✅ Unbeatable location. Right in the heart of Wellington, with top-notch restaurants, cafés, and boutiques at your doorstep. A scenic 30-minute walk takes you to the beautiful Botanical Gardens. ✅ Morning indulgence. The hot croissants at breakfast? Absolute perfection—flaky, buttery, and fresh from the oven. ✅ Comfort first. Super cozy beds, strong showers, and fast Wi-Fi make for a relaxing and hassle-free stay. ✅ Thoughtful extras. Complimentary snacks, a standout orange juice, and an in-room fridge add to the convenience. ✅ A commitment to guests. We ran into a parking issue at a nearby lot, but the hotel stepped up to help sort it out for us—a rare and much-appreciated gesture of hospitality. ✅ Relaxed check-out time. With an 11 a.m. check-out, there’s no need to rush in the morning.
❌ Parking can be a challenge. If you’re driving, plan ahead—Wellington’s parking can be tricky. The hotel provides recommendations, but be sure to check payment requirements to avoid fines. Pre-payment is a requirement unlike other countries. ❌ Limited front desk hours. After 8 p.m., staff aren’t on-site, so late arrivals or last-minute needs may require a little extra planning. ❌ Some noise at night. The cocktail lounge downstairs can be lively, though staff are receptive if you need the volume lowered.

Located just off the vibrant Cuba St it meant we could easily access myriad restaurants and cafes. We preferred the ‘local’ feel this area rather than the more clinical harbour area where the larger chain hotels tend to be (also a nice area but busier with cruise ship folk). Large room, separate loo and bathroom, comfy sofa and wonderful large bed. Snacks and soft drinks in mini bar for free. Evening wine tasting and morning croissants and coffee for free too. Fab bar with a cool feeling of a Cuban chic.
Our room on first floor was noisy when garbage collectors came

We had a great stay here. The location is excellent — super convenient and close to everything we needed. The decor throughout the hotel is modern and tasteful, creating a really nice atmosphere. Our room was a good size, clean, and comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better.
The only downsides were the shower, which had a bit of a leak and didn’t get quite as hot as we would’ve liked, and the bed, which wasn’t the most comfortable. Not deal-breakers, but worth mentioning.

Very cool industrial vibe, Great Bar down stairs, friendly staff & Breakfast Croissants were a winner thanks for the Birthday Treats & cute card xx
There needs to be a useable long hard bench ideally along one of the main walls to double as a seat, side table or place to put suitcases ( the robe area was a little shoved in the corner & not really big enough )& bedside tables were on the small side. which meant digging around in suitcases on the floor, with mood lighting was a little annoying for my old eyes

A Hotel with character made our stay in Wellington that little bit more special. Location was great and we enjoyed being able to walk around the city. We expressed interest in purchasing one of the hotel cups and when we got back to our room we found a personalised note and a cup waiting for us. This extra customer service touch meant that when we returned to Wellington we booked in for an additional night.
Not that we didn't like more an opportunity for improvement would be replacing the shower curtain with a screen door.

I loved the whole atmosphere of The Intrepid and the staff was wonderful. Our room was very comfortable and the complimentary snacks were perfect for us, along with a bottle of wine from The Puffin Wine Bar downstairs. We really appreciated having free coffee, juice, and a croissant to start us off in the morning. Although there is no parking right at the hotel, the parking garage they recommend is just a minute walk away.
The shower tended to get the floor wet outside of the curtains, but it wasn’t anything we couldn’t deal with.

This is a very cool spot in the heart of the town. It's very dark inside with artistic photographs and an industrial feel with exposed walls and brick work, we loved it! The room was huge and had not one, but two bathrooms along with lots of storage and a lot of complimentary drinks (rare for a hotel). Despite it's super central location, it was also very quiet at night with little traffic on the road outside, and we were literally a 2-minute walk from the heart of the shopping district. One huge plus also is the brilliant Puffin bar on the ground floor, which is an incredibly cool cocktail bar with brilliant staff and a massive range of drinks which you can enjoy in booths or lounging at the bar. The hotel also provides free (yes, free) coffee and croissants every morning for guests in its beautiful foyer area. The staff were extremely friendly and a joy to deal with, thank you. This is definitely a return-to when we visit the city again!

From start to finish this was one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had, and I have had a lot. Very welcoming reception staff. The room was perfect for a solo traveller but plenty big enough for a couple. Bed was super comfee. Great lighting . The shower was fab and there was a toothbrush, razor, and sewing kit for emergencies. Pillow turn down and Freddo frogs greeted me on returning after dinner !!😍There is a drinks station on every floor with sparkling water tap, coffee and tea There is complimentary breakfast downstairs every morning. Puffin wine bar is on the ground floor. Very cool vibe, great wine by the glass , a real local hangout. The location is amazing. A few steps to Cuba Street where you will find fantastic shops, bars and cafes , and a short walk to all the main attractions. There is nothing to fault about this Hotel, it is wonderful.

Brilliant location in the buzzing part of Wellington. Local bars and restaurants on your doorstep. For the centre of a major city, the room was a very good size and the bathroom was great too. It is a very quirky hotel which we both very much enjoyed. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Parking was a bit of a faff but we got it worked out eventually. Would say it is a bit pricey for what you get.

The moment we walked in we were greeted incredibly warmly, and Kayla (?) made checking in (and out) a very easy affair. She was elegant, gracious, kind, and knowledgeable. We were thrilled upon discovering the room, proving to be a perfect blend of industrial and chic with delightfully appointed separate bathroom & water closet. The handwritten, and 'Intrepidly' sealed, envelope and accompanying instruction letter were also a very nice touch. All attributing to one of the best nights we've ever had in Wellington. Thank you Intrepid Hotel - we'll look forward to the next time we get to see you!
Our only observation, was that the heat pump may need some attention (noisier rattle sound than it should've been making), though ultimately no major - it was still lovely and warm in the room.
