Ya boy back again for Porirua Rocks 2. Parked my car here most of the day (and fully paid) as i don't drink and drive. Everything else here is good as last time except a couple of things.

Need a new drying machine if you don't wanna waste $6 or $9 for 2 or 3 cycles to complete dry your laundry. And got a parking fine ticket on my check out day as I slept in. I had an hour left in my paymypark app account. Already wrote an appeal on line. I would have to go somewhere else if my ticket doesn't get appealed. I'm gonna miss this place in case I don't return. Thank 4 having me here all those times. Ma Te Wa Cambridge

Super affordable and the staff were always available to help & friendly. The private rooms were definitely a step up from the dorms, but that's completely to be expected.

The bathrooms were fairly run down and the kitchen rules around mess/cleanliness were not enforced. I did report this to the front desk, and they said a cleaner would be on their way through soon, I didn't stick around for this though. The dorm rules (i.e. storing your stuff in your bunk/under your bunk) were also not enforced, there was someone who used the floor space, under their bunk, and under my bunk meaning that I had to sleep with my bags on the bed with me. Understandably the staff could do very little about this, but inconsiderate travellers are something to be aware of.

The location is second to none, right next to Courtney place with cafes, bars and entertainment on the doorstep, but manages to be well insulated from any noise outdoors or from within the pub within the building. The dorm room wouldn't have been easy to heat up with the heaters provided (high ceilings) , but we prefer to sleep in a cool room, so it suited us perfectly. The toilets/showers were immaculate and the water was got and powerful. The bar/pub was well stocked, had good deals and sport on the screens and friendly staff.

Can't think of anything.

The location was great. Staff was friendly for the limited interaction we had.

I needed to leave very early the next day but couldn't leave my luggage. I was able to do so at my next hotel fortunately, which wasn't too far. Showers and bathrooms are in a shared area for both men and women, there is no basket or hanger in the individual shower rooms so it felt awkward to leave my belonging and getting undressed outside the shower. As with any backpacker, you get what you pay for, just be mindful of that. (creaky bunk beds, inconsiderate roommates, etc.)

The building is like 150 years old but it's very well maintained for its age. The room is spacious and quiet. Love the two pillows and comfy bed for single room. My room has a sink, kettle, fridge and TV and I found them useful and handy. Shared bathroom is bit dark but clean. The old lift works fine. Staff is attentive. Great location walking distance to a lot of attractions including Te Papa. It's cleaner and better maintanced than Waterloo (hotel with similar age)

$100 security deposit is required. I checked out before 7am and I couldn't find key drop box at the reception so I left on the counter... Was not sure if I could get deposit back

Clean, tidy, well maintained property that exceeded my expectations. Excellent location. Very professional staff, polite and helpful. The small (single) room that I booked was fresh, well equipped and as shown on the photos. There was even daily room service, which I wasn’t expecting. The communal showers were always clean and fresh. The carpeted floors all over the walkways looked as-new. I believe this is really good value for money without compromising on quality or comfort!

The only thing that looked a bit dirty and old was the washing machine and dryer. They were both functional though, and very reasonably priced ($4 & $3 respectively).

Excellent value for money. I stayed 3 nights and was able to compare the twin to the single. The best thing was easily the very long single beds. I think all the rooms are very different. The single had a lot more hooks and power points. The twin had a sink. Both rooms had plenty of space. The staff at reception were great and were able to extend my booking with out fuss. The big kitchen was well used but very clean.

Everything is very clean to a point. For example the shared toilet is cleaned daily, but the water tap was caked in dirt. The room was spotless, but the blinds were broken. One of the first floor showers was broken, but all the rest had heaps of hot water. Walls are thin so if you have noisy neighbours you will hear them.

Initially I wasn’t fussed HOWEVER once I settled in I came to really like it. The fact there is a kitchen provided is so good, especially as places I’ve stayed in overseas made you pay for their overpriced food they would offer if you wanted to eat in the hostel. The shower pressure was so good! The beds were comfy AND the location is amazing. It was pretty central and made walking to and from the CBD so nice and easy!

The cleanliness could use a little work however that’s probably more so down to other travellers than the staff (who were lovely and welcoming). The bunk beds weren’t numbered so you had to kind of guess which bed was yours or which ones were available. It wasn’t a massive problem though.

I liked that I had my own room. Staff was very helpful for the questions I asked. I loved having a sink in my room, yes I had to go to a shared bathroom for taking a shower and using the toilet but I could at least brush my teeth in my room and drink water

I didn't like the design of the room, I had a kettle at a table-like place but no plug around it, so I had to put it on the ground to boil water and put it back there

The room was very basic, but it was spacious and comfortable. Everyone had a locker and there were enough charging ports to keep everyone happy. The location was very good as it's within walking distance of a few tourist attractions like Mount Victoria, Te Papa and the Wellington War Memorial. For other attractions which are further away, there are bus connections less than 10 minutes walk away. The bar/restaurant at the front of the premises is also quite nice and you get a small discount when eating/drinking there if you are staying onsite. All in all, it matched my expectations exactly.

The only real downside I encountered is that in some fairly minor areas the hostel side of things was a bit rough around the edges. In a few places things like lights and door locks didn't work fully, but there were always other toilets/showers to use or at least "some" other lights in the room so it wasn't that big of a deal.
