the location is perfect for spending time in George Town. it’s right on the edge of the hustle and bustle and sandwiched between two temples means you really feel the cultures around you, especially when the call to prayer echos around. There’s a great hawker and loads of delicious food options nearby too. The staff were really helpful and there was free filtered water and tea and coffee. We really loved our stay and would stay again if we go back to Penang

We booked the Superior double expecting it to be the downstairs room with terrace but it wasn’t and were a bit disappointing at first. The descriptions are a bit misleading and if this was updated to show that you can book a superior double with or without outdoor space it would remove this confusion. The property did kindly offer to switch us in the middle of our stay which was nice of them but we liked our second floor room and decided to stay rather than unpack and repack to swap rooms.

Great location n easy access to all parts of George Town. Dun even have to grab car, just walk... easy!!

There's some bar/pub nearby so the late night loud bass (muffled of course) might be disturbing to some

Really good location within George Town. All the famous street arts are minutes away, and so are the jetties. Tons of food options nearby. I liked the theme. True to the hotel's name, the rooms are not numbered, and instead are named after spices, which is a nice touch. You cant wear footwear inside the hotel (you can wear socks), but that was completely ok because the hotel was pretty clean.

Our room was not on the ground floor and there is no elevator, so you'll have to carry your luggage to the floor above if your room is there. But there are only two floors so at most you're climbing one flight of stairs. This also I guess means not exactly accessible if you have a disability where stairs are a problem. I would recommend reaching out to the hotel and asking for a room in the lower level if that's the case. There's also a mosque very close so you can hear the prayers that happen couple times a day. I live in the Middle East so I'm kinda used to this, but early morning its definitely not how I personally want to wake up during a vacation.

Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Beautiful and comfortable communal area downstairs. Perfect location in the old town, could walk everywhere. Beautifully renovated hotel, tea and coffee always available to make, use of fridge for milk. We had an upstairs room which was nice and airy(high ceiling). Very comfortable bed. We faced the street but it was quiet. You could hear the call to prayers (at 6am) from the mosque, but that was fine...just part of being in Georgetown! All in all a great place to stay. Highly recommended.

We were given a choice of rooms, the downstairs room we saw seemed a bit damp...(but the upstairs room was perfect).

Spices was recommended by a couple friend and we really like the aesthetic and decor. The hotel is in the center of the heritage zone, 5 minutes walk to Armenian St and Jalan Kapitan Keling. It's also like coming back home after a whole day of exploring and walking in Penang. The swing-benches outdoors and indoors are definitely signatures of the hotel.

When we arrived, front desk was unavailable, we rang the bell and no one attended to us for 10-15 minutes. We stayed for 4 nights and housekeeping was not offered, but we didn't request either. There is a club opposite the hotel, though sound proof was pretty well but you might see cars and rowdy people during late nights. For the amount we paid and the concept of the hotel, we thought it would be more spa-like, but the amenities were very minimal. We had the ground floor room but couldn't access the balcony/garden and outdoor seating directly outside our room, apparently it's accessible for other guests as well so we have to go the other way around to access it.

Very close to mosque and morning prayers beginning at dusk - 5am in February and then are very loud from 6.30am - nice experience but if you were staying there a week, that would be an issue Only shampoo and body wash all in one No fridge in room so no milk storage - just coffee mate Incredibly touristy part of town which is wonderful if that's what you're looking for

The location was excellent, the staff were very friendly and happy to offer local advise if asked. The interior design was lovely. Room was clean and comfortable.

The rooms could do with a small refresh E.g. re wallpapering to get rid of cracks and bulges, updating the air on system as it was very loud. Staying on the street side was very noisy and I was glad I brought my earplugs. The mosque was loud but also the sound from passing cars and motorcycles, the garage opposite, passers by and reception.

We had a good size room, which was nicely decorated and very welcoming. Air conditioning, kettle and toiletries provided. The location is unbeatable, in the heart of Georgetown. The place itself is magical, the lobby has a swing inside and the atmosphere is enchanting. The lady at the reception (Ina if I remember correctly her name) helped us a lot and was very very welcoming and always smiling

There was no fridge, which might have been useful to keep our beverages fresher and more enjoyable. The WI Fi connection didn't work very well

The hotel's location is very easy to reach as it's close to Pasar Chowrasta, Masjid Kapitan Keling, Lebuh Armenian, Lebuh Kimberley and the famous Penang Road only by walking for few minutes. I also enjoyed the room as it was spacious and homey enough for my brief stay there. The room design was artsy and the amenities were sufficient.

I might dislike how some animals were found in the corridor area despite the rule that customers were asked to put off their shoes before entering the room. Still, I do appreciate the housekeeping team to keep the entire hotel area clean.

I liked the location, the lobby, the decor, the nice street.

There was a very poor WiFi signal in the room, they should have signal extenders to cover the entire hotel. The door to the balcony was a little broken and some metal thing from the door kept falling down. On booking.com I was informed I paid for everything and then at the reception they informed me I should pay more for some extra tax. It’s not the first time this happened in Malaysia, but it’s certainly quite unpleasant and should be fixed.
