The location close to the station, ferry and town centre was perfect. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

The property has very thick walls so the Wi-fi was patchy. The old Italian sockets should be replaced with EU standard 2 pin sockets as it’s difficult/ dangerous to use them. The breakfast was very carb heavy. Some salad would be great.

We needed a room for 3, it was small with 3 beds but spotless and had everything we needed. Bathroom/shower was larger than others we had on the trip. I was a little concerned from other reviews but we had a great stay here. No view but Varenna is tiny and views are easy to get, you don't want to stay in your room! We had a nice courtyard right outside our door by a trail that winds above the town. And it's close to the train station. Breakfast was lovely, the facilities are in great condition. We also were worried about the wifi, my son had a job interview while we were there. The room had a small desk and good light, and the wifi was fine for him.

Mateo at the desk was so gracious and helpful! The room was clean and comfortable. The location was close to everything the town had to offer and a short walk to the train station. There was a small quiet courtyard with tables, chairs, and umbrellas where we took our coffee after breakfast. And the breakfast was great! Lots of options!

The noise from the street is a problem. Another guest suggested I try earplugs after my sleep was ruined the first night by the noise from trucks, motorcycles, and even people talking as they walked past. That helped a lot. There is also too much light coming through the window from the street lights right outside. It's as bright as sunrise all night long. There are only sheer panels over the window. Adding a light blocking curtain would fix that problem easily.

It was a short walk from the train station and very easy to find. The staff on reception were lovely and gave us great advice on places to visit. The bed was comfortable, and there were plenty of toiletries provided. The hotel was quiet at night which was good.

The only negative for us was the breakfast. Everything was running out and not being replaced. Even plates and cutlery. Maybe more staff in the kitchen would improve this.

We chose this hotel because it's a short walk from the train station, which is how we traveled. Our room was quite small but the double bed was large. The room our kids stayed in had 2 single beds and their room was larger than ours. The staff members were very helpful and professional. The breakfast was good for being included, although eggs were served only some of the time. We appreciated the gluten free choices.

The air conditioner fan worked but the air did not seem like it was any colder than room temperature. The bathroom had no ventilation other than opening the windows, and I did not like to open it more than a crack most of the time because of mosquitos. A window screen would be useful. I am a short petite person and even I found the shower to be too small.

We were based in the nearby partner hotel Beretta not Montecodeno which was easy to get to by train, a short walk from Varenna train station. We had the family room which was a good size with a balcony and close to the lake, and although basic it was fine for us. Good breakfast. Although it is over a bar, the bar wasn't open late so no noise at night, apart from Saturday night when there was some music late from an adjacent property.

No real complaints, for the price we thought the room was good.

We originally booked Hotel Montecodeno, but due to reconstruction we’re placed at Hotel Barretta just down the road. Check in was at the bar/cafe/tobacconist below the hotel. This check in experience was not the most personal due to the amount of people in the bar and the volume of music (it was Friday night). We actually enjoyed drinks and snacks in the bar throughout our stay and the staff were nice (just not check in). Breakfast was served in the cafe/bar too which was decent. Service was a tad slower than some may expect as locals and hotel guests were served at the same time. We were there in the off season so imagine things might be different at peak tourist season.

Perfect location, close to the train station and the ferry wharf. Simple walk into the main part of Varenna. Friendly staff made things easy. Breakfast included made the morning starts even easier.

Bit of TLC is needed over the winter season to improve the rooms could be good. Otherwise, for the price, I'm not sure you could find a better place to stay!

Nice hotel just in a 2 minute walk from the lake and from ferry station, with great breakfast. Bed is very comfortable and it is very nice to have shutters on the window. Heating and its settings were functioning very well. Hosts are very kind and helpful, cleaning during our stay was awesome. Glad that we could leave our luggages before check-in.

Room was a bit dated, definetely could use some update. Pillows are very thin and was uncomfortable to sleep on, walls are thin so you can hear everything that is happening next door. We also missed some egg options from breakfast.

A very acceptable affordable hotel in a handy location for the station and the waterfront and ferry. The staff were lovely and gave us a quiet room because I was worried about noise. When we were there it was very peaceful with no street noise. The hotel was sparkling clean, the bed was comfortable and breakfast was good.

Nothing really - maybe it’s time to move away from tiny bottles of shampoo etc and although there was fresh fruit at breakfast, ideally I would have liked a fruit salad or some prepared fruit if possible.
