We recently had the pleasure of staying at Olivedo Hotel in Varenna, and it was an unforgettable experience. The location is simply unbeatable—right opposite the ferry terminal, making it incredibly convenient to explore Lake Como and its surrounding towns. Waking up to the view of the lake each morning was a delight. The breakfast at Olivedo Hotel was another highlight. It was absolutely awesome, with a wide variety of delicious options that catered to all tastes. Whether you’re a fan of a hearty meal or prefer something lighter, the spread was more than satisfying. The staff at the hotel were also very pleasant. They were always ready to assist with a smile and made sure that every aspect of our stay was comfortable. Their local recommendations, especially for nearby restaurants, were spot on. Speaking of restaurants, the hotel’s proximity to fabulous dining options was a huge plus. We were just a short walk away from some of the best eateries in Varenna, making dinner plans effortless. Overall, Olivedo Hotel is a fantastic choice for anyone visiting Lake Como. Its prime location, delightful breakfast, friendly staff, and closeness to top-notch restaurants make it a standout option. I highly recommend it!

The location, across the street from the ferry, was great for people watching. Also, a short easy walk from the train station. The room was very large and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and well staffed. Check in and out was smooth and quick. We also had an excellent meal in the hotel’s restaurant next door.

The location of this hotel was great, right across from the ferry. The downside was: it was right across from the ferry. We were surprised by how much exhaust a ferry produces. Also: they can be noisy. But the view was stupendous, and it was an easy walk along the water to shopping and restaurants and gelato. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful.

The room we had was in the "annex"--it was recently added? or remodeled, but it was also a bit stark. I was expecting from pictures online to be in the main building with more traditional decor like crown molding, etc. The tea service on the desk was a little dusty.

Excellent hotel and staff. Full of character. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. The balcony view of Lake Como was simply stunning. Fantastic breakfast with hot and cold options. Great location for ferry, train station and lake views. Fantastic a la carte restaurant next door.

The only negative is that our room had no curtains to block out the light at night-time. Could be a big issue for light sleepers. Being so close to the ferry terminal, it does get busy with people and vehicles getting on the ferries. We did not mind this but others may prefer a quieter location.

The most charming and well located hotel we’ve stayed in!!! Absolutely loved every moment in this old style Italian hotel on the majestic Lake Como!! We had a balcony and gorgeous views!! The breakfast was superb - lots to chose from - including various eggs/bacon upon request. Delicious homemade lemon cake and fresh croissants!! Yummy fruit as well as cold meats/cheeses and cereals. All sorts of coffees and juice available as well! Very charming and kind staff. We arrived tired after a long day of travel and were delighted to be presented with a cold beer!! (then they booked us into a neighbouring restaurant as we’d arrived quite late! So kind & helpful)! A wonderful welcome to Italy!!! Had been dreaming of staying in this gorgeous hotel and it definitely delivered!! Loved looking out over the lake and also was so easy to arrive via train and then catch the ferry to various towns on the lake!! Highly recommended!!!

Excellent location - Varenna ferry terminal is just right in front of the property - train & bus stations are within walking distance. Good breakfast in the morning but each guest is only entitled to 1 egg daily. I was rudely told off by the staff on my 2nd morning 🙄 Great shout out to TT & Martina for taking great care of me during my entire stay. Thanks TT for the lovely gift ♥️

Hate dragging myself for breakfast in the morning - 2 staffs in particular (the Asian lady & the guy with mustache) were extremely indifferent & unfriendly. They simply didn’t greet guests and the service was purely suck! Housekeeping was so so - no replenishment of room amenities (vanity kits & body lotion). Balcony grills were full of spider webs due to infrequent cleaning. Small & narrow shower room with low water pressure. Small & tiny elevator could only fit 3 guests at most - it took ages to reach my room on the 3rd floor.

Unbeatable location, although it can get a little loud as it is directly in front of the ferry stop. Several restaurant options all around and very centrally located. The room was way larger than I expected and we even had a covered balcony/sitting room with the best view of the sunset. The room stayed cool with all the windows opened, allowing for a nice breeze. Titti, the administrator, let us check-in early and was so helpful and sweet she even sent us off with a sack of breakfast as we left on the first bus out. I would hands down stay here again and hopefully for a longer stay next time. I highly recommend it.

The street noise.

Exactly opposite the Varenna port, close to restaurants, shops and supermarkets. You MUST get a balcony room! It is to die for. The rooms are old school, however give a sentimental touch to the beauty of lake Como. The owners are so beautiful and inviting, making the experience more worthwhile. Breakfast was amazing, we could order eggs our way and pancakes. A lot of variety. Bathroom is massive and so convenient.

The aircon was a bit funny, we couldn’t turn it on and off manually. The days we went were a bit cooler, therefore the aircon got way too cold for us at night. We had to leave the door a bit open in order to not get sick! Also our rooms hair dryer didn’t work which was a shame!

The trains stopped running From Milan to varenna the morning of our departure for maintenance and the city bus was a long wait in Lecco for varenna On the way there (about an hour). On the way home We only had 2 mins to get our train in Milan to Venezia because bus was 10 mins late in varenna and we missed the train in lecco going to Milan Because of it and had to wait another 40 mins for Lecco to milan train, So that was very stressful but we did make it thankfully. 😅 Make sure you know train schedule and bus if have yo catch a connection

The Breakfast was extravagant with lots of variety, fresh fruits, variety of fresh croisants, breads, yogurts, meats and cheese. You could order your eggs fresh in 3 ways, with bacon. Coffees were also individually made, all in an elegant Belle Epoque decor, with chandeliers and mirrors and lots of windows looking out over the ferry landing. The welcoming Concierge was cheerful and happy to help with my luggage going up a cobblestone Hill in a separate building. My room was brand new renovated with gorgeous views of the Lake Como Harbor. Wine, bottled water and Prosecco was in a small fridge. The Staff at the Hotel was very welcoming and warm-hearted. I loved my Stay of 3 nights at this Hotel in Varenna. Make sure you book the restaurant for evening meals well in advance as it’s wonderful.
