The host was very welcoming and friendly. We stayed in one of the private rooms which are located on the second floor. It had 3 beds. These are perfect for traveling families . Plenty of towels and wash clothes provided. They even provided tea, coffee machine, juice , yogurt and pastry . The kitchen has everything you would need. The facilities were very clean. The best part is how close to the activities in the area it is. About 10 min from the glacier lagoon and diamond beach. We would recommend to stay here if you are doing any glacial or ice cave activities.

The only thing was I could not sleep well at all. There is loud noise from the outside when cars pass over these metal rods near the entrance. Walls are very thin. And it was extremely warm inside the place. We tried to open the window to let cool air in but the window didn’t stay open. I was a sweaty miserable mess lol

Location was just great! Just off the ring road and so near to the Jokulsarlon lagoon and the surrounding activities which we booked (eg Glacier Adventure). So it is really a great base although it was pricey due to its location. But no regrets as it saved us travelling time and more resting time! We had 2 rooms that were next to each other. The whole hostel is very clean (we see the staff hard at work and the place smelling great) and the kitchen has excellent amenities for simple cooking. Enjoyed the coffee on the house and the excellent Icelandic happy marriage cake. Overall a very comfortable stay for 2 nights for 5 of us!

It would be good to have more hanging racks in the room.

It was very cozy and atmospheric. A large kitchen was available for cooking. The room was quite spacious. Free tea, a coffee machine, juice, and yogurt were provided. Additionally, a traditional Icelandic cake was baked for the guests, which was a very nice gesture. Products were also offered for purchase in case you didn’t make it to the supermarket.

With full occupancy, the two bathrooms can be a bit busy. In the kitchen there are not a frying pan and an oven.

The location is good for joining tours from “Glacier Adventure” and you will get a discount from the Hostel. Moreover, you might see the Aurora light if you’re lucky enough. Furthermore, the WiFi network was strong. Also, you will meet different people around the world. If you forgot to buy some food before your arrival, 1. the hostel had a shelf in the shared kitchen which sells food; 2. there was a restaurant nearby. At last, feel free to enjoy the welcome cake and drinks.

The location is too far away from the shops and gas station: driving to the west for an hour, there is a gas station which sells food as well and closes at 20:00; driving to the east for an hour, you will arrive Höfn and the supermarket Nettó closes at 19:00. Also, the cellar network was weak inside the house. Moreover, on the ground floor, there was two bathrooms: the smaller one in the end had strong ventilation and it was cold; the bigger one near the shared kitchen had weak ventilation and it was easy to fog up the room.

A lot of positives for this hostel! Communication prior to check in was quick and clear. The hostel is extremely clean (including shared bathrooms) and well kept. We got to enjoy free welcome cake, orange juice, skyr and milk, as well as unlimited coffee and tea. The beds were super comfortable and rooms were cozy (which is key in the Islandia winter). Finally, because this hostel is located in a “remote” location, we had the privilege of catching the northern lights at 3am!

On our second day, there was no hot water. It could’ve been a temporary damage but I couldn’t validate this with the staff as we had to leave early that day. Additionally, we had a shared room for the 4 of us and it felt super tight (no space beneath the non bunk beds to store our luggage and have space to move around with comfort). Because we are all friends we could make it work but I wonder if it would be as comfortable for 4 strangers sharing the same room.

Remote property, but close enough to Jokusarlton and Diamond Beach! The hostel was exceptionally clean and smelled great! Check in was VERY easy and the rooms were nice and spacious! Beds were so soft and comfy! The bathrooms were clean and enough for all residents! Never had to wait for someone to get out! Exceptional stay for a great value! Perfect location for Aurora watching, we witnessed them the night we stayed! Amazing experience!!!

I like it that is cosy, warm, the host is lovely and they offer things like yogurt and cake that you can enjoy for free - probably this is not something that always happen but we where there we had it.

I wouldn’t recommend the place to see the northern lights because there is too much light all around and you need darkness to see them. When we were there we had northern lights activity! They were in the sky but the lighting around made it so difficult to see them and this is not the hostal fault is just that all around there’s a restaurant, places to hire ice cave tours and many other things with soooo much light that’s a shame

This hostel exceeded my expectations and was a wonderful base for 2 nights to explore the Vatnajokull area. We stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom. The room was lovely and the bed was super comfortable. Every was well maintained and clean. The kitchen was very well fitted out and had lovely touches like coffee, tea, juice and welcome cake! The manager was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We were also lucky to be in the region for a couple of sunny, clear days so could make use of the picnic tables outside. I cannot recommend this highly enough!

Not a complaint as it didn't really impact us, just a note for travellers - his kitchen space is a little small and a peak times was rather crowded.

Nice location and very nice hosts. Clean, convenient space with most of needed services. Great idea with with free coffee tea and skyr for guests!

I did not like the price :) Never paid so much for a room with bunkbeds in my life, but this part of Iceland is VERY expensive. Great that they have kitchen available, but no frying aloud and there are limited number of tables available for your meal, so sometimes you had to wait.

We spent two nights at Skyrhusid, which was more like a guesthouse than a hostel. We had a clean and comfortable room with a view of the mountains, and the shared bathrooms were spotlessly clean. The kitchen had limited space for the number of people using it but it still worked well and we appreciated the dishwasher. The Manager was very lovely, friendly and helpful. It was also a great place to see the Aurora due to its remote location. Saying that, it was still only 15 minutes drive to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. All in all, a great place to stay.
