Big bedroom with huge bed. Sea view and a nice terrace where one can eat or read calmly. Everything was very clean and well decorated! Nice pool and outside area and the bar downstairs with live music was also a plus. Very good breakfast! Well located - close to a lot of nice restaurants and coffees. Great staff.

The hotel could improve in terms of sustainability by not using single plastic for shampoo/shower gel, not having butter in plastic at breakfast, not changing towels every day, not having single use plastic bottles at the pool. It would be great to have more vegetarian/vegan options at the breakfast (plant based cheese and butter, plant based yoghurt). It should also be possible to book the parking in advance as there was no space available when we arrived and in the next day (we tried to book in advance but it was not possible). I also hated that the hotel had exotic birds at the entrance for one night so people could take pictures... With all the information we have today about how bad it is using animals for amusement, I think this should really be avoided.

The room felt clean, fresh and well presented. The breakfast was good quality and had a little bit of everything. The location was great. The staff were very freindly. And I LOVED how the hotel surprised me with a birthday cake.

The under ground parking should really be included in the price, I think.

Only small things. 1- Water for the room . There should be a complimentary bottle provided by the hotel daily . 2-Having to pay a daily rate for the use of the room safe. Most unfair and a bit mean. 3-No iron provided ! I have never come across this in all my years ! I travel professionally for work over the past 30+ years , staying mostly in 4&5 star hotels. Re: # 1+2 above , these are invariably always provided by the hotels, and should be be here at the Hotel Alto Lido with a 4 Star status.

Our stay at Hotel Alto Lido in Funchal was overall very pleasant. We spent 10 nights there during the Flower Festival and truly enjoyed our time. The room was spacious and comfortable, equipped with a small kitchenette and a small fridge, which was very convenient. The housekeeping was excellent - the room was cleaned daily to a high standard, and the cleaning staff were always friendly and polite. One of the highlights of the hotel was the daily entertainment program, mostly featuring live music performances. It created a lively and enjoyable atmosphere in the evenings and it was clear that the hotel put effort into making sure guests were entertained. Each day, small amenities were delivered to the room - one day fruit, another day a bottle of water and on another occasion, some cookies. These thoughtful touches were appreciated, although we would have preferred to receive a bottle of water every day instead of rotating amenities. We didn’t use the spa facilities, so we’re unable to provide feedback on that area. Despite some minor shortcomings, especially with breakfast, we had a very enjoyable stay and appreciated the cleanliness and entertainment.

Unfortunately, breakfast was a disappointment. It was the same every day - very repetitive and of low quality. There is definitely room for improvement here. We didn’t try lunch or dinner at the hotel, so we can’t comment on that. The hotel is quite large and clearly caters mostly to large touroperator groups. Individual travelers are a minority here, which likely influences the overall experience and the level of personalized service.

Friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is well located: walking distance from the beach and a busy area with lots of dining options, and a quick bus ride to the city centre. Not too noisy. Great breakfast. Everything was clean and functional. The facilities were as shown on pictures.

Just FYI: the free shuttle to the city offered by the hotel only has 2 departures in the morning. The indoor pool, 1 of the restaurants and the sauna facility aren't opened year round/weren't open to the public when I was there (beginning of November)... though you could ask for the indoor pool or sauna facility to be used exceptionally.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful hotel. Breakfast is an important part of our experience, and we were very pleased with the variety and quality offered here. There was a wide selection of delicious options to choose from, and everything was fresh and well-prepared. The hotel's location was also ideal—central and convenient, with many attractions and services nearby. Traveling to other places was easy and accessible. Additionally, the hotel was spotless, and we found the facilities to be excellent. We especially appreciated the wellness center, which we used twice during our stay.

Some points to improve is maybe the wellness time for one round could be higher up to 1 hour. Because 45 minutes is a little short time. The fridge in the hotelroom made in the night some noise. And at the breakfast we missed some pure cacao and fresh orange juice.

Stayed for a week in November. Great hotel very clean and always has entertainment on at night. Breakfast very good, fresh food and always having sections refilled. Pool / sunbathing area very clean, bar is fairly priced with great cocktails. The decor inside is incredible and the rooms are nice and spacious. On another positive note, they cater for different food allergies very well, with separate gluten free stations and food options at the breakfast which is very helpful! They go over and above, for example I left one morning at 4am for a sunrise hike and they packed three lunch bags for me to take for the day when all I asked for was gluten free bread, so the staff care a lot. If I come back to Madeira I would 100% stay here again, it’s just outside Funchal but the 30 minute walk into the main centre is a great walk, plenty of bars / restaurants / cafes along the way to break it up.

The laundry service they offer means you can’t just borrow an Iron to do it yourself.

We had a good one night stay here. They let us check in two hours early as the room was ready. Aside from that, the hotel was very clean, quiet, the beds are very comfy. A lovely view of the sea (we had a side sea room). Nice balcony, would have liked two lounging chairs rather than one. Bathroom fine, some toiletries. Dressing gown and slippers, plus towels for the pool. Easy walking distance into Funchal town, maybe 40 minutes but pretty much all flat. There was a parking garage you need to pay for (no idea if you need to pre book it). We parked in the street behind for free. Some pay and display in front of the hotel too. Overall, would stay here again, thought it was very good value and was quiet!

The inside pool was nice, pretty small (23m maybe). Only downside was the toilets next to the pool smelt strongly of urine so every time you swam to that end of the pool you could smell wee. Outside pool looked nice but it was raining so we couldn't use it. They came to give us complimentary water, wine and cakes but we were asleep. They came into the room anyway despite me saying no, maybe they didn't understand, but that was weird for me. They told me to hang the do not disturb on the door, fair enough, but I did also say no clearly. They could leave it outside the door.

Location was great, spacious bright room, amazing view, good breakfast, helpful staff.

There were some stains on the corridor floor.

Restaurant is very crowded at early breakfast time. Queues to coffee machines. Coffee is bad, we had to take espresso and add water and milk. We had room with no window, just big empty terrace above the parking door. Put some plants on it, and it will be more comfortable. And there was loud noise from the ventilation that goes from parking (we think) straight to the terrace and it wasn’t comfortable to sit there at the evening
