Overall: Seems like at one time it was a seniors residence? Very quiet. Property consists of 3 buildings. A block has gym, B block has indoor pool facilities and spa, C block has breakfast buffet and access to outdoor pool/bar. Free Wifi is excellent, very fast. Parking is underground and is €7 per day. Entrance and exit to the parkade is with your room key Rooms - we had an apartment with side sea view. The view from the balcony was nice. Rooms were spacious. Kitchenette was convenient. Only downsides were no ice machines on property (although we obtained ice from the bar in a glass) and another blanket that actually covers the whole bed would have been nice. Staff - All the staff we encountered were friendly, informative, welcoming and helpful. Overall lovely people working here and doing a great job Location - in São Martinho, adjacent to Funchal. If you want to be right downtown Funchal, this is not for you. If you want somewhere a little quieter but with easy access to town, this is perfect. Bus stop directly in front of hotel (Hop on Hop off buses also stop in front). Pharmacies, grocery, restaurants all within 10 min walking distance. Large mall also down the street (Forum Madeira). Lovely view of ocean. Doca do Cavacas natural outdoor pools also within a few minutes walk. Dining - we didn’t eat any lunches or dinners here, just the breakfast buffet which is included in the room rate. Very wide selection of breakfast items. Hot American-style foods (eggs, bacon, potatoes, pancakes, etc), lots of cheeses and cold meats, breads/rolls, preserves, fruits, yogurt and toppings, homemade cakes, oatmeal, coffee, tea, juices. Everyone should be able to find something. Breakfast goes from 7:30-10:30 Pool facilities - outdoor pool looked lovely but we didn’t go in because it wasn’t quite warm enough on the day we had time around the hotel. Indoor pool was great, hot tub was not hot though which was disappointing (same temperature as the pool).

We loved the location of the hotel, very close to Funchal, bus station is just across the street, although we mainly walked and also rented a car to get to the other side of the island that’s not very frequently connected by bus. It was the perfect choice that we reserved a room in Golden residence hotel!!!! Everything was amazing, staff is always cleaning and taking care of the hotel, everybody is very welcoming and warm:) I would also like to say that if you are a breakfast lover, just book this hotel, because OH MY LORD!!! THE BREAKFAST IS PHENOMENAL!!!!:))) You have everything to choose from (even chia pudding for all of us healthy food freaks out there:)), all kinds of fruit, veggies, breads, yoghurt, milk, cereals, pancakes, eggs in like 4 ways, baked beans, baked tomatoes, different homemade cakes and jams, nuts, seeds,….you name it- they have it all!!! 😝So to sum up, we were indeed very very happy with our stay (WE WILL BE COMING BACK FOR SURE!) and very sad that after 15 days of staying there, we had to go back home:) So don’t think twice, just book this amazing hotel and you will guaranteed have the most amazing time in Madeira☺️

Everything was PERFECT!!!!☺️

We stayed 10 nights at this hotel. The room (apartment with kitchen) was clean, well equipped with big balcony. On the picture, the apartment looks actually bigger than it really is. The kitchen is also very simple. The personnel of the hotel works really great and are ready to help. The reception works perfect - sometimes you must wait till they are ready, but in this hotel the personnel acted very fast and you didint need to wait. Breakfasts and dinners were delicious with different choices of meals. The price for the stay is affordable but not cheap. The spa in the hotel could be a little better. The parking is under the hotel in the garage for additional fee. No problem with finding a parking spot. What we didn t find is the playground for the children or a playroom. The hotel is big and have plenty of spots where to make a small playroom for families with kids. To conclude - we would stay again in this hotel and recommend it

Fantastic location. Attentive staff team. Exceptional cleanliness with high quality linens, changed daily. Fantastic breakfast buffet with individual Gluten Free pastry and bread basket. Great little outside bar by the pool in the afternoon with reasonably priced drinks including cocktails. Plenty of sun beds with umbrellas by pool, on lawn and on sea view terrace. A really, really great hotel with excellent facilities and services, peaceful, calm and quiet. Don’t hesitate to book.

Loved everything, far surpassed my expectations! It’s as good as it looks in the photos!

