Great hotel. It’s in the middle of Madrid and close to everything. We stayed in a suite which was absolutely massive. Easy to get to hotel for a city centre after a long drive. They speak English at reception but no need as my wife speaks Spanish now after watching YouTube Learn Spanish while you sleep. They park the car for you which was embarrassing because I’d just blown off in the car and the valet got straight in. I hope he opened a window. The porter brought the luggage to the room and at first refused to take the 2 Euro tip I offered him and even asked if we need anything further. We went to a lovely plaza a few blocks away and my wife asked someone in pure Spanish if they sell cigarettes nearby The friendly person pointed us towards the station where we bought cigarettes, 4 snickers bars and a bottle of Pepsi max. Nice part of Madrid and would go again.

It’s a nice hotel.

The staff were fab and very helpful. The food options were perfect. The hotel was spotless. The location was on the edge of central which was perfect for us - accessible but quiet. A short stroll to Sol and Grand Via.

Not a dislike, just an observation. The rooftop pool area is smaller than we expected - just 6 loungers in the sun trap, other chairs in the shade and not really room to pull them out. It worked ok for us but if you plan to spend a lot of time up there, or if you are part of a larger group, it’s just something to consider.

Excellent location center of Madrid. Beautiful, classy hotel, nicely, classically decorated. Very nice common facilities, featuring a wonderful museum of ancient roman mosaics. Very friendly reception staff. Excellent adjacent hotel "tapas" restaurant.

(Very) expensive breakfast, with disappointing choice and quality (there are excellent places in the direct neighborhood for 1/2 or even 1/3 of the price.) Rooms should have a bit more choice of drinks (e.g., tea), and more coffee capsules as well. Our room was lacking a standing or reading lamp (when one partner wants to sleep and the other read).

This hotel is a real gem. From the minute we stepped inside we were warmly greeted with staff who were only too happy to accommodate us. I didn’t like the room we were allocated as I wanted a balcony - within minutes a lovely staff member arrived and brought me to see another room which was perfect. Each and every member of staff, from reception to housekeeping, food to beverages made our stay one of be remembered The room we stayed in was superb with a complimentary minibar, fantastic air conditioning (which was needed when the temperature hit 36) and the most divine view. It was at the front of the hotel with a small balcony, perfect for people watching. The breakfast was excellent with a wide range of dishes available, hot and cold. Again, the staff treated us like we were the only customers there, being so attentive even though they had many other customers to cater for. If I’m lucky enough to visit Madrid again, I will definitely stay at Hotel Villa Real without hesitation. What makes this hotel (aside from its location, food and facilities) is the staff. Each and every one of them could not have been kinder. I wish I could remember the names of each individual to thank them. All I can say is that every staff member is an asset to this hotel: reception staff, housekeeping, breakfast, concierge, restaurant. A particular shout out must go to the young man originally from Barcelona who brought us to our room, he catered to our every whim and went above and beyond to ensure that we were happy with our room. Thank you.

Better soundproofing of the room door is needed. Our room was beside the lifts therefore it’s understandable that we would hear noise due to the traffic. However, it sometimes felt that there was someone in the room with us as the noise was quite loud.

Great location close to cafes and restaurants. Very friendly and helpful staff organising taxi and restaurant recommendations. Very quick to resolve a problem with the shower. Stayed in the duplex family suite and loved the terrace late in the afternoon and early evening.

Outside the hotels control but outside noise was an issue. The plaza is being remodelled so construction noise during the day. Skateboards outside the hotel was distracting but you got used to it.

I booked through the Booking.com office with a cost of 675 euros, the payment should have been upon arrival, I indicated the details of the bank card as a guarantee. On December 28, the hotel was independently charged 263.61 euros. Upon arrival at the hotel, they offer to pay another 675 euros. My offer to pay at the hotel 675- 263.61 is refused, promising to return 263.61 immediately after paying for the stay. I pay 675 euros with the same card. We leave the hotel on January 4, we remind you about 263.61 euros, the girl promises that the money will automatically return to the card immediately after our departure. 4 days have passed, the money has not been returned to the card. I am writing an appeal to the hotel's support service - they do not respond.

Location, location, location! Hotel is very nice, clean and well kept. Bar downstairs is amazing, food is excellent. We didn’t try breakfast though, so can’t say anything about it.

The only problem we had with is to get a decent size of coffee in the morning. In Madrid all the cafes around hotel open at least at 8 and later. I would expect hotel of such high class at least provide with ability to get some coffee at the lobby. We ended up ordering room service just for coffee, which is 14 Euros and on top of that we were bagging them to give us more than just enough coffee for espresso shots.

A gem of a classic hotel feels steeped in history and if you want modern the 5 floor only will do City views at the front are full of the city’s hustle and bustle, if you want peace and quiet the back of the hotel has it providing you don’t mind looking down at the restaurant or across to some rather shabby looking apartments

Great staff, very helpful and friendly, sublimely comfortable bed, excellent breakfasts, wonderful location, great little restaurant in the hotel with really good food (saved us having to find somewhere away from the hotel after very tiring days in museums and walking around the beautiful city) and the very lovely decor including the little museum inside the hotel en route to the breakfast. And a bonus of lovely soft water for bathing and showering. I had taken my own travel kettle for wake up tea but could have been provided with one if I had asked.

The shower and shower/bath controls could be improved with instructions on usage and it would have been good to have a blanket available to put over the duvet on the one very cold night. A very minor point was the toast provided with eggs at breakfast - very pretty presentation but not toasted enough so we ordered separate toast as well.
