Room was excellent in both view and facilities. Reception were very accommodating and informative on arrival and they were able to give us our room earlier than the normal check-in time. Location of the hotel was likewise perfect for local amenities.

The room maintenance team were a little disappointing for a 5 star hotel! They were spasmodic and often it was very late in the day in wanting to clean the room, often we had returned in mid-afternoon and when they called at 1600'ish we declined the service, as we didn't want the disruption (we always leave our room tidy and made up anyway!). Breakfast itself was a bit odd too with so many mixed vegetable dishes (were they maybe left over from the Buffet the night before?).

The hotel is reasonably well located for town and coastal walks, shopping and many restaurants. We had a hire car, so free secure parking is great. Domestic management is excellent. Room cleaned daily, nice staff, no complaints at all

We have stayed at the Melia at least 4 times. This time it didn’t feel as good as other visits. Breakfast was in my opinion of lower quality as before. Coffee was not good at times. I like mine hot. This was a problem at times. Grout was dirty in our bathroom. Tiles were broken. Kettle was broken. Nothing major, just not a 5 star feel.

Really nice hotel, big comfortable room and very clean! Breakfast option were really nice and had big variety, the same about dinner! Staff was really polite and helpful. Pretty nice gym, well equipped.

In general I would say it’s a very good 4 stars hotel and not 5 stars. Breakfast and dinning room was a bit “cold” and not luxury as you would expect from a 5 star hotel. outdoor tables were not fully available (only during breakfast ). Furniture in the room and in the hotel in general felt a bit old.

I emphasize that the location is perfect and the staff very kind.

Unfortunately, we were not pleasantly surprised. The services were not related to a 5-star hotel. On the monitor in the room we were informed that dinner would start at 6:30 PM, and the restaurant was closed, it opened at 7:00 PM, so we waited at the door, where a line of people had formed. It was unpleasant! The room should be renovated, the towels should be renewed. As an observation, the mattress protection was quite disturbing.

Very calm colours therefore easy to relax

No coffee machine in room and only one bottle of water for whole stay would expect more for a 5 star hotel

Hotel is well located and our room with additional balcony and sun loungers + sea view was excellent. Hotel staff were in general very welcoming and friendly - and catered all of our requests well. Free Parking underneath hotel also a benefit.

I don’t think the food (buffet dinner) is the strongest point of the hotel especially with 5 stars. Some nights were definitely better than others. But to be fair breakfast was good, lots of choice, omelettes, crepes/pancakes. The dining buffet perhaps needed more people/turnover as some main dish’s seemed to be left out for too long. We dined a la carte one night, disappointingly the island specialities we wanted to try (Alheira sausage to start and scabbard fish main) was not available but the alternatives were cooked and presented well. I would recommend this option.

The room was great and Christina upgraded us to a suite, which gave us so much more space and a very large balcony. It was very pleasant to sit there in the evenings and enjoy a glass of wine. Breakfast had endless selections for every kind of food (hot, cold, beverages, etc.). The indoor pool was awesome and the hot tub was a great plus. The only negative was the fact that there is no outdoor hot tub and the outdoor pool is way too cold. The attached free parking garage is a nice feature to have.

The temperature of the outdoor pool. Not heated enough to be enjoyable.

Considering it is a 5 star hotel, it is great value for money and the stay and room was five stars all the way. The service and staff are beyond my expectations. I had just completed my 8 day solo walk around the island and asked if it was possible to have a quieter room away from the road (I booked a lateral sea view room with a balcony, which is also excellent itself). Carla at reception was very helpful and found me another room, an unexpected upgrade, with a larger balcony and direct sea view. I also appreciated her sincere recommendation for dinner, specifically "no touristy restaurants please". I listened and had a seafood platter at PVP - Pão, Vinho e Petiscos, opposite the hotel, and it was the best I have had in a long time! My picnic (on the day I couldn't have breakfast), taxis and room changes were all efficiently organised and carried out. Unfortunately, while I was there, the hotel was undergoing some refurbishment due to damage caused by the bad weather, and I think part of the restaurant overlooking the pool was closed, as was the indoor pool. I imagine it would be an even better experience if these areas were not closed. However, we were given plenty of notice of the refurbishment before we checked in. As a substitute, the hotel did well to liaise with the neighbouring hotel to allow us to use their indoor pool. Overall a great stay and only regret is, I could not extend my stay as the hotel was fully booked on my last night in Funchal.

Beautiful property, delicious buffet, great walkable location with nearby restaurants and shops. The front desk staff were extremely helpful and checked us in early with an extra discount. Has indoor and outdoor pools, several bars, a spa and was an overall great value with a large room and balcony. I highly recommend staying here!

Have to go downstairs to lobby to request pool towel. However, bathrobes were included with slippers so no need to get towels.
