Amazing location. Really nice room with a great view

The recent history of scandals. Once we read about them we felt bad staying there. The staff could have been a bit warmer. The 4pm check-in is ridiculously late.

The location is excellent on the Place d'Opera, and our room had a side view onto the Place. The bathroom was well appointed, although it was very small. The beds were very comfortable, and the room was a good size. We enjoyed a drink in the View Bar although the service was rather slow. Breakfast had a good choice with wonderful fresh orange juice. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We saw quite a few different people at the reception desk and every one was charming.

The air conditioning didn't work, so we had to keep the window open regardless of the noise from the Place. We were rather shocked to see some children enter the breakfast room in their night clothes, this didn't seem appropriate for a four star hotel, or indeed any hotel. The hotel is a little bit overpriced, but nevertheless we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return.

The location. Once we had got our bearings everything was in easy reach. The interior design was lovely and breakfast was very nice although overpriced at €20 per head. The staff were very friendly and helpful but one did forget to order our taxi (good job I checked) and we were also overcharged for something else but this was rectified very quickly. Housekeeping staff were more than helpful and worked very hard to ensure that rooms are clean and comfortable.

The huge “security deposit”. Totally over the top and overpriced. You also need to warn people about the air raid siren test as it really frightened me. It would be good to have directions in the room on how to contact reception and what buses go where etc. and places of interest.

Fantastic location, wonderful building with spacious rooms. Staff absolutely fantastic - brilliant bar in the property. We had a small issue with the wrong champagne being left in room for us, and opened this without realising. After popping down to reception, the correct bottle was delivered with an apology! Faultless service, even if I’d been asked to pay for the bottle we opened incorrectly ( and would have happily done so) , the way it was dealt with by the reception staff with fantastic. Every member of staff we encountered for polite, professional and friendly.

Absolutely nothing

We were very lucky and got upgraded to a Junior Suite through Booking.com! It was elegantly decorated, spacious and spoiling. The gentleman on reception was efficient and charming and we were offered complimentary drinks in the panoramic bar and given a fantastic recommendation for dinner in a local 'Moules' restaurant. Unfortunately, we had to leave very early, but the breakfast looked amazing! Great location, right next to the major central square of the city - filled with beautiful buildings, restaurants and open spaces

Nothing!

We arrived in Lille by Eurostar and were able to easily walk to the Hotel Carlton, despite rather large and heavy suitcases. The hotel is very well situated for exploring Lille's Old Town on foot and there are lots of restaurants within very easy reach. The hotel is elegant and our room was a very good size. The bed was comfortable (though perhaps a little firmer than we like), there was a good bathoom with a very generously sized bath and an over-bath shower. The toilet was sited in a separate cubicle. The room also had a small minibar. The breakfast buffet was good and the staff were friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our (brief) stay.

The only slight problem was that there is no screen around the over-bath shower, which was very effective, and therefore tended to spray everything in site, if one was not very careful. There is a seat in the bath at the furthest point from the rest of the room, but one has to stand up at some point and this could be a bit of a problem.

The hotel is perfectly located in the centre of Lille, and appears classy, even with a touch of luxury. The building is probably quite old, the floors in the rooms seemed particularly old (uneven) but for me it only added to the charm of the place :) The rooms are very comfortable, everything is functional. The breakfast was a bit pricey, the quality of food was good but there wasn't too much of a choice.

A rather huge deposit was requested upon check-in (which was indeed noted on the reservation), but the reception staff refused to accept cash payment; finally they agreed but it was not a very nice experience.

Stunning hotel with a beautiful view of the opera house, was gorgeous waking up to each morning and very central location, short distance from both train stations and restaurants. Come to breakfast with an appetite, it is divine, all fresh and delicious. Staff so friendly, helpful and recommended areas and a restaurants to enjoy in the evening. Will definitely return.

The rain shower in our bathroom was not working which was a shame and our water was not refilled which was disappointing.

Great location in the centre of Lille and in a beautiful building. You will probably take pictures of it even if you do not stay in the hotel. Stylish and attractive common areas, lobby, bar, restaurant. The room felt larger than expected.

The only reason I have chosen Carlton, not other hotels, is that I needed a room in the centre with car parking. All nearby hotels have either 'No parking available' or 'Private parking is possible at a location nearby'. Carlton is the only one that advertises 'Private parking is possible on site'. This is not true! It is at a location nearby. It is not far. With light luggage, you will not even notice. But if you drag two heavy suitcases on cobblestones, you will. And it annoys me that I have not considered other places only because they gave true description of their hotels. From the moment my sat-nav indicated 10 minutes to the destination, it took me more than an hour, so jammed the centre was. Rather modest room furnishings.

A real event, the decor was lush and opulent. Although spacious, a very intimate feel to the building. Wasn’t expecting to eat our breakfast in the View Bar, but it was great. Room was well appointed and get comfortable.

Would have been ideal to have the parking details on hand when we were searching for the ‘hotel car park’, we couldn’t find the entrance and ended up parking a little distance away. Not the end of the world, but something one doesn’t need after a long day travelling.
