We really liked the location. It was within walking distance of restaurants and the park.

We didn't like that the manager had left political notes on the coffee table for us all to see. If the owner wants it to be a relaxing place (a spa) then he needs to get politics out of the home.

The accommodation is in an older property which has been modified excellently to suit its current use. It is nicely furnished in a styles fitting the age of the house. The house is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness. Everything is provided to make your stay enjoyable, a large tv in the lounge, a full complement of kitchen equipment and condiments, and a variety of breakfast cerials. You can make as many hot drinks as you wish - everything is provided. Parking is available on site. The host is amicable but doesn't interfere in your stay. It was my first night away and set a standard which others have not met.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience staying at this accommodation! Erina, truly went above and beyond to make my stay memorable. The whole house is impeccably clean and well-presented—you can immediately tell that the hosts have paid special attention to each decor aspect. The jar of lollies by the front door is such a thoughtful and charming touch. What truly set this stay apart, though, was Erina’s incredible kindness and attentiveness. When I accidentally left some items behind, she not only went out of her way to retrieve them but also promptly posted them back to me. Her thoughtfulness and genuine care for her guests are unmatched. I can’t recommend this place enough—not just for its comfort and convenience but for the incredible host who made me feel so valued and cared for. Thank you, Erina, for your outstanding hospitality! I’ll definitely be back!

I honestly can't think of anything I didn't like—everything was absolutely perfect! The host and accommodation exceeded all my expectations.

The property is a lovely old house with many period features. There were a good range of tea/coffee/snacks provided in the kitchen - note that the kitchen/lounge area closes at 20:00. The location is good up above Caroline beach, close to the sports centre.

Did I miss something or was „the spa“ the only bathroom upstairs - a nicely appointed bathroom with plenty of thick towels, but not a place you felt you could linger as it had the only toilet for the rooms on the first floor. Fresh milk rather than powder would have been nice. Parking was very tight at the back of the house and there were warnings of being towed away if parked on the street.

Comfortable and well furnished house. Welcoming lolly jar at front desk. Great assortment of breakfast cereals, tinned fruit, noodles for breakfast, as well as assorted tea and coffee varieties and biscuits.

Very awkward for parking at rear of property. One guest asked my husband to help her avoid a large overgrown tree, another guest reversed into same tree and smashed rear windscreen of his hire car, also got bogged on lawn as conditions had made it very slippery where he was trying to turn around.

Staff very friendly. The hot tub is huge and available everyday, no need to pre arrange usage, just grab ya shorts and hop in. The property is well decorated at maintained and they have the cleaners in everyday making sure the shared bathroom and other facilities/common areas are immaculate. They provide robes in the bedrooms which is a lovely homey touch that also makes you feel like you’re staying in a posh hotel.

Absolutely nothing. Couldn’t fault the place at all.

Absolutely loved our stay! The bed was extremely comfortable, and the shower was hot with great pressure. The owners were friendly, and everything was clean, making it feel like home. We really appreciate the pet-friendly policy, as we always travel with our small, well-behaved, cage-trained dogs. It would be wonderful if more places accepted pets as they cause less disturbance than many people. A huge thanks for this! The cookies were a highlight—our toddler loved them! We will definitely be back when we visit Timaru!

Be cautious if you have a larger car, as parking can be tricky and may lead to scratches. This is the only issue we encountered, but it should be fine for smaller cars.

The host was very generous with supplements in the kitchen such as coffee, tea, biscuits, some breakfast foods, dried soups, and so on. The kitchen, dining, and living room areas were comfortable and congenial. Relaxing in the warm spa at the end of the day was heavenly. Also, the park and beach were in walking distance.

Because our room door was formed of glass panes, we felt we lacked privacy. Although a drape attached to the wall and hanging over the door helped, it was very awkward climbing under the drape to open the door. A cloth panel on the door itself, or having a drape in 2 parts so it could open in the middle would have helped.

Parking was too tight to get my work ute in down the driveway and get around trees and other cars, so had to park on road with lots of tools in the back, and also risk of getting towed (they're not meant to have visitors parking on narrow road outfront) - however if you have a normal car would be fine.

Coming into the Sanctuary you forget all of your surroundings and enter a world of relaxation. The super simple self checkin is very easy and the host Gerald is a great role model for how your stay should be, relaxing on the front porch in a dressing gown most of the time. Everything you need is provided including robes for the hot pool in the backyard and a good selection of breakfast food and cookies you can help yourself to. A true idyll close enough to the beach or to the town to walk there, but just staying on the property is just as good an idea!

Nothing
