Older hotel, nice garden, good location, breakfast ok but no coffee machine, coffee is served in cans. Capuccino,… are charged extra. Rooms are spacious but old, beds are ok, no walk in shower, bathroom is outdated, rooms need renovation

Great facilities with lots to do, with outside and indoor pools. The buffet food at breakfast and dinner was of good quality and varied. Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. The Italian restaurant was also very good. Staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly, happy to help. For example, a waiter noticed our table was slightly wobbly and took the initiative to fix it. The studio room was large and comfortable and the room and entire hotel were very clean. We had a very relaxing stay and would absolutely choose to stay here again in the future.

We stayed at The Residence hotel, part of the Portobay complex, next to Eden Mar. We were upgraded at check in without being told and it was a nice surprise. The apartment we received was very big, think of a bigger apartment with a “small” hotel room included which had its own bathroom. Everything was very clean and, even though we did not use much of, the kitchenette was equipped with everything necessary for cooking. Beds were comfortable and in good shape even though some of the furniture pieces were showing their age. There were 5 swimming pools available, some indoor (one which allowed for swimming outdoors as well), one of them heated and two were suitable for little children. A gym, indoor and outdoor play areas for kids, as well as a hobby room were all available for free access. A SPA is available, we only went there for a massage that was nice. People are extremely helpful and nice, we really felt really good. On top of everything the included breakfast buffet was very generous, even with sparkling wine available, and one could eat indoors or outdoors on the terrace. We would come back and choose the same hotel without hesitation. Funchal downtown is within walking distance, although maybe this is not an option for everyone a quick taxi ride is also possible. Nevertheless, location is also very good.

Very friendly and helpful staff, great selection of facilities, lovely gardens with different seating options, excellent breakfast, nice pool bar/cafe. Spacious bedroom and very comfortable bed, very good location near to the sea, restaurants and bus stops.

Breakfast was great! We preferred the larger Atlantida breakfast venue for its greater range. Was a bit busy at peak times - OK if you hit it at 7.30 before a day's excursions. The location was well served by buses and there were plenty of local eateries. We used the hotel's Veranda pool bar for lunch on several occasions and ate at the Alfama a la carte restaurant a couple of times. There is a local supermarket and the room contained a kitchenette sufficient to make snacks or a meal. Pools are large and weren't too busy, and we were always able to get sun loungers in our preferred locations.

The main pool was closed for our last two days for cleaning. There was no information to indicate whether this was an unforeseen incident or a planned maintenance.

Awesome location close to supermarket, restaurants and other shops. 10 min walk to the promenade. The hotel itself had excellent facilities and kid friendly. The staff were really friendly and went out of their way to help.

Our room 1201 was above the restaurants so quite noisy for us as we went to bed early with our toddler. Most restaurants closed around 10pm/11pm. There was also a bin collection 3 times in the week at around 11pm/12am, this was very loud (mainly glass being transfers to the bin truck) and woke us up. In all I would say if you’re an early to bed person avoid that side of the hotel.

Four lovely pools (although outdoor ones rather chilly). Nice bar, Porto Mar in particular. Nice breakfast- Eden Mar best as can sit outside. Good location.

Car parking is problematic. Either pay €10 per night or Eden Mar does have free behind hotel but it fills up quick as there aren’t many spots- if you don’t get one it’s free on street overnight or down by Lido (short walk) but need to get up in the morning at 8am and either pay or move into free car park if some have become available. Bit of a pain. Rooms a bit dated but they’re fine, toilet positioned in a weird place so you can’t sit on it properly as it’s right next the sink unit.

The resort is just wonderful, pool, gardens, breathtaking views, perfect food and drinks, very good spa. Amazing authentic combination between luxury and nature ❤️

Everything was perfect

I loved this hotel because it was really quiet. There’s no music around the swimming pool. There’s no exercise classes in the swimming pool. I don’t think there’s any music at breakfast or if there was it was low key. To add to the serenity. they’re lovely gardens and you can sit and read your book in the garden rather than round the pool.

The food was good, but I must admit there wasn’t as much choice as in our previous hotel and the dishes weren’t presented as being very exciting. However, we could always find nice things to eat and the ambience of the hotel made up for the slight lack of choice of food.

After 3 weeks of travelling around the island we felt that now we are on holiday. Great facilities, wonderful staff, loved the breakfast, room was spacious, bed comfy, shower had great pressure so it ticked all the boxes. The room is dark, quiet and cool at night so we slept like babies. We left early on a day trip to Porto Santo and the hotel arranged a lunch pack to take with. Very close to good restaurants and a long promenade for running and walking.

Went for an early run and got back at 08:00. Saw 10 people already placed towels on sun loungers. Enjoyed breakfast until 10:30 and there was even more covered and no people yet. I really feel a hotel should remove towels placed early morning if there are no people. Signs without action does not work.
