This is our 2nd stay at the Grand and we have always spoken very highly about this hotel to all our friends We shall certainly wish for the chance of another trip and stay in this hotel as it is one of the best we have found to stay in within the city of Melbourne. It is also very close to train stations and the river, we found so many restaurants close by. Thank you for all that the Grand offers to make guests feel relaxed and happy most of all the warm welcome we receive each time we come in through the main doors of the hotel from the lovely reception staff. Thank you Grand Hotel and we shall wish to come back again.

nothing everything was lovely for us

I was very impressed with the room which turned out to be an apartment. I was thrilled to get such a good place to stay at such a good rate. I will stay here again. The apartment had everything and I thought this would be a good place to live, however I am searching for a house to buy, at the moment and need to find something quick so have to move on. The only issue I had was the first two days I could not get into the pool because the key pad and card swipe was not working and I could not get the reception to help me because it was 6am when I went and there is no reception at this time. I only got to use the pool once when a receptionist was there who showed me a button to press which you could reach behind where you couldn't see. They need to fix it because I would have liked to have gone to the pool each day instead of just the once. The pool it self is good and I enjoyed the spa very much. I was able to soothe my aches and pains. I will stay here again for sure. The man at reception with an Irish accent who called me a taxi when I checked out was good and has such a lovely smile which I noticed as I got into the taxi.

I couldn't fault the place and look forward to staying there again.

I had a fantastic stay at The Grand Hotel Melbourne. The staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and helpful throughout—truly a highlight of the experience. My one-bedroom apartment was spacious, clean, and beautifully styled, with everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The mix of heritage charm and modern amenities made it feel like a home away from home. Highly recommended!

The Grand Hotel Melbourne offers beautiful rooms and excellent service, but the gym was a letdown. It’s quite small, with limited equipment and outdated machines—not ideal if you’re looking to maintain a regular workout routine. Everything else about the stay was lovely, but the fitness facilities could definitely use an upgrade.

A really interesting and hugely spacious hotel having been converted from the offices of the original steam railway company. The staff, & especially the manager Dennis, were particularly friendly and helpful. The suites were very spacious and well equipped and the bed very comfortable.

The location is awesome. An easy tram ride up Flinders St to Fed Square or NGV, up Collins Street to Regent Theatre and up Bourke St for shopping, Princess Theatre or Melbourne Museum. Walking distance to DFO and Marcel stadium. We did it all from this wonderful place to stay. We had a kitchenette so could make breakfast saving us $$$ to dine out. A grand old building with a pool and spa, lovely library beside lobby. We did not hear any guest noise and given its location was surprised not to hear trains all night. Dennis meets and greets you daily, the loveliest of blokes. So much old world charm staying here and we got a really, really reasonable rate. Our room was even ready when we arrived early. Staying at the Grand really made our Christmas in the City getaway.

I liked the spaciousness and the kitchen was well supplied with crockery etc. The bed was comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good location with train and trams within easy walking distance. I loved the historic feel of the building.

I didn't expect the bathroom and bedroom to be on the mezzanine floor with 15 steps to get there. The microwave was on top of the fridge so I couldn't reach that and I wondered if it was there because it wasn't working. I should have asked someone to get it down but kept forgetting.

This was a great experience, our studio apartment was huge, very well equipped, very comfortable, a very nice experience - an old elegant hotel in great shape. Usually old colonial hotels can be a bit seedy - not this one - it was great. The owner greeted us personally, extremely friendly, informative and attentive. The staff were great too - very friendly and helpful. Melbourne sprawls a bit - but we were able to walk most places we wanted to go The restaurant next door is no longer a part of the hotel and is an Indian restaurant. The clientele were mostly Indian which is always a good sign - the food was outstanding.

This was my third stay at this hotel and it still doesn't disappoint. After booking a studio apartment, I received an upgrade to a 1 bedroom apartment overlooking Spencer Street, which had a very pleaseant vista from the balcony. The 12 foot ceilings give a grand feeling to the room, but the basic decor helps to make it feel a little homely insetad of like an echo chamber. Whilst the overall presentation of my room was getting a little tired, it was still well maintained and clean. Housekeeping only comes to your room every second day, but I had a short stay, so I didn't interact with them during my stay. I arrived by rail from Sydney and the hotel is a short and very convenient walk from Souther Cross Station, which is also the terminal for the airport shuttle. If you're exploring the city, there is a tram stop nearby on Spencer Street or you can catch the free City Cricle tram from the stop on Flinders Street, both less than a block from the front door of the hotel. It's also very handy to Southbank, Marvel Stadium and the city CBD, making it an excellent base for touring around Melbourne city.

I was disappointed to learn that since my last stay, the restaurant within the hotel has changed to an external provider and now only does lunch and dinner. A breakfast option in the hotel itself would be great, especially if you don't really feel like wandering up the street in the rain in search of a cafe for breakfast. Not an issue for me, but some guests may notice some street noise at times on the Spencer Street side of the hotel. It is, after all, in the heart of the city, which doesn't stop at night. The double glazing goes go a long way to cancelling this out, but lighter sleepers might still notice some noise bleed through.

This is our favourite place to stay in the city. Close to public transport and shopping areas. Very comfortable and large sized rooms. Nice restaurant and pool. We stay here at least twice every year to attend events in Melbourne, and each time, the staff have been amazing.

The room we were given this time had a shower over the bath. It was slippery and difficult for someone with a spine injury to climb in and out of without assistance. We will ask for a walk-in shower in the bathroom option next stay.

I was completely over whelmed with the kindness, support and care that both the senior receptionist and owner showed me and my daughter, and her friend. My daughter had some struggles that she was dealing with, and the care and love that was shown to me with the booking, and to my daughter during her stay was absolutely exceptional. I can not thank the staff enough !! I will be telling all my family, friends and colleagues about this amazing hotel and the exceptional service that we received. I have made another booking for my daughter and her friend for New Years Eve, and knowing that they will be safe at the Grand Hotel makes me feel so much better.

I honestly don't think there was anything that my daughter or I disliked.
