Fittings are of good quality. Appealing framed black and white photos of Melbourne in the corridors. Charming prints in the dining area. A book nook with comfortable chairs and a gas fireplace with electric flames. Breakfast is good. I had Eggs Benedict and enjoyed them.

This is my favorite hotel in Melbourne however I took me some time to find it on Booking.com It would have been good to be able to search by hotel name

Great and Convenient location close to Southern Cross Station. Great size room and very comfortable. Arrived very early and was unable to check in being early was able to stow my bags and the Check in staff were lovely offering me free Coffee and snack and was able to sit in the little lounge area

Air Con unit in my room 405 didn’t work, no big deal as I didn’t need it however wasn’t working, but informed staff on Check out.

Staff are great, though it is an older hotel, rooms are comfortable and with a small fridge, microwave and toaster as an added bonus. Southern Cross station is nearby and trams are right outside the front door. There is a coffee machine and both still and sparkling water available in the dining area.

My only quibble would be the shower door was very narrow which did make it difficult getting in and out, otherwise nothing wrong.

The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and met our expectations.

Upon arrival the staff at the front desk was not very friendly. She did let us leave our bags there before checking us in. When we came back to check in she was on the phone with whom we assume was her boss complaining about a college. She then continued this conversation in front of not only us but other guests before excusing her self to the other room and asking for a college to manage the desk.

Location! At the Southern Cross end of Bourke St, so very convenient for getting around Melbourne, and access to public transport. And so quiet despite being in the centre of town and so close to the railway station. Room was a great size, and the bed was extremely comfortable. And the shower had just the right amount of pressure!

The bathroom needed a more careful clean/check - other people's hair on the tiles in the cubicle, and the body and hand soap container in the shower was empty.

I liked the slightly rough around the edges feel of this hotel, that appears to be independently owned rather than clinical and corporate. Not part of a profit seeking chain.

Reception is a bit different and a little makeshift but at least the staff are genuine and not reciting lines from a training session.

The location very close to the train station was excellent. The bedding and towels were very clean. The room was comfortable and had a pleasant view from the window.

There was no information in the room, including no contact number for Reception. So, I had to keep going downstairs, for example, when I found that the tissue box had only one tissue left and no extra box had been left in the room, and then again when I realised that the wi-fi passcode was not posted in the room. Also, there is nobody at Reception after 11 pm, so if you need anything after that time, you've missed out.

I appreciated the nook I could relax in after the visit to the CBC. The fab coffee on tap and available fruit. Breakfast needed more variety for the older person who can’t have spicy or gluten. More fruit options perhaps. I did enjoy the Bircher. I loved the photos and interesting painting. All very in keeping with the historical building.Perhaps a small summery of the history of the building would help your fab hotel standout from the crowd. They are all birboring the same these days. I loved my stay and recommend it to people in Newcastle.

Location & connectivity - very close to southern cross station/skybus terminal. Free tram station stops in front of the hotel too. Amenities - fully equipped with everything we need. Kitchenette & laundry (coin operated) Room size - big enough for the two of us Cleanliness - very good & up to our expectation
