As in every HH I stayed so far, the beds were perfect. - The location is good (however, it is quite far from the station and very far from the interislander ferry.) - It was really clean, but for the kitchen in the morning. - The staff was very friendly and helpful and the communication very easy. (I had a question about my late check in. I got a good answer right away.)

The (4 bed) dorm was very small. However, I guess that's true for every hostel room in Wellington... - The kitchen was very dirty in the morning. I stayed for 3 nights. 2 days it was just ok, but one day it was hardly usable anymore, because there were dirty dishes in every sink and everywhere else, and everything was just icky. I know that this depends on the guests (and some guests are really awful!!) - but I still think that the kitchen should be checked over night in such a big hostel.

Perfect location, just right across New World Supermarket, few steps away from the waterfront, just stones throw away from Te Papa

A fantastic hostel experience. I has a twin room ensuite. The room was spotless, the bed and pillows were firm, fresh, and comfortable. There was a kettle and coffee, refrigerator, full length mirror, outlet by the bed, and a magnificent view of the harbor. The room was as spacious as a regular hotel room. There is no staff interaction. You just check in via a kiosk. It's very quiet and has a perfect location. Don't let the ghastly entrance put you off.

The entrance is dirty, cluttered, poorly designed. As with most hostels, the guests don't keep the dining room tables clean. Luckily, I didn't have to use any of the common areas. Luggage storage is just one small closet with everyone's bags piled around. It has a locked door but isn't very secure.

I really like Haka House. The facilities were above and beyond any hostel I've ever been to. I didn't stay in the dorm but in a private room with ensuite bathroom. The common spaces, kitchens and lounge, were great.

The staff was very helpful and kind but they made a mistake. I asked them to put a key out for my friend who was arriving after me at 6am in the morning, when I wasn't at the hostel and the reception was closed. I asked the hostel to leave a key for my friend for self check-in. The hostel agreed this would be best. They sent us the self check-in instructions. However, they forgot to put the key for my friend! I am not sure what happened but this was absolutely awful for my friend who had traveled 12h and just wanted to go to sleep. But instead, had to wait out in the cold until I could call the reception and ask them AGAIN for the key. They also made other mistakes with our room keys but it was small compared to this.

The location of the hostel is great, right by the waterfront and the Te Papa museum and less than 10 minute walk to Cuba Street. The room was spacious. The bathroom was small but completely fine for a few days, especially for the price it was good value for money. There's also a small fridge in the room. The kitchen area is clean and large and the check-in process was easy, and we arrived after reception hours too. All in all we had a lovely time and would stay again!

There's no parking, however you can park overnight for free and between the hours of 8am to 5pm on weekdays it's $5 per hour literally across the road from the hostel. There's also lots of car parking around the city.

This is the BEST place we stayed in New Zealand! The beds were SOOOO comfortable, I really did not want to leave, I wish I could have stayed here for a week. We had an amazing view of the harbour, this was an amazing location, everything is within walking distance. Heaps of great restarurants at your doorstep as well as the bus to/from the airport. This is also the cleanest hostel I've seen for a while. If I'm ever back in Wellington, I will book here again.

Coffee machine in the lobby was a bit of a scam. We thought it was free (it was $4) and then it only filled the cup about half way up. Oh well, just get your coffee elsewhere.

Probably the best hostel we’ve ever stayed in. Private rooms were hotel standard and the two large kitchens were fantastic. Lots of seating area and kept very clean and tidy. Fantastic location in centre of Wellington. Whole building was kept well maintained and the shared bathrooms were good and always clean too. Body soap included in showers is always a nice touch. All sorts of people staying there not just backpackers and had a real comfortable feel to the place.

Only thing was that that both lifts were out of order when we were there. Also private rooms are on the cost side so might be tight if you had large suitcases

It’s central, very close to a New World supermarket and the Te Papa museum. Surrounded by many bars and restaurants as well. It is walkable to all sights, but can be rather far (e.g. parliament) for the elderly. You get the facilities you paid for. The private bathroom was basic. But the beds were comfortable. The reception staff were busy but friendly. They will try their best to meet your needs.

It is next to some main streets, so it can be somewhat noisy at night. Maybe we stayed during the weekend, the reception opening hours were unpredictable. For example, it was unmanned from circa 4pm in one afternoon. And on the day we suppose to check out, the reception weren’t open until 10 am. Therefore if you want to leave your luggages, it can be a problem.

Haka House was great for our two night stay. We were familiar with the property when it used to be the YHA so we knew what to expect in regards to the fact that it’s a hostel. However our private ensuite room that overlooked the harbour was just like a hotel. This place is in a great location and the beds were comfy. It’s suited our needs and expectations.

The lift is currently being refurbished so we had to use the stairs which wasn’t a problem as we didn’t have suitcases but this may be a problem for those less mobile or with big cases if the refurbishment is going to take a while. We found using the stairs wasn’t a problem however we did think that the stairwells could have benefitted from a vacuum - it made what was otherwise a nice clean environment look a bit shabby.

The staff at the reception were great & always happy to help with any queries. The beds are comfortable & the facilities including the kitchen are clean and spacious. The complimentary toiletries in the rooms smell delicious with plenty to use.

Unfortunately I had another guest snoring underneath my bed my entire stay meaning I had little sleep. This was out of Haka Houses control though. I put a lower score on cleanliness as housekeeping is not done in the room throughout your stay, so bins were full throughout etc. I think it would be a nice touch if bins were emptied daily, with 4 women backpackers they were full from the first day as the bins are really small too.