1. Breakfast included, also liked a variety of food choices: from chia pudding to potato nuggets and fresh fruits. Especially being a vegeterian I found everyday what to eat, for vegans it would be difficult. 2. The view from our room. We were speechless.. You can watch the sea, sunrise and sunsets just from your balcony. Huge thanks to staff’cause we asked specifically this room. 3. All of the staff was super friendly. 4. Room service. 5. Private parking (but chargeable 6€/day). 6. Outdoor pools and plenty of space for sunbathing. 6. The birthday surprise on the house and mini gift after check out. So nice and caring! 7. The mini bar by the pool! 8. Live music (depends on the day).

Just a notice: 1. The walls are not sound-proof, not loudly, but we could hear the neighbours. 2. The indoor pool could be renewed.

The location of the hotel is great. I liked the fact that there is a lift in Block 'A' that takes you to the main road, which leads to the mall. The rooms are big and clean, although it would be great to have a picture or two on the walls. The pools, steam room, and sauna were all great. The breakfast was superb. My family and I liked the fact that there were different types of foods each morning. The staff was always friendly and helpful. Overall, we really had a great holiday, and I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The only thing we did not like was the noise from the machine at the back of the reception, in Block 'B'. It is quite loud, especially late at night. Since we were on the side of the block, where the machine is, we had to close the windows at night, when it became unbearable.

Hotel location, the view, the restaurant/buffet. Original booking for one week with nice side sea view room. Due to flight cancelation we needed one more night which the hotel managed to provide in high season, thankfully for the service. Buffet restaurant was excellent and pool side menu also good. Pool was nice and warm, and bigger then expected, based on photo's

We stayed one week as planned in a side sea view room. Which was a decent size room in block C (closest to sea), relatively new room which a small kitchen, without plates, pans etc. Maybe just remove the kitchen if not intended to be used, but corridor requires some paint patch up on ventilation ducting/ceiling.. Beds were extremely firm. Due to flight cancelation we stayed one night in an appartment in middle block B. There older air-conditioning system (which worked), but bathroom had a bad sewage smell and one sofa bed wasn't flat when folded out, but all OK for one night. Pool requires some re-tile-ing

Overall impression: I was staying in the hotel with the family (including 2 kids of 1 and 7 y.o.). Hotel provides great value for money with convenient location, good infrastructure, tasty food and very helpful staff. Hotel's infrastructure: Rooms are well equipped with everything you need for small cooking and have a lot of places for storage. Kitchens are located in wardrobes which helps to nicely separate it from the sleeping zone when needed. Our rooms had a great view on the ocean (though I think some rooms do not have this benefit). Hotel has very convenient for kids swimming pool, billiards, board games and book corners Location: Hotel is well located with close proximity to natural beaches as well as to various swimming pools. 5 min walk to Shopping Center and easy access to Funchal via few buses one of which stop right in front of the hotel. Restaurant and food. High quality and tasty food during breakfasts and dinners. Quite diverse offering during dinners, i.e. every day was dedicated to various cousins (e.g. local, Iberian, Latin, etc.). Restaurant has very nice-looking and modern design (compared to overall old-fashioned design of the hotel) Staff: Very friendly staff always willing to help and provide all required information.

Few minor things which do not allow to provide higher than 8 scoring: - Hotel is not new with already visible signs of wear out (especially some sliding doors in wardrobes and rooms). Design of common areas and rooms is old-fashioned - Inhouse relax zone with jacuzzi, sauna and hamam are not of the best quality. Water in jakuzzi was colder than you would expect (needed a lot of time to heat once turned on) and jakuzzi itself did not provide relax /massage effect. Sauna was out of service. Hamam was medium quality, required request to be turned off and was operational only after 17.00

we liked both our room and breakfast, location was comfortable to go by bus to the city center, and walk to the cliffs and shore for a swim. A shopping mall with a food store and fast food restaurants in a walking distance.

Confusing ways to get from one building to another ( there are 3 buildings there). The outside swimming pool and the terrace seemed too small for the number of guests staying there.

The location of the hotel is great. Personnel is very friendly and responsive. Room and all facilities are clean. Choice of foods for morning breakfasts is very good.

The breakfast room is not designed to serve a lot of people at the same time. There were days when we had to wait for a table to be ready for us. It happened several times during our 7 days stay when large tourist groups were coming to breakfast at the same time. Dinner buffet is simple, nothing special. Desserts are great. The hotel buildings are not brand new and rooms would benefit from the upgrades.
