It's a great hotel for a break in Funchal. The hotel has glorious views over the Atlantic ocean and the bar on the terrace is a beautiful spot for meals and drinks - Breakfast as the sun comes up, amazing. The photo attached was taken from our balcony. The hotel rooms are a good size for a City hotel and the little pool/sunbed area was very pleasant to sit in. Funchal is a nice walk away (40 mins) but there is a hotel free shuttle bus and a bus stop right outside (no1 or no2 bus). There's also the shopping centre over the road and an area of bars and restaurants about 10 mins walk away towards Funchal. Best of all, the staff were truly magnificent. Every single one from the reception, dining, cleaning and the shuttle bus driver, they were all so friendly and helpful

Location is perfect, lots of good restaurants in the neighbourhood, but also very quiet area compared to Funchal city centre. Staff is very friendly, outlook from the breakfast and dining terrace is exceptional. Rooms are facing the ocean. Beds are huge and comfortable. Flexible service (breakfast box is available if you leave earlier than breakfast time).

Pool area closes too early.

Breakfast was OK, lots of options, meat options ie sausages, bacon, not our cup of tea but loads of other options. Our room located under the terrace where food is served, the noise when moving chairs was very loud in our room. Small swimming pool outside. Only given one card, usually given two.

We have been visiting the Madeira Regency Cliff Hotel for eleven years and each time we have been very satisfied with our stay. Wonderful, friendly and competent staff, ocean view, good varied breakfasts, intimate nature of the hotel - these are the most important advantages. Front desk staff always very helpful - I especially greet Nadia Abreu and Nori Rodriguez. I also greet Senhora Magda and her colleagues - such friendly service can be found only at Regency Cliff.

The view from the balcony and the breakfast terrace were breathtaking. The breakfast was very good, including the yogourt and bread selections. The staff were very friendly and most communicated in English.

Parking was a problem as the hotel provided only 9 parking spots which were mostly occupied. Parking on neighborhood streets or in close by underground garages was available at a fee.

This hotel is in the most perfect location with amazing sea views and also coastal views back towards the Lido area. We loved just sitting in the top floor roof garden/terrace with a drink, or two! The view from the pool terrace is lovely also. The whole hotel felt calm, clean and tranquil - and our room was fabulous. They also gave us an upgrade as it was my husband's birthday.

The card in the room stating that if you wanted more tea/coffee/sugar sachets they would charge E0.40 each. Just doesn't fit with the style and tone of the rest of the experience - especially when they are freely available at breakfast so you just need to put a few in your handbag! It's not that we needed them, it's just the impression it gives, which contradicts the otherwise 'luxury' experience.

- The view from our room was just amazing, full seaview. Ok, we had a room in the corner with terrace and window in two directions. - The location is very good, with access to reastaurant and shoppingh center, but most important: very close to the sea and a beach. - The hotel's own pool area was not large (not needed) but nice, with a deep, circular pool.

- The hotel need a basic refurbishment. It's partly done, but the facade looks awful and some of the furniture has been along for a while - The ordinary staff wasn't very motivated, except for the reception. Cleaning was average, we had to ask them to clean our windows (they were not nice at arrival) a few times, before it was done.

Staff could not be more helpful. Everyone was super friendly. Even made a special request for us to have big cups in the room when I asked if I could take the breakfast ones. Decent size room, nice balcony to sit out on. The terrace for breakfast/drinks has lovely views. For the price point it's excellent. There are hotels with more facilities, but you will pay more for them.

Our air-conditioning was not very effective. It might be a problem in hotter weather.

Good selection at breakfast. Well presented and refreshed as soon as offering ran down. Staff were constantly on hand and were very efficient. This was our fourth stay in recent years. Is the hotel good - yes, is it as good as it was - no. Nothing you could say was bad, nothing you could really point out, it's just the attention to detail does not seem to be what it was.

The hotel used to supply tea pots at breakfast. These have been replaced by the worst tea I have ever tasted as the vending machines do not have boiling water. I asked a staff member for a teapot but was advised that they do not have any. As a tea addict this was very disappointing especially as somewhere in the hotel they must have cupboards full of them! The bathrooms are in need of updating. Yellow tiles are old and a little cracked and stained, mold around the shower door. There had been a problem on the main breakfast deck and 50% of the area was closed off and appeared to be a building site. As this area is the focal viewing point of the hotel, it limited the best outdoor space.

Good place for people who want a peaceful and pleasent stay: Great breakfast with one dish changing everyday; beautiful terrace to eat there. Great isolation, no noise. Silent streets at night. Beautiful ocean view through balconies. Hotel car ride to downtown for the guests. Clean rooms, operative cleaning service. Polite and helpful staff.
