The hotel staff is friendly and always ready to offer their help. The location is right on Victoria Street, which is the main street of Central Hamilton. There are numerous local restaurants and cafes to choose from. The hotel is well-priced and the rooms are very spacious.

The decor is a bit weathered and in need of a facelift, but the hotel still retains its charm. A little more attention to detail in the common areas would make the hotel more inviting. Other than that there is not much to dislike about the VR Hamilton other than it's showing its age.

Large room with all the required facilities, including an iron. The car park was under renovation, but there is a paid car park nearby, and street parking is also possible (though not directly next to the hotel. Since the hotel is in the city, street parking spots are usually full, but you can still find a parking spot within a few hundred meters).

Outside noise can be heard in the room, especially when people talk and walk through the hotel’s inside corridor. When guests in the adjacent rooms talk loudly, it can be disturbing. Unfortunately, during my stay, two females were talking continuously from 4am until my checkout time.

VR Hamilton exceeded my expectations - my 2 daughters and I shared a room, it was huge and the 3 beds were very comfortable, the sheets were so soft and felt luxurious. The water pressure was really good, better than most hotels I've stayed in. We enjoyed the bathroom products, large hand soap, moisturizer with bodywash and conditioning shampoo in the shower. The building is older, lots of character and located close to the city centre. TV with SKY sport and movies. Tea and coffee making facilities. We parked the car in the hotel parking and for 2 days walked everywhere to eat and to the mall - plenty of easy distance possibilities. Drove to Hamilton Gardens when we checked out. Staff are friendly. I loved the experience - great value for money. Thank you!

We had an amazing balcony but could only get to it by climbing out the window... only tried that once LOL TV didn't have apps or chrome cast but not really an issue.

Based on the price and some other reviews I had read, I had very low expectations but it was "just a bed for a night" after attending a party in town, so decided to chance it. Was really pleasantly surprised and would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. Bed was super comfortable. Shower was lovely and hot with excellent pressure. Although the rooms and paintwork etc were all a little tired looking, the rooms are very spacious and everything was clean and tidy. I expected that we might hear quite a bit of street noise but it wasn't an issue at all - perhaps on a cold winters night there was just less noise in general, but it certainly wasn't an issue during our stay at all.

The check-in staff were perfectly adequate, but a little brisk and transactional. They got the job done, but a bit friendlier service and a warmer welcome would have been nice.

The location is right in the heart of Hamilton. There are numerous restaurants within walking distance covering a wide range of cuisines. The staff, Mechelle especially, is very quick to accommodate guest requests and the cleaning staff is helpful and friendly.

Not so much what I didn't like, it was more hoping that the true potential of what I am sure was once a tremendous property is brought back to its former glory. The "bones" in this old hotel are amazing, but it still needs a significant amount of TLC. The efforts of the current management are there, with the painting being updated, but there is still a way to go.

We regularly stay at VR and it suits our purpose and needs whether for business and or personal leisure.

Appreciate VR being the 'classic' that it is, and acknowledge the updates to ensure comfort. The only issue is depending the room allocated the position of powerpoints. Only because my husband has a 'sleep apnea machine'. We have however learned to adapt. The one time we needed to 'borrow' a lead (power cord), that was provided.

Large room with large bathroom, all nice and clean, at the back of the hotel. Location is right in a busy street with bars, restaurants and shops. If available, free parking on the property could be done. Otherwise a paid carpark is at the street behind (approx. 20 NZD per night). Paid parking is available in the street in front of the hotel, but more difficult in the weekend.

Because I arrived on Friday evening, parking was difficult. Better to have mentioned in the reservation (or more clearly) where the paid "Wilson" carparking would be to avoid long search. When staying for longer periods, the parking fees can add up somewhat, wrt free parking location out of the city center. The busy street migth be noisy, if you have a room at the front, during the weekend, however I can't confirm that.

The room was very comfortable with a large double bed and ensuite. A small table, chair, and fridge with tea and coffee facilities provided. The windows are enormous and look out into the Main Street. They are old steel frames and can be opened to let in the fresh, clean, air. This is an old hotel so it has its quirks (the lift has a limited capacity) but it has charm and some of the rooms are enormous (90sq/m). It is on the Main Street and surrounded by pubs, clubs, casino, shops etc etc.

I have stayed here a few times and I haven't got the room with the private balcony!

VR Hamilton is just exceptional in every way. I am a very profound Radio and TV Personality and if I am rating you 10 on 10, then you are 10 on 10 period. For your information, I travelled on my brand new Harley Davidson from Super City Auckland for work and pleasure trip. Thanking you!!!

If you guys have a receptionist 24 hours, it will not only boost your income but create more ambience. People do need last minute places even at 4 o clock in the morning

The room was very clean and spacious with a comfortable bed. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The location was perfect — right in the heart of Hamilton, close to shops and restaurants. I also loved the beautiful view from my window.

There was some noise from the street at night, but it wasn’t too bad. Also, the parking area was a bit tight and could be improved.
