3 nights in the best location for St James Theater, Te Papa and Toi art center. Short walk to Lambert Quay and cable car to the Botanical gardens then a lovely walk through the gardens to the beehive. Enjoyed a short walk to oriental bay and a quick dip in the sea or like us enjoy a quick drink instead.
We had an internal room with no windows. Great for sleeping, no noise but not great for the internal clock and making the best of a short visit. Also did not enjoy the glass window from the room to the toilet and shower. As a person with medical needs, this was very difficult to navigate. Lots of time was wasted sorting this out over our weekend.

location was great, very central and close to waterfront, cuba st shops, te papa, mt victoria walkway... easy to get to and from the airport. staff were nice and accommodating and the food was very tasty. great big breakfast buffet. barista coffee wasn't included in it (justfilter) but it was only $5 at the cafe so all good.
everything was great but if i had to say something for improvement it would be the beds & pillows. i wish they were more comfortable and i definitely wish there was an extra blanket in the room. i couldn't sleep with the noise of the heat pump on so i had to turn it off. felt a bit cold with just one thin duvet in winter.

The hotel is situated in a great location, conveniently close to shopping centers and a variety of dining options. The room was quite comfortable, with a great bed and pillows that ensured a good night's sleep. I appreciated the breakfast, which offered a variety of excellent options, as well as the wonderful dinners. The front desk staff, restaurant team, and chef were all incredibly friendly and made the experience even more enjoyable. However, I did notice that there were quite a few hairs on the carpets, indicating that they may not have been cleaned thoroughly. Addressing this issue could greatly enhance the overall experience for future guests.

We got a free upgrade to a city view room when we checked in, the room itself was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. The view was alright but that’s more the city rather than the property.
We had to pay $25 a night for parking on site and the actual parking lot was so small and cramped. If you have a car larger than a small sedan it was very difficult to manoeuvre within the underground parking. We could have searched for parking outside on the streets but unfortunately the hotel is located in a dodgy area and we didn’t feel safe going outside the hotel with our infant after dark.

The staff were super friendly, they looked after our bags before check in. We'd put in the booking notes that it was my birthday, and the staff said happy birthday. They had put a plate in the room with happy birthday on it in chocolate with a couple of little biscuits. It was really sweet! The shower was great, and the bed was super soft. It was all really clean. Breakfast was amazing, so many choices from healthy to big breakfast, eggs anyway you like and lots of different options!
The shower had a bit leaking, and the aircon kept running, we've let the reception know as these are things they probably aren't aware of! They didn't impact our stay or make it that we don't want to go back - we loved the oaks hotel!!!!

The restaurant was fabulous. Food was perfect and staff were friendly and helpful. One criticism is the breakfast closed at 10am and of course wanting to check out our room at 10 and then have breakfast before we travelled on meant we were held up by having to go elsewhere for some breakfast.
The hallways could do with a real clean. They were so unclean and the skirting boards really dusty that it was a with a nervous expectation that the room would be unclean too. Luckily the room was clean but the shabby state of the hallways gives the hotel a real low rate look.

Staff were very accommodating. We arrived well before the check in time of 2pm (totally expecting to drop off our bags and go kill some time), but told we could check in right away. This was so appreciated after a early morning red eye flight! Complimentary 11am check out on request. We were also offered a midday checkout for an extra $25. Great sized bathroom. Clean and modern.
We went for the cheaper option and went for a room without a window. I wouldn't recommend as it played havoc with our circadian rhythm! Better to pay the extra $35 for a window.

Here's a rewritten version: Hotel Review: I recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel, and overall, I was impressed with the service and amenities. However, there was one notable inconsistency that left a bit of a sour taste. One of the highlights of my stay was the breakfast option, which I had prepaid for. On the second day, when I asked the restaurant staff if I could take my breakfast to my room, they kindly obliged. However, on the third day, when I made the same request, a different supervisor informed me that this was not allowed. I was disappointed by this inconsistency, and I couldn't help but feel that the rules should be applied uniformly. It's understandable that policies may change, but it's essential to communicate these changes clearly to both staff and guests. To improve the guest experience, I suggest that the hotel establish clear, consistent policies and communicate them effectively to all staff members. This would help avoid confusion and ensure that guests receive the same level of service throughout their stay. Despite this hiccup, I would still recommend this hotel to others.

Oaks Wellington is located right in the heart of the city, making it incredibly convenient for exploring all that Wellington has to offer. The location couldn’t be better for shopping, dining, or enjoying the vibrant nightlife.
The hotel itself is modern, clean, and generally comfortable. However, I stayed in one of the internal rooms without windows, and I have to say it felt a bit depressing. While the room was well-appointed, the lack of natural light made it feel quite enclosed. If I stay here again, I would definitely choose a room with a window for a more pleasant experience. Overall, it's a good hotel with great service and an unbeatable location, but I’d recommend checking your room type before booking!

A warm and smiley welcome from the receptionist when we arrived at the hotel. The room was clean and tidy. Possibility to ask for two single beds instead of a queen / king size bed.
We weren't shown how to use the magnetic card to operate the lift. Being in our seventies it took us a little while to figure it out! The glass wall of the bathroom with the shower right next to it, even if the middle of the wall was opaque, was a little uncomfortable. I would have loved a bit more privacy. The glass walls also made the bedroom quite bright in the middle of the night when using the bathroom light. It wakened me a few times when my husband had to use the bathroom.
