June 2025

We had a fantastic time, the room was so comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The blackout curtains worked really well as the sun never really goes down in June, but we were able to get a good night's sleep every night without noticing how much daylight there was outside. We didn't spend much time in the room itself, but we had climate control to keep it comfortable, we were able to have fresh air, and the bathroom was always kept warm and very clean. Our room had a mini fridge, a coffee pod machine, an ironing board, and the ability to dim the lights to mimic evening and sunset to help us adjust to the fact the sun didn't go down. The breakfast was great, there was so much choice, from pastries, cakes, yoghurt, Skyr, and other sweet choices, to fruits and healthy options, to hot food. The food is expensive in Iceland as a rule, but it is worth noting that you absolutely get what you pay for. The quality of the restaurant was great, and we also enjoyed some wonderful dinners there when we got back late from day trips. The hotel is in a brilliant location near 2 bus stops, Bus stop 2 opposite the hotel, and Bus stop 3 on the same side of the road just 1 min further down. We were able to easiy navigate the city from there, and visit the museums and Hallgrimmskirkja, and all the shops and bars we wanted to visit. It was also very close (10-15mins walk) from Ingolfur Square where the walking tours begin. We loved being so close to everything and having the transport links right there. It is also only 20mins walk from the main bus station through a gorgeous park, if anyone would prefer to walk it rather than take a taxi or shuttle.

This is more about us and less about the hotel, but we found the light switches a bit confusing at first (they have dimmer options, and controlled different areas of the room, but were buttons rather than switches!) and the coffee pod machine also took a while to work out! But we figured it all out in the end. For anyone who prefers to sleep at cooler temperatures, the minimum temp we could set the room temp control to was 18°C. Not a complaint just a note! We had a great time and we will definitely be coming back.

The Saga Hotel is in an excellent location for walking around the centre and port of Reykjavik. The rooms were a good size, quiet and well appointed. The reception staff were very helpful and nothing was too much bother. The breakfast was adequate and we liked that there was proper sourdough bread available.

The breakfast became a bit repetitive after a week. Only having a choice of bacon, sausage and eggs as the cooked offering was a bit limited. The person who invented the light switches in the bedroom and bathroom clearly was a designer with little understanding of how people use light switches! They were overly complex and the concept of "on" and "off" was an almost unattainable dream!! We got over it in the end... :)

Excellent location in the city center. In general, the breakfast was good, but there were a few issues (see below). Housekeeping was very good. There is no hotel parking, but there are several nearby options. The best one is the P3 zone, which is the cheapest during weekdays and completely free on weekends.

Breakfast: The selection of hot dishes was always the same. You have to pay extra for any coffee such as espresso or cappuccino. Only Americano is included in the breakfast price. Gym: The gym is very small, suitable only for cardio and dumbbell use.

Amazing breakfast, very kind and helpful staff, incredible restaurant to have dinner, and just a 3 minutes walk from Bus Stop #1, where most tours depart from (Bus Stop #2 is equally close). It’s also just a small walk from the city center, hence definitely a great location. If you find the hotel’s restaurant too expensive, there are cheaper and very good alternatives nearby. The room we stayed at was cozy, equipped, and included basic amenities, like Nespresso coffee capsules and tea bags.

The location is amazing. Walking distance to the town and attractions. Close to bus pick up locations for tours further out in Iceland. Family suit is so spacious and very clean. The beds are very comfortable.

The room service options are a bit lacking, especially for children options. The hotel restaurant is expensive and also was usually booked up by people not staying at the hotel. We went at Christmas so this impacted the availability but it would have been nice to have a reserve at the restaurant for hotel guests. Could do with a hot tub or small pool. Hot chocolate for kids should be included in breakfast, not an extra charge, as there was no hot drink other than coffee available. Pull out sofa bed should be fitted with a mattress topper to help with comfort.

The Saga is in a great location to explore Reykjavik on foot. Street parking was easy for us to find but we see how it could be difficult late at night for instance. The hotel is chic and modern as one would expect for a boutique. The staff is gracious and helpful. The rooms are larger than one would expect and have windows that open for ventilation, a novel idea many other lodging places in Iceland have not thought of yet. The breakfast is above and beyond all expectation, nearly overwhelming, so many pastries and breads along with the standard fair, so much food! We stayed 2 nights, one at each end of our drive around the ring road and will stay there again when next in Reykjavik.

My guess is others will mention the lack of parking though we had no problem. Download Easypark or Parka to make paying easier, but its still not cheap. I saw parking under the hotel though I have no idea how to access it and it was never offered and I had no need to ask.

The property was located perfectly 👌 close enough to the buzz of town but also super quiet at night. The water near the hotel is a beautiful walk in the AM to see the birds and do get the breakfast option if you're able - it will easily save you a few bucks on food (which is pricey) and the spread in the morning is amazing quality - especially the coffee. The room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated - but do bring a converter for your plugins (im US based). The staff was awesome, the hotel is beautifully decorated - we'll definitely be staying at the Saga upon our return!

Location is perfect, right in the heart of Reykjavik. Reception staff and most of restaurant staff were very friendly Hotel is nice and quiet, rooms are good and the bathrooms excellent

Parking is a pain. You have to constantly pay for on street parking in different zones around the hotel. Local App is good but parking charges are from 9am and you have to remember when you wake up. At weekends you might have to park a good walk from the hotel. Bit of an obsession with checking if you are eligible for breakfast. This went on for a few days. Our room was too hot, we had to have the window open all the time which given the main road location and the noisy studded tyres on cars this meant broken sleep most nights

The property was located central and close to everything we needed I.e. restaurants and shops. Everything was a stones throw away. The property was also nicely decorated and comfortable to reside in, and was close for excursion pickups.

The only two things which mildly bothered me were that the studio room was almost road level so could be noisy in the evenings / we rarely had the curtains open for the same reason. Additionally, you had to request a room clean everyday when most hotels do this anyway. Since we were busy sometimes I’d forget to ask for this. Thankfully we had enough toiletries / towels to carry us over.

One of the better hotels we’ve stayed with in Iceland, at the end of our 14+ days on the ring road. The premium was big and comfy. The service staff are good. It’s a short 1.5 minute walk to bus stop 3 where several tour companies pick their passengers up.

There’s no shower door or curtain by design so the toilet can get a little wet. You’ll have to park on the street or in garages which can be a little confusing when you first arrive at Reykjavík. There’s an uphill walk to the most central part of town.
